Ducking the Ducks

Games are not played on paper. I'm sure the coaches will have a great game plan. I've never seen a gameplan designed to fail. CBJ enthusiam and winning attitude is the X-factor IMO. If we come out motivated, and jump ahead early the game will be competitive and its possible we pull the upset. If we come out flat, it will be a bloodbath. Based on the energy Ive seen from the coaching staff, we will be one hell of a motivated team.

8-9 in the box is good. Lets play some old school smash mouth football. If they come to play that kind of game, we will definitely win.

We are not Bama. We won't have success running into a 9 man box. Our Oline is good but our undersized RBs couldn't handle it.

Whoever our QB is, he will have to spread the field and air it out atleast a little bit

I have to believe that a ball control game plan is in the works, as there is no way Butch tries to out-tempo the Ducks or put it in the hands of his QB. Of course, they know that and will stack the box. Our offensive line is better than any the Ducks will see the rest of the year, but we need good perimeter blocking from unproven WRs and no fumbles from the RBs (I'm talking to you Neal). Sooner or later though, with 8-9 in the box, the passing game will have to come through to beat the spread. Sorry, I see no chance of a W here, but hoping to beat spread.

i started to give you a like, till i seen the no chance to win :) i all ways believe they will win every game, even if i wouldn't place any cash on the game lol

Marlin Lane is listed at 205 and Raijon Neal is listed at 212 atm. Add in Alden Hill at 215 and i think we have something here. I think Butch rotates backs in this game and it's gonna provide good results imo. Im just looking at the bright side of things and im not gonna write this UT team off.

Why? We've got an experienced run game with an awesome OL and we also have plenty of experience and weight anchoring the DL. Why cant we pull the upset?

We have no run game...We bring back a lot of players from the run game but check the stats the past 3 years....We can not go into autzen with an inexperienced QB and WR's...They will eat them up...Our defense is still the same squad who got manhandled all season long...they are switching it back to a 4-3 but they are the same players who got burned all season long...Improved maybe, hopefully but not good enough to hang with a team that's loaded like Oregon...You can live in a fantasy world all you want but I will bet the farm We come out of that game with a loss...Maybe even a brutal loss....Butch will turn them around but its not going to be this year....You have to be realistic...Hell I hope they win em all...I just don't see it happening....By the way UT was 8th in rushing in the SEC last season with only 18 td's

Fantasy world? Look what happened in 09. Everybody wrote us off for pretty much every big SEC game after Fulmer left us a mess. We destroyed Georgia, South Carolina, hung with Florida and took it to the wire with Bama. Point being, all it takes is a great motivator and of course talent. We've got talent and I believe we've got a great motivator. I can't write this team off and I'm definitely taking the spread, especially at 27.

That's exactly how you beat teams like Oregon. Control the clock by running the ball and keep their offense off the field as much as possible. We did in during the 1st half of the 2010 game. The offense line and running backs are better now.

Correct, TOP will be critical in that game.

A potential advantage for UT is that nobody knows what offense we'll run: west coast, read option, other, all 3. We would miss Bray, CP and Hunter more if we were going to run the same Offense this year.

If Butch can mix it up and get the D looking around, he counters with the Oline's 4 Srs and 1 Jr.

UT has more talent and more experience than in 2010, and BJones appears to be a better game-time HC than CDD.

Dooley beat LSU in BR (but for a bone-headed play that didn't affect the last play of the game but which resulted in an LSU win).

UT is primed for an upset somewhere.

Ridiculous....rain delays affect both teams, not just one.

This.

Plus we had the worst HC in UT history. The outcome would have been the same; blaming the rain delay is just revisionist excuses to make yourself feel better about the beatdown we received. Dooley was tied with Alabama at the half too and the same thing happened.

The importance of this game is gonna come up front on the O-Line, and on the defensive side, we must contain their speed. Talent wise, we're actually pretty identicle with Oregon. Our O-Line should be able to create the gaps to run through, and I'm hoping Lane/Neal/Hill or whoever will have a field day! I also expect some trickery on offense in this game. Jones is known for breaking out a little trickeration in big games. I'm looking forward to this match up. I also think we split between Florida and Georgia. Florida has lost a lot of their core linemen on defense, and that was their strongest suit last year. Their offense will be lackluster once again IMO. Wasn't impressed with the QB play of Driskel or their offense in general for that matter. They were very inconsistent overall. I think we can surprise them this year if we come out swinging in the beginning. I just hope Worley or whichever QB emerges as our starter, will continue to improve and lead this team. We need a guy that manage a game properly while under center. Bray lacked that quality all together. That's why I honestly feel like this team is better off without Bray. I think Worley starts, and will be very solid for us this year.

Oregon will score at will with their fast paced offense and speed backs (given our depth in LB / quality DB).

UT Offense needs to keep up with the scoring to have a chance. Playing in Eugene doesn't help either.

If we win this, it will be 'cause of Coach Jones In-game coaching!

There's no doubt our offense will be able to score on them (btw, great to hear Worley is practicing on his own with the WR's). Question is: will it be enough? This takes us to the real issue --> our Defense against their Offense.

We are absolutely loaded with good experienced LB talent and will be able to substitute regularly (2014 will be another issue). My biggest concern is our DT's. They're huge but will they be able to maintain the pace against a no-huddle offense like Oregon's. I hope McCullers, Couch, et al. are getting ready by running the Neyland bleachers in the hot Knoxville sun this summer because there will be NO TIME to waddle off the field for substitutions. We have some talent with our DB's but any and all weaknesses will be exposed by the "Black Mamba" and friends.

Thus, I see the pressure put on the QB by our DE's and LB's as being the key to this game. Our DB's are going to need all the help they can get. The 2nd key, as already mentioned, will be ST's.:good!:

We might give up a couple big plays in this game, but we will wear down their D in this game when our O takes the field. We're gonna run and run some more. Going back to the defense, it just can't get any worse and I think we get a good bit of pressure on their QB throughout the game. If Oregon wins, I see no more than a 10 point victory, but I'm not gonna be surprised if UT pulls the upset.

Oregon 38, Tenn 17. We score 7 in first half and get 10 scrub points against their 2nd string D in 2nd half.

Against Florida, we need probably just one thing and one thing only. The referees need to call the plays where UF CBs and DBs grab and hold onto the jerseys of our WRs.

If this board had been around in 1985 you guys would have said the same thing about the UT-Auburn game, yet we all know how that turned out.

We finished 6th is total yards and 4th in YPA.

Nice try. According to espn stats from 2012, we finished with 160 rushing yds per game, good for 8th in the SEC. Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, LSU, Florida, UGA, A&M, and Bama all finished with more rushing yards per game.
