Duke/UNC Official Thread 2021/2022 (K’s Last Hurrah Edition)

What a game UNC has been a thorn in K’s side for longest its only fitting he is going out in his career with a loss to UNC in the final 4. UNC is playing with house money in the national championship, win or lose what they have done this year is nothing short of amazing. Hubert can coach with the best of them
Let's be honest. He was a far bigger thorn in their side. He's more successful then anyone they ever had. He's literally been better in any way you can imagine. They can gloat about the last two wins. But it's dumb. He's more successfully then any coach in UNC history. Enjoy it and recognize his ownership of them.

50-50 record against UNC is not ownership lol

If we win Monday, it would be a miracle. Tonight was a energy draining game, Bacot at half strength or unavailable is just the nail in the coffin.

If you would have told me before the season that Carolina would lose some really bad games but still manage to win the ones that count and make the championship game under a first year HC Id laugh as I walked away from crazy.

See where they were and where they are now is simply incredible. I don’t think anyone could have dreamed this tournament run. Obviously a title would be great but they’ve had a hell of a season and the bar is that much higher for Davis moving forward

I’m still not ready to hand him an extension. He’s got to explain some bad losses and get a lot more under his belt before he can coach with anyone.

I’m not a K supporter by any stretch but you can’t knock his record, what he’s done for the game of basketball, and a leader of young men.

John has enormous shoes to try and fill and meet the standard. Good luck sir!

It wasn't 50-50. He's won more then they have. Also he started at the bottom and had to build up. He has won obviously more at Duke then UNC has. Even though they have won a bunch too. Bottom line. If K coaches UNC he would be their greatest coach too. And that's ignoring the whole 25 years of cheating we all know UNC did. Turned out Carolina way was dirty as hell

The record vs UNC after tonight, presumably his final game, is 50-48. Not an ownership either way.

As for cheating, if you believe only one end of 15-501 cheats, you’re ignoring reality or are very naive. Dook and Carolina are as dirty as any other major program, Carolina just got caught. Their penalty was a blue blood penalty, as would have been Dook’s were they to have been caught.

Damn. I didn’t see this post real time - too busy watching the game and drinking. However, I know exactly the play you’re referencing. I called it out as a flop real time. I will say, though, that I thought that the game was pretty well officiated overall.

UNC really has a horseshoe up their ass in NOLA
I thought your previous post-game post was classy, and worthy of you as a poster. I’m going to chalk this one up to alcohol consumption (something most of us could claim) or just extreme disappiontment. You’re better than this, and I look foward to the banter in future years.

North Carolina fans are going to savor this one for a long time.

Yeah sure, they’re going to play for another national championship.

But they also:

-Knocked their main rival out of the tournament.
-Beat their rival in perhaps the biggest, most-important post-season game in the history of the series.
-Punctuated a legendary coach’s career, by ending it with a loss.
-Prevented their rival from winning (let alone playing for) another national championship.
-Made sure the best coach in the their rival’s history didn’t go out winning a national championship.
-Made sure that the last college basketball game for Krzyzewski - the greatest coach in the history of their rival’s program and who it could be argued really built Duke into the level of basketball powerhouse that they are today - wasn’t just a loss, but specifically a loss to them; he’ll forever have gone out in the end losing to the school’s main rival, North Carolina.

The national championship opportunity seemingly just feels like icing on the cake here.
You left out that his last home loss at Cameron indoor was also to Carolina...a loss for which he disrepected his biggest rival by claiming that it was… “unacceptable”. Everybody has moments in their lifetime that they wish they could take back. I believe this is likely one one of those moments for Coach K. He likely saw it as an apology to their fans without realizing the huge amount amount of disrespect he was showing his biggest rival. That’s at least the way I rationalize it now that I’m an old man. I sometimes fail, but I strive to see the best in people.

I agree with Kenny Smith’s post-game comments about coach K. He has consistently pushed Carolina’s basketball program to improve to another level. My personal opinion, which is rebutted by probably most Carolina fans, is that Coach K was the greatest college basketball coach of all time. I have the greatest level of respect for him.

Sorry. I meant it as a phrase that UNC always has good fortune when it comes to playing in New Orleans. I didn’t mean it in a derogatory way at all. I wasn’t trying to take away from how they played either. I’m sorry you took it that way, but I was more or less pointing out that for 40 years now the breaks tend to help UNC in NOLA.

Also, there hasn’t been alcohol involved for sometime. So if you ever wonder about that, the answer is always no, I’m just being that obnoxious.

Stupid take? Lol did Roy Williams do this or Dean Smith? Both great coaches who gracefully bowed out at the end of the year not making a spectacle of their retirement…You know why…because they are not full of themselves which is why most ppl do not like Duke and coach K

Not full of themselves? You never met or spoke with Dean Smith did you? He was an arrogant man.

How dare you speak of the dirtless man like that? Dean Smith never told a lie and the only thing he ever did wrong was chop down his father’s cherry tree .

Smith was arrogant. K is arrogant. But to go on a season long ego trip takes it to a new level. Sadly, others will follow Ks example, but to pretend it isnt in large part an ego stroking tour is naive. And I know you're anything but that.

Does it have other uses or intentions? Sure. But at the core is an arrogant man who wanted a big sendoff. Not the worst sin in history, but vanity nonetheless.

The thing that drives me crazy with K isn't even necessarily K himself, but his sycophants in the media. K is not the only person the media simps for, far from it, but over the years K seems to have more of them than any other coach, and they come forward when necessary to defend him like attack dogs.
