Duke Crews and Ramar Smith Dismissed

I agree. His short time at SC proved he's not a point. For God's sake, Daniel Hackett was ahead of him at the position despite the fact he was still supposed to be in high school. Galloway can be a huge help against pressure defenses because he can handle and advance the ball against most 3s. However, he's a disaster waiting to happen as a primary ballhandler.

I'm not sure if he'd be "waiting" to be a disaster....he's more likely to jump right into being a disaster.

But yeah, good handle/skills for a wing....not so much as a PG.

That doesn't surprise me....

You see....certain players have certain skill sets that are more suited for certain styles of play.

I'll let that soak in and continue if needed....
:eek:k:

So the concept of a versatile basketball player these days is out of the question? Does this knowledge coincide with your necessity of contacts in the judicial system? I have a lot more arguments to pose against your simpleton theories but I'm tired and have a lot to do tomorrow. Maybe you can finish researching the questions asked so far and we can continue then.

Dude, you really think you know something, which is amusing....

Of course there is such a thing as a versatile basketball player...however, Galloway isn't one of em. I suppose if you knew anything about hoops, or would recognize Kevin Galloway if you walked in on him naked in your shower, you'd know that Galloway suits a certain style of play. He is long and athletic and has enough skill to match up against 3's in the SEC, but he doesn't have the ball skills or mentality to run sets for UK....Memphis runs a totally different system that flourishes on athleticism and creativity. Galloway could play in that mold at the PG spot MUCH better than in UK's system.

Class dismissed....try to do better next time....or better yet...get off my jock. I've found a few posters who enjoy discussing bball and seem to actually know what they are talking about. We are talking hoops, so please let the adults talk....when we start discussing how to ring up a supersize order, we'll give you a call.

the only thing good to come out of this is the Freshmen get to play more and Scotty Hopson will get to wear #32.

Good point. I hadn't thought about #32. He'll be the third player to wear it in a four-season span.

Arizona, Chris may have smoked before, but I do not believe he does it very often if at all now. mm you were right congrads...please give your address to GAVol and he will have a cookie, medal, or another type of award sent to you in the next few days :).. Even though this is a big loss, we should still be okay with this upcoming talent. Finally, If you smoke weed and get caught they should have been dismissed. I mean it is illegal. By the way, how many days till football?

I don't know where it's been confirmed it was weed......

Marc: Why did you have info about Ramar's dismissal, but nothing about Crews?

Also, if it wasn't weed and wasn't UT testing, then what/who was it? NCAA? Coke?

On topic, which do you think is the bigger loss, Chism or Smith? From my perspective, its got to be Chism.

We don't lose Chism. We lose Crews.

And Ramar Smith is by far the bigger loss for this team IMO.

I don't know about him being a far bigger loss. Neither could be described as anything better than average. And had Duke been healthy last season he may have had a bigger contribution to the team's overall success. Ramar was demoted in the NCAA tournament in favor of JP. That in itself is really embarassing.

Both will fall into obscurity from now on though.

I tend to disagree. I think that Ramar has proven that he can be something special - though there was absolutely no consistency to it, which it takes to be great. We could have continued to use Ramar's depth at point - even if he wasn't a true PG, IMO.

Duke's intensity was something I always loved about watching him play. I guess, technically, he is less of a loss than Ramar from the standpoint of playing time. I'm not sure how things would have shaped up next year....does anyone have a feel for that. Duke is the bigger loss to me just because I enjoyed watching him play so much...but overall I would have to say Ramar is the bigger loss to the team.

the lack of sign offs by VN faithful in this thread is bothersome. if you're going to be in a thread with the guy who "knows more HS basketball players than anyone in history", then sign off appropriately.

Duke was Bruce's first big committment. I hoped for big things from Duke because I always enjoyed the intensity that he played with. His physicality was key for a frontcourt that seemed soft more often than not.

UT certainly loses valuable depth and a proven performer in the front court.

What does this mean for Jurick's role on the 08-09 Tennessee team?

in two limited seasons, Duke still missed more dunks than anyone in Vol history. I'm a fan of his, mind you, but it even became predictable.

I think Duke will take that developing jump hook and make a helluva player for someone, though he's never going to outthink anyone.

Ramar will move back to the 2 for someone and keep going to the hole. He may never again see a defender within 6 feet of him on the perimeter.

Wish them both the best.

And, as for Ramar, it's another big loss for the team and another sad, premature ending for a promising Volunteer in Knoxville.

Ramar's ability to penetrate the lane and finish/draw contact was what set him apart from other point guards in the league as a freshman. He didn't seem to be the same player last year. As a sophomore, he seemed indecisive and out of control as a point in the Vol offense.

His athleticism was undeniable though. In flashes, he looked like the best NBA prospect on the court for UT...

Again, it's sad to see this kid fall in line with the likes of Lamarcus Coker, James Banks, Brent Schaeffer, yadda yadda yadda.

I wish him well and hope this lesson helps him get his priorities in order.

I believe we're down to Chism, Williams, and Jurick in the front court, unless we're getting another recruit that I'm not aware of. The fact that Williams and Jurick might be getting some big playing time kinda scares me. We might even see Tyler Smith play an even bigger role in the post, which I really don't like because we need his versatility.
