Love the 1980 hockey analogy. The win over the USSR on Friday night in Lake Placid was the semifinal game of the medal round. That's easy to forget. Finland on Sunday was for the Gold.... and that was also quite an upset in its own right.

Or you could just use 1991... Duke's win over UNLV was a huge upset at the time, but two nights later they regrouped well enough to beat Kansas for the National Championship - although the UNLV game had clearly taken some energy out of them.

Haha I had actually written the 91 Vegas analogy, but erased it. It would be interesting if K and Duke faced off against Kansas 1 final time.

Just decided to check for 2 tickets.

Final four cheapest: $372. The rest start at $400.
Finals cheapest: $199.

I would be fascinated to know the mindset of the players on both sides. I have an overpowering sense of dread.

Enjoy your commentary on here as I’m a fellow Duke nut. Follow this thread a lot as I grew up a huge Duke fan and continue to scream at my TV when they’re playing even as I’m a full grown adult. Started paying attention to them in the 88-89 season I believe and then was hooked for life.

I’m planning to drive down to New Orleans … already have a hotel booked. You have any bright ideas for how to get tickets where I won’t have to take out a second mortgage? Would prefer to sit in the 300s or lower so that the players don’t look like ants. Willing to spend some money but not thousands. Only need two. Aware of anything through the university? Or otherwise?

I appreciate it man. Good to see another Duke fan on here. That 88-89 team was really good. I still remember Laettner and Phil Henderson getting the best of Alonzo Mourning in the Elite 8.
I wish I could give you some good advice on tickets. A couple of my friends are going or are trying to go, but they have some big time connections within the program and a couple are Iron Dukes. A friend of mine bought tickets on Stubhub, I didn’t ask for how much, but he’s a guy that doesn’t really concern himself with that sort of thing. I’d like to go, but my wife would kill me and the NOLA part of my life is kind of in the rear view . I hope you can go though .
I always swore that I’d go to the Sugar Bowl when we finally went back. Still waiting 31 years later…

Ha, thinking my wife may kill me as well. Appreciate the response though. The Iron Dukes thing is where it’s at if you can get that type of connection. I may stay at home for the semis and if they can get past Carolina, then drive down for the championship and sit in the nosebleeds. We’ll see. Go Duke!

I think there are definitely some people on the fence about going for Saturday and would hate to be there if they lost .

I hope you have a reason to go on Monday. I’m weirdly confident right now . At this point, why the hell not ? There’s no coming back from Saturday. This was never supposed to happen, but it is and everything will be different around 11:30 Saturday night .

That’s actually not that bad, but then again were just slightly removed from the game in Durham which we’re Super Bowl prices .

I should say that I’ve been waiting to go to the Sugar Bowl since college which was about 20 years ago. I was going to go in 2016 after we beat FLorida and UGA and then yeah…We went to Nashville.

He knows Roy so he’s guilty and equally hated.

Here’s a fair question: with expectations already high and often times unrealistic who in your opinion has it worse after Saturday?

If Davis wins I feel like Carolina nuts will be stuck on championship or nothing next season.

If K wins it almost feels like John would be have to climb Everest barefooted to make them happy.

I think it might be worse for Davis because in year 1 he got UNC to a final 4, beat K in Cameron in his final game and would have literally sent him to retirement. That’s pretty impressive. Hubert has done a great job the last 6-7 weeks, but there were some really bad losses this season. Despite this run, I think the verdict is still out on HD going forward because he still has to recruit and maintain the success. Being an 8 seed won’t be acceptable going forward because it’s almost impossible to go on this type of run.

OTOH, Scheyer and his staff already have an amazing class coming in next year and basically a brand new starting 5. Following a Legend is very difficult, but I think Scheyer will be given some latitude to do things his way, despite what certain articles have said.

Scheyer will have expectations but I don’t think it’ll be titles or bust for him, at least early on… even if Duke wins the title on Monday night. Folks know that K is 1 of 1. Wooden is the only thing close to him and it’s not an apples to apples comparison for various reasons. Scheyer will get time in my opinion. K knows what it’s like to not do well early on at Duke… I think he’ll push the powers that be to give Scheyer ample time.

I don’t know what to think about Davis and UNC. They looked so mediocre until about 3-4 weeks ago. I don't think Davis is the long-term answer at UNC but I also didn’t think they’d have this sort of turnaround… so what do I know?
