Ducking the Ducks

As a Duck, I'd say Stanford definitely "handled" Oregon's running game in that 17-14 overtime loss. And perhaps that's why Oregon has apparently improved it's kicker (missed OT field goal attempt) and rumor has it opened up more passing in the offense (putting pressure on defense to not cheat to defend the run so much).

We don't know if those two parts of the Oregon game have been successfully fixed yet, but it appears the Oregon staff is working on them.

I hope you are right, I really do. The more you guys tweak and change a system that Kelly had clicking along, the better our chances are especially early in the season.

i wonder what many of you would think about, say, georgia or florida's chances to win at oregon.

south carolina too

I think the Gators would beat the Ducks straight up....

I think USCe & UGA might beat them in close games...

All three you mention have much better chances (team speed and depth) than my VOLS.....:salute:

Does it look like the NCAA is going to nail Oregon for NCAA violations? How does it look as of now?

I'm not sure what's going to happen. I suspect the problem the NCAA is having with this particular issue has NOTHING to do with the Ducks and EVERYTHING to do with setting precedent for enforcement going forward. I think that's why it's taking so long, obviously, I'm just guessing. We just have to wait and see what they do and live with it.

The Ducks just have to do everything right from yesterday to every day in the future and we'll be alright. We've got a great start on building a program, obviously plenty to improve and prove going forward.

Their skill players will run like Usain Bolt across the middle of the field against our slow LBs and will pick up big chunks of yardage. And their up tempo, no huddle offense will gas our D bigtime, forcing us to go into our 2 deep. With the horrid depth we have on that side of the ball, and an offense that could barely pick up a first down in the O and W game, it will be a bloodbath I'm afraid.

Horrid depth Fade? What horrid depth? Have you not read on here about the incredibly talented and deep roster Dooley left the new staff?

Wouldnt go that far. Our WR's could and should have success against their corners. Our problem is gonna be being able to stay with them 60 minutes. Although we should be better conditioned and a little better depth than last time but who knows with Kelly gone and sanctions coming soon. Not saying we beat them because I highly doubt we can but Stanford and AU has shown how to slow down and stop them, just gotta have the players to do it.

They have arguably the best corner and group of corners in the country. Again, playing with them for a half is no accomplishment, playing with them for 4 quarters is impossible unless you have a legit BCS bowl team. They will explode and blow us out, the only question is whether it will come in the 1st or 2nd half

I think it comes down to the "D" stopping the big plays (that was one, if not biggest factor for our defense last year), QB play, and the running game + clock management.

My concern is the QB play. We have so many questions about that. Lets hope whoever starts the AP game the week before hits his form.

Too bad Tennessee couldn't have dumped Oregon for someone else like say.... Tulsa:eek:lol:

Anything is possible, I hope we are in some good shape because this is a game where we will need it, it's gonna be a fast paced game, if we have some play makers step up by that game then I say Buckle up Oregon your in for a ride.

I hope Worley or whoever knows how to hand the ball off. Theyll be doing a lot of it this year.

Im suprised no one has mentioned that this game is a very early 12:30pm kick off on the west coast. This is a big deal. They like to play thier games at night with thier crowd rocking. The crowd will already expect a blow out and will be very quiet if TN keeps it close early. Due to that early kick off if TN stays in the game early they can effectively negate much of the crowd advantage.

So our boys will feel like its 3:30 then. Time change gonna mess with them some I think.

I think Stanford wins the Pac 10 and goes to a BCS Bowl while Oregon plays Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

...the conference winner would go to the rose bowl in that situation, unless you're saying that Stanford would be playing in the national championship

We might be the best team on their schedule. UCLA Stanford and Cal as their only competition. Wow

...why would Tennessee be better than this year's Stanford, in your opinion?

(They also (if they win their division) have to play the best team from the other half of their conference)

LOL. obviously you're not familiar with Autzen and the Oregon crowd. Oregon plays most big games in the 12:30 pm slot to meet national TV requirements and get east coast viewers. Trust me, Oregon fans will be ready to rock the place at 12:30. If Oregon stays true to form, the Autzen parking lot will open around 3 am for this game. That gets the line of RVs off the streets and into the parking lot. Wise to get there by 10 am.

If size/strength was everything, I'd be playing in the NFL. Oregon's team, simply put, is much better than ours. We are going to have to have some 1998 Arkansas luck to pull out the W in Autzen. Not saying its impossible, but anyone thinking "man I bet we upset them" better check their expectations at the door before watching this game.

If this board had been around in 1985 you guys would have said the same thing about the UT-Auburn game, yet we all know how that turned out.

You mean that 8-4 Auburn team that was the most overrated team in history ranked #1? :ermm: But the celebration was fun right?

Funny. That is the same angle broke people take..
"Money is not everything"
"Money can't buy you happiness"

What are people really saying when thay say
"Size isn't everything"

but it can buy you a wave runner ... have you ever seen a sad person on a wave runner. Try to frown on a wave runner, you cant.

We have no chance to stop them unless this new coach they have doesn't have a clue on how to run that offense. People continue to underestimate this football team and I have no idea why. They are arguably the 2nd best football program in the country right now. Our WRs have little chance against their corners. We may be able to run the ball but that is the only matchup we will win. Sorry for the reality check.

Maybe we should just concede all of the games in which we "don't have a chance" and then go from there....Nothing like pessimism!!!!!

All I'm saying is they got man handled. Look it happens and to be honest it shocked me that Stanfords defense was able to play that disciplined and not stray. That was a good template for how to stop those offenses. If you noticed however not too many teams are able to follow Stanfords model. Can TN do it? Depends on the discipline of the Dline we have this year. People are writing off our defense based on the sal sunseri experiment. I think they step their game up this year as I sit on the couch. P.S. Defending to cheat the run sounds like manhandled to me.

I didn't see Stanford the first time I looked.

I would consider Stanford better than UT
