Doug Matthews On Tennessee Vols 2015 Recruiting Class

Besides, as close as he actually is it makes sense that he would say they are only his opinion. He can't give away too much real information like it came straight from CBJ's mouth, even if it did.

We need BEEF from where I sit...big, strong, and mean DEFENSIVE LINEMEN. I am hoping for McKenzie, Settle and Tuttle to come in as the one-ton commit. I would take them any day over just about anyone else we are chasing. And odd that this guy doesn't even mention them.

Yea and you and a few more are steadily sinking in it. Mathews himself said he didn't get this from anybody in the program and doesn't really follow recruiting. So that makes him know more than those who whole job is recruiting and have inside info that say we are after Gibson? Ok sure.

I am pretty sure he was spot on about the numbers issue in the 2014 class. He is trying to come off as not having a source. But when you provide that in depth kind of information, you are clearly getting it from someone. Not that hard to figure out.

I know, right? He doesn't really follow recruiting but somehow has in depth knowledge of CBJ's recruiting "depth chart"?

He says it in the podcast right when the Gibson talk starts at 44 minutes. He didn't say he knew what the chart was, only that he knows how it is set up. If people actually listen instead of reading biased summaries they would understand what was said. So he lied about not following recruiting much?

Ah, now you are getting close to the source of DM's information. Listen to his message in the podcast and understand that he is connected to the very top at UT.

You really think he "doesn't follow recruiting"? When, he has been making comments like this every year for as long as I can remember? You could also be fed information about specific recruits without actually "following" them.

Give it up dude, what does Matthews have to gain or lose by giving his opinion about recruiting based upon reliable information or, at the very least, information from sources for which he feels are reliable?

Matthews may not be right here but I trust his comments and opinions have more validity and reliability behind them than anyone on this board. Whether he follows recruiting is inconsequential, his information comes from someone with direct knowledge of UT's recruiting...you can choose not to believe his info is accurate but, explain how any of it is biased? Against who, Gibson? I'd love to hear that...

Him saying he has got to know Welton doesn't mean they are bffs and he has a bunch of insider info. He is not a recruiting expert. I guess you haven't learned about making up things people said. You and leb posted so much fake bs about what Ryan Callahan said he had to come on the radio and say people are lying about what he said. Now Mathews (one w) says he didn't get his info from anybody in the program and he is guessing and could be wrong about Gibson. You are doing him like yall did Callahan and swearing that you have to read between the lines instead of listening to what they actually said.

He straight up said he DID NOT get this from anyone inside the program. He admits he is basing it on the fact that he heard they told JJ he would be the only dt qb. So maybe I would listen if he got the info from someone and it wasn't just his opinion. Especially when he says he doesn't follow recruiting closely. Why are people ignoring what came out his mouth?

So he doesn't have anything to gain or lose. He made a guess and is sticking to it. That is all. He didn't get this from inside info.

Man, the TG supporters will have to start a support group after he doesn't come to UT.
I DO believe that Bruce will be a part of this team. He is not listed as a slot or rb by this staff. He is listed as a baller. :) CBJ will find a place to use him even if only a special teams guy.

Did you expect him to say on air he got all his info directly from CBJ, BW, or another UT coach? Seriously?

He didn't hear it from someone inside the program but he heard what they told JJ? Where did he hear that then?

I hope Bruce sticks. IMO he needs to be a Vol.

Agreed. I love his film. And I'm not knocking Jocquez at all when I say this, but I could see him being a special teams all-star. You need fresh athletes for kick off, kick return, punt, and punt return. I wouldn't be surprised to see him getting significant playing time in 3 years on offense.

Everyone is basing it on his past history. That goes much further than what he says about it being his opinion. He clearly knows people who have the info. He has been doing it for a long time.

He didn't hear it from someone inside the program but he heard what they told JJ? Where did he hear that then?

He lives near JJ and has been to a bunch of games. I'm sure he could have heard it from a local coach or family friend of the Jennings. That doesn't mean he heard it from someone in the Vol program. He says the whole thing today was not based on things he heard from people on the Hill. Why would he lie? He didn't have to state it wasn't from someone on the Hill if it was. He could have just said what he heard and not claimed any source if he was protecting some top secret insider info.

Thanks OP thats a nice summary.

I almost made a similar post yesterday but didn't want to get into a numbers discussion or speculate on who would be cut loose. But it looks like Mathews sees things playing out about like I do, except for the Atkinson kid, who I haven't followed at all.

Of the 5 definite takes, I think 4 will be Vols, but still see McGraw as long shot at this point. But they will take 4 total DBs, IMO.

I have assumed Jackson is OL all along, so Richmond will get the last spot there.

Never thought Gibson would be in this class and still don't.

I do think theres an outside chance of an additional player not mentioned by Mathews getting a spot, depending on how things shake out. Guys like Simmons, Jones, Tuttle, Love come to mind. And of course Sweat, if we could get him.

It won't be a top 5 class, but it will mix well with the 2014 class to continue the foundation we need. And I love the ST additions.
