Ducking the Ducks

Oregon struggles when they face a team with a good defenseive line AND good linebackers. This is why they have so much trouble with Stanford, and that is why they lost to Auburn in the National Championship. While are defensive line is looking like a strength I do not think they are particularly fast enough to hang with Oregon's spread no huddle, and our linebackers do not seem that quick either. With that being said I am excited for the game because I finally get to see what Butch Jones can do.

They struggle with defenses who penetrate and maintain their responsibilities. It disrupts the read option by limiting the qb's ability to hand off, pitch, keep, or pass. Everyone has to do their job.

i have posted a million times, while i wouldnt put any money on it, the oregon game may be the best chance to pull an upset.
they no longer have Chip Kelly, we no longer have DD, I think this is big because he also called plays for Oregon
We outsize them on DL and OL, if UT can run the ball wind that clock down and the DLINE get a few 3 and outs would set up nicely. In the first game Tauren Poole was having a nice game till that storm blew through and oregon made adjustments
Over confidence - you gotta hope Oregon looks at this game like its gonna be a blowout and hopefully UT can catch them off guard

Good point. I looked at some Oregon forums and I saw almost no mention of the UT game. The Duck fans are all worried about in conference games. You have to hope they're overlooking the UT game and come in not expecting much.

We have no chance to stop them unless this new coach they have doesn't have a clue on how to run that offense. People continue to underestimate this football team and I have no idea why. They are arguably the 2nd best football program in the country right now. Our WRs have little chance against their corners. We may be able to run the ball but that is the only matchup we will win. Sorry for the reality check.

"This new coach," has been their offensive coordinator for the past few years. I'd say he has a pretty good clue how to run that offense.

Looking over our roster in the biggest losers and gainers weight wise, I got a notion. I decided to peek into the Oregon site to look at their roster. I know they recruit for speed so maybe no surprise their DL is not SEC sized.

In any case, I'm encouraged that our OL may indeed be able to push them out of the way for our RB to gorge out big chunks of yardage. Once again, if our big WRs can produce against the comparatively smaller Duck CBs and DBs, we could actually win this game. Now, what I think is the bad news. They seem to have some rather big TEs. This could give us trouble, serious trouble. Their OL seems to match up pretty even with our DL so given our guys always were 4-3 guys forced to play 3-4 last year, we may be rather disruptive to their offense.

Size isn't everything, I well know. But I am surprised at how well we match up with them. So much so, I think if we can even decently contain their speed, we will walk out of their stadium as winners.

Perhaps the best athlete on the Ducks squad this year, Colt Lyerla, Jr TE, 6'5" 246 should have a break out year for the Ducks. It's a lot of fun to see him when they use him at RB.

This guy very well could be a top 5 or 10 pick in next years NFL draft. He was All State as both a Running back and linebacker, played linebacker in the Army All American game.

If as rumored the Ducks are passing more this year, I'd look for Colt to put up some very big numbers as a receiver.

would love something similar to the 1989 UCLA outcome (the Tennessee Waltz in the Rose Bowl).

Ok. Whatever you say. Not letting that go. Watch the game and get back to me. They were manhandles badly. They stayed in their gaps and punished them.

As a Duck, I'd say Stanford definitely "handled" Oregon's running game in that 17-14 overtime loss. And perhaps that's why Oregon has apparently improved it's kicker (missed OT field goal attempt) and rumor has it opened up more passing in the offense (putting pressure on defense to not cheat to defend the run so much).

We don't know if those two parts of the Oregon game have been successfully fixed yet, but it appears the Oregon staff is working on them.

I watched it just fine live. Stanford was great, but "manhandled" is pushing it.

This same exact argument was made when we played them at home.

Stone, James, and Fulton were true freshman playing in that game, Richardson was in HS, and Bullard was at ND.

We also had Joe Ayres and Vic Thomas at DT.

We are not a good team, but our OL and interior DL are 10x better than in 2010. Unfortunately, I think UO is better too.

I have no doubt that we will be much improved but the odds just simply aren't in our favor - the amount of home run threats on the Quack Attack is staggering.

I think Stanford wins the Pac 10 and goes to a BCS Bowl while Oregon plays Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

Wouldnt go that far. Our WR's could and should have success against their corners. Our problem is gonna be being able to stay with them 60 minutes. Although we should be better conditioned and a little better depth than last time but who knows with Kelly gone and sanctions coming soon. Not saying we beat them because I highly doubt we can but Stanford and AU has shown how to slow down and stop them, just gotta have the players to do it.

Obviously, I hope you're wrong. I have a lot of respect for what they are doing at Stanford. Plenty of other games to take care of BEFORE Stanford.......... Including you guys.

Virginia on the road, always need to take care of business on long road trips.
Tenn. - plenty of talent, new coach, something to prove, SEC pride. Will need to have serious game face on for this one.
Cal - as bad as they've been, this is a team that seems to ALWAYS play the Ducks tough. Can't let down after the Tenn game or we'll get wacked.
Colorado - should be a week to get more playing time for the back ups.
Washington - talented rival. Will be very tough at Washington, no love loss here.
WSU - with Leach throwing the kitchen sink at everyone, never know what they will do.
UCLA & at Stanford - two very very tough games.
Utah & at Zona, should handle them still they will be looking to upset the Ducks
OSU - Good chance they will be undefeated coming into the Civil War, given that they have USC and Stanford at home. So they may be playng for a very big BCS bowl come game time.

Yep, I look for OSU to be at least tied for first place at the end of the season.

Does it look like the NCAA is going to nail Oregon for NCAA violations? How does it look as of now?
