Better program that we are until we play them again.

Not sure why our fans are trashing a school that just whipped our ass.

Well lets see....
1. Tradition - they suck, we routinely kick their ass, like everyone else. They win ONE game, last year- when they have their best team since 1925 and we arguably have our worst in the last 40 years- and now they're a better program? And I'm supposed to cede that ground and put up with it? Hell no!

2. Head to head- we've beaten them 28 of the last 30 and 55 of the last 62 .... And they're a better program? And I gotta deal with it? Don't think so

3. They got an unbelievably classless arrogant childish prick as a head coach.... He alone is enough to put the UT battle flag in the ground and never, ever give that jack arse any credit, any respect for anything....

I am sure it is Vandymania. I opened an account to have a little fun and was banned after 1 post, and it wasn't bad at all.

Candy fans can't take a little Troll? I mean we have 99Gator on here somewhere. lol. We are at least good sports about Trolls.

Really cause I thought Sewanee before them.

I think ETSU Has a Richer History in Football than Vandy.

I know you probably don't need a Gator fan weighing in on this, but, according to this Chris Low article - Vandy Now Looks the Part - it looks like Vandy may be finally laying a real foundation that will enable them to be a more consistent force in the SEC.

Apparently, this will be the first year that they've ever had an offensive line weighing over 300 lbs across the board and will be 4 deep at Defensive Tackle. They also have developed a fully integrated training table and are using supplements to promote strength and growth.

Don't be surprised if Franklin tries to sell Hurd on the idea of getting an Ivy League caliber education while still being able to run behind a 300 pound line and become a feature back in the SEC.

I think we might be witnessing Vandy emerge as the Stanford of the South. It sounds crazy, but we might be watching them play in a Sugar Bowl soon.

Nah, more like the Northwestern of the South. Have a good year every 20 then fade back into obscurity. Stanford actually has some tradition post WW2.

Vandy had a historic year... against a weak schedule. Four of their 5 SEC wins came against programs that finished with a losing record. Three of those 4 now have new coaches. Their other wins came against Presbyterian (an FCS program that converted from DII about 5 years ago and finished 2-9 this year), UMass (recently moved up to MAC from FCS and finished 1-11), WFU (5-7), and NCSU (beaten badly by UT, finished 7-6, fired coach).

IOW's, against a schedule that included the norm for Ole Miss, UT, Auburn, and maybe even Missou... the 'Dores of '12 are just another 5-7 or 6-6 football team.

They were beneficiaries particularly of UT and Auburn being bad... not of them being just a whole lot better.

lol...No punch line.

Seriously, when USC was making their run under Carroll, would anyone have ever thought Stanford would beat them at the Coliseum? Or that in just a few years, Stanford would take control of the conference and play in Orange and Fiesta Bowls?

Let's also not forget that Vandy is the only team in the SEC that can offer recruits a true big city college environment. They have the NFL and NHL in their city. Franklin might tell certain recruits that the city of Nashville could promote their individual brand and accomplishments better than small towns like Gainesville, Athens, Auburn, etc., because it's a bigger stage.

I've also heard that Franklin is selling the fact that they've got a legitimate, international airport as part of his campaign to recruit nationally. His argument is that a kid from California could come to Vandy and know that his family could easily get a flight into the city anytime if they needed to, whereas with Gainesville you'd have to fly to Jacksonville or Orlando and then either drive or connect on a much smaller airplane.

Ok, Chas, stop it. No offense to Chris, I generally do like him but he's said some pretty stupid things. This seems to be one of them. I'll give you an example.

Here in Nashville they have a Nashville athlete of the year kind of award. This years nominees were particularly impressive-

1. Brandt Snedeker (#4 golfer in the world, Won FedEx cup, Played in Ryder Cup etc);
2. David Price (won the AL CY Young, all star game pitcher, etc);
3. Brian Baker (professional tennis player, came back from career threatening injuries to play extremely well in some of the majors, great story);
4. RA Dickey (incredible life story/comeback from being virtually out of the league to being an Allstar pitcher by completely changing how he pitched - taught himself knuckleball and won the NL CY Young); and finally
5. James "d:ckhead" Franklin (who won 9 games at Pansybilt by beating exactly 1 winning team)

Our boy Chris Low, who comes on 104.5 the Zone weekly, was asked who he would select and he said.... You guessed it..... With absolutely no hesitation or trepidation .... Noted d:ckhead James Franklin. He went on for awhile trying to make the case. The hosts, Brent Daughtery, Blaine Bishop and yes, Clay Travis didnt buy it and seemed to think franklin had no case, but Chris was all in. Of course RA Dickey won the award and I think Franklin, accordingly, came in last

So, you might keep that in mind when Low starts singing the Pansybilt praises again. I for one ain't buying it.

Edit: also, you must not have heard. Snakehead's pitch to Hurd about an "ivy league education" and all that jazz didn't work, kinda fell on deaf ears. Jalen committed to UT yesterday. It was in the news

Vandy and Stanford aren't comparable from academic reputation to football tradition. Stanford is one of the best univserities in the world. Vanderbilt is a top notch academic school, but not even in the same conversation. Stanford football: Jim Plunkett, John Elway, Pop Warner, 1 Heisman trophy, 2 claimed national championships. Vanderbilt football: uhhh.. Jay Cutler?

If anything, Vandy is more similar to USC (private school, solid academics, big city). As we all know few schools can even compare to USC's football tradition, least of all Vanderbilt. Selling a big city is a plus and a negative. Go to LA or Nashville and you're in a big city, but you're also a small fish in a big pond. At least USC isn't competing with an NFL team for fans, they are the de facto local team... when they're good. Nobody gives a sh** about Vandy, except for their few local fans and the local sportscasters whose employment requires them to talk about Vanderbilt. Their novelty is what's put them in the national conversation. "Oh look, those nerds have a decent team this year."

Let's not pretend that Vandy is something that they're not. Good for Vanderbilt that they were able to take advantage of UT being garbage the last few years. It's going to end and it's going to end soon. Football is cyclical and the traditional powers go through rough patches. We've endured ours and now it's time to show the world that UT is back.

I think you make some good points about differentiating Stanford and Vandy. It looks like Stanford had a richer history to build upon. It's also easier to rise from the bottom in the Pac 12 than the SEC.

I just think Franklin is trying to build a program that will last a while, which is different for Vandy. He seems to understand that the SEC is a line of scrimmage league and has taken steps to build a foundation up front. What will it be like playing a Vandy team that is 300 lbs across the board on the line and 4 deep at DT? Or a Vandy team that is now eating a gram of protein per pound of body weight and using creatine?

I was 7 at the time. Ill be 38 this year and have only known of Tennessee coming up short to Candy 2 times. The streak had to end at sometime, Im glad it did while we had a really bad D and the loss wouldnt have knocked us out of a SECCG or a bowl game. GBO.

You should make more distinction between the terms "program", "team" and "game".

Edit: I thought I'd help clarify.

There is no comparison between our programs.

The team that beat UT last year is no longer at Vandy, nor is the team that lost to Vandy last year.

A game is a contest in which, due to varying reasons, an inferior team could beat a superior team.

Anytime Vandy puts good(for them)seasons together,it's because Tennessee was down.
