Duke/UNC Official Thread 2021/2022 (K’s Last Hurrah Edition)

As disappointing as UNC has been this season, I've been a no-show in this thread. Didn't even think about checking on it until this morning. I'm glad someone posted the written description of the encounter between HD and the CIS security staff regarding's K's family.

But it was another excerpt from Adam Lucas that perfectly summed up the jubilation for me. It was in his rapid reactions piece, posted just moments after the game ended:

"I'm going to be honest. I wrote some stuff, but it doesn't matter. This win will live forever and the Iron Five who played the entire second half are all-time Tar Heel heroes. The last time Mike Krzyzewski ever walks off the court at Cameron Indoor Stadium is after being defeated by the University of North Carolina coached by Hubert Davis in front of everyone who ever slapped the floor for Duke." (emphasis added)

Hard to believe the ACC tournament starts in 2 days. Not quite the same as it used be when the teacher would roll in the TV on Friday of the Tournament. You guys that grew up North Carolina know what I’m talking about.

Yes. I remember those days well.

I’ll be surprised if Duke and Carolina play again, but I’ve never wanted a round 3 more than I do this season

I remember it so well! I also remember when I moved here, I brought a small TV to work & set it up on my desk....my boss let me know quickly that 'we don't watch TV during work here'...I 'splained....I'm not watching TV, i'm watching THE basketball tourney!...it didn't work...thanks for the memories RDU Vol

Haha. No problem ! It seems like a lot of people who grew up or worked in North Carolina, particularly along Tobacco Road, during the ACC’s heyday get pretty nostalgic this time of year . The ACC Tournament was always an event. While I think that the Conference might’ve outgrown Greensboro, I think Charlotte is the perfect spot to hold the tournament each year. Brooklyn is cool, but to me NYC and the Big East is special to have all to its own.

I actually read a current article that had you guys in that 6-11 game. Only you guys weren’t the 6. 🤔
The predictions are all over the board, and I get that their record is maybe a little misleading when you look at the losses (and the margins in particular) but it would be hard to justify seeding a top 25 ranked team on the 11 line.

That’s what I thought. I don’t know how you can do that.

The thing that I’m watching w/ Duke in regards to Tournament seeding and placement is if Duke gets placed in Greenville with UNC and Auburn. I’ll be super pissed if that happens . I’d rather Duke go to Pittsburgh or basically anywhere else. I’m more worried about Duke in the first 2 rounds than I am if they advance to the second weekend.

Agreed. While selfishly I like having more games here in NYC, anywhere in North Carolina is a much better venue for the ACC Tournament. Barclays is generally sterile and emotionless for this

I won’t be surprised to see Carolina and Auburn in the same bracket and potential 1/8 or 2/7 matchup. Since Roy has retired, there’s no drama to milk out of a matchup with Kansas, so let’s pit them against Walker Kessler’s new school.

That’s a shame. I’ve never been to a game at MSG or Barclays. MSG is on my sports bucket list though.

I love MSG. Barclays is nice but probably doesn’t have quite the same atmosphere, though that may change now that Durant is there.
I’ve been in New York a few times in the Spring when the Knicks were making a Playoff run (obviously a long time ago) . That’s a different vibe. So much energy.

K on how they played against ‘cuse

Some silly fans I imagine.
People are kind of nuts. Syracuse was hitting everything. Add in the fact that Duke has a stomach bug going through the team and it was going to be a challenge. It’s not an easy task to beat a team 3 times.

Duke has been playing some uninspired ball of late. They have enough talent that they can turn it on for shorts spurts and potentially still win the ACC tournament. They’re not playing well though. If they don’t turn things around, they’ll make a relatively early exit from the NCAA tournament.
