Duke/UNC Official Thread 2021/2022 (K’s Last Hurrah Edition)

Wow. A lot of anger in your own post. I say this as a UNC fan: the amount of BS that has gone on at both ends of 15/501 over the years would probably curl all of our toes. Dont pretend K hasn’t been in the middle of it on Dooks end.
Every school cheats. Every single one. Three days after they get caught? Cheating again. That’s life

Pretty sure Coach K’s white pullover had the Duke Brotherhood crest on it, not the K like current players, former players and staff were wearing.
He was wearing the brotherhood crest. Details are hard. He quit wearing the coat and tie a couple years ago when almost everyone else did too

No need to be a p*&$k about it. I’ll look at a game photo more closely. As for what K wears, I try not to watch Dook games unless I have to, and so my image of him is still as a coach who wears a coat and tie. Actually one of the few things I respect (or respected I guess) about him.

You lost respect of someone over the use of an unnecessary coat and tie? Feel the same towards Barnes?

It was plain to see for anyone bothering to pay attention.

Wow. A lot of ad hominem attacks in here tonight. I actually ran a 10K today during the game and only saw highlights. I unfortunately committed to the race a while back and didn’t feel I could back out. So, what I saw were a lot of white K pullovers and K wearing the same thing.

Pardon the &$#@ out of me.

Feel free to consider this another ad hominem attack, but maybe do your hw before calling someone pretentious

Yeah I could have sworn Coach K was attacked for allegedly wearing a pullover with his name on it…someone here accused him of being pretentious if memory serves. 😂

I know you’re not directing it to me but I initially brought up the pullover thing. Not necessarily that K was wearing it himself but that it was on the bench being worn period. The hoopla before and after the game was indicative that the focus wasn’t going to be on the team and/or game itself and it showed.

Oh I don’t disagree with you one bit. I remember FSU naming their field after Bobby Bowden when we came to town in 2004. They knew he was retiring at season’s end, and could have done the field dedication at any of the previous home games. But we hadn’t won there since 1986, Ron Zook was a lame duck coach and they fully expected to win. We wound up ruining their party like UNC did tonight.

I just find it absurd that someone accused Coach K of being pretentious over something he didn’t do. At least get your facts straight or present an intelligent argument.

I’d have no issue with anyone suggesting Coach K is pretentious because Duke almost never played true road games outside the ACC.

What was up with this?

Did you see Hubert before the game ? He blew past K pretty quick as K was trying to talk with him prior to the start. That’s fine w/ me. I hope Hubert does that stuff from now on. The rivalry could use a little not so nice pleasantries .

If we could have Round 3 happen at midnight tonight I would take it.

Wow. Okie dokie then. Hope you both feel better calling me out for not correctly identifying whether nearly identical pullovers were in fact identical.

You both have earned a cookie.

Good grief some folks take all of this way too seriously. Lmao

How about you stop, realize you were wrong, and being an ass. Own it. You are blaming others for you being wrong. It's comical.

At least since 1999, that is true. Not only would they not schedule a home and home series with out-of-conference competition, they wouldn't even agree to a "two for one" series out-of-conference - meaning, we'll play two in Cameron for just one game in our place. When Bruce Pearl was here, he tried to get them to agree to a two for one, but Coach K wouldn't do it.

Now, in fairness, prior to '99 they played several home and home series, including a memorable one with the Fab 5 of Michigan in December of 1991 and December of 1992.

As a Duke fan that’s not really something that I care for . I feel like going on the road in difficult environments builds character and toughness. To be fair, Duke has won 3 National titles since not scheduling home and homes. I understand the rationale behind it. You’re gonna play 9 road games in conference, which used to be much tougher than it is right now, every other year you’re on the road at a good B1G school, plus you play either UK, Michigan State or Kansas in big venue like MSG, plus a preseason tournament like Maui or this year with Gonzaga in Vegas. All that said, those teams in the 90’s played very tough OOC schedules . If I remember correctly that 91-92 team played @ Michigan, @ LSU (with Shaq) and @ UCLA who was a top 10 team, plus top 10 St John’s in Greensboro ( I was at that game). That’s a big time schedule.

I’ll be interested to see if anything changes with Scheyer and the new AD. I wouldn’t mind seeing Home and Homes with some schools, but why give someone else the fanfare?

Hard to believe the ACC tournament starts in 2 days. Not quite the same as it used be when the teacher would roll in the TV on Friday of the Tournament. You guys that grew up North Carolina know what I’m talking about.

I’ll be surprised if Duke and Carolina play again, but I’ve never wanted a round 3 more than I do this season

Excerpt from an Adam Lucas column:

While that was happening, most of Carolina's players had already gone down the steps to the locker room. Hubert Daviswas at the top of the stairs. It was pandemonium at this moment. Most of the Duke security personnel was stunned, and suddenly the vast majority of the entire Krzyzewski family was standing in the hallway outside the UNC locker room. Security initially stopped them; they didn't have credentials, because why would the Krzyzewski family need credentials on this day of all days in this place?

Davis immediately stepped in. "Please let them through," he told the security staff. "This is Coach Krzyzewski's family. They need to get through."

Security complied, and you may think you learned a lot about Hubert Davis as he orchestrated defensive matchups or managed Armando Bacot's foul situation or decided when to call a timeout.

But you will never learn more about Hubert Davis, the person, than in those few seconds, when after the biggest win of his coaching career so far, one of his main concerns was the family of the opposing coach.

The most fun parts of these matchups are always the people completely dumbfounded by tenting when it happens every year
