Dy'shawn Mobley

Mobley was just offered a scholarship offer from Vandy, but he's staying committed to UK.

From watching his highlights, IMHO, it's a big mistake to not get this guy at UT. He may not have Elite speed, but he definitely has good vision and quick feet to make guys miss. This is definitely someone UT should take a closer look at I think. Maybe he can't hit the homerun against SEC teams, but from what I saw last year, it would be nice just to see a RB who could make some tacklers miss every once in a while to pick up some extra yards. Certainly understandable if we close with a lot of 4* guys like everyone's hoping, but if we lose out on a few of those and have a spot or two left, I think UT should have someone like this in their back pocket, if possible at this point in the game.

Mobley has already said that it is UK. Why rehash it? You know that UT would not have a chance if he has already sent loud mouth Franklin back to Nashville empty handed.

Would love to see him at UT, but it's not going to happen. I'm torn, I would love for him to be another Reggie Cobb and be successful. But don't want him to come back and haunt UT. How about he is awesome for UK and puts up huge yards and TD's, but loses to UT 4 years in a row! I can live with that.

You almost had me there....then I saw the sarcasm...

Me'Shawn....we could do a lot worse.

Who is Reggie Cobb, there is Randle Cobb from Alcoa

Reggie Cobb was a great running back for the Vols in the early '90s. He was from Knoxville. He joined with Chuck Webb to create the 'CobbWebb'...we had T-shirts with a big spider web on them and everything....we were cool once....and young

Now we just old and grumpy

That brings backs some memories, it also makes me feel old. Thanks Jackson.

I'm going to make a point in this thread just so it can be case closed. Dy'Shawn Mobley is not going to UT as Randall Cobb did not. It won't make or break this recruiting class. He did not run a 4.4 forty and Dooley wisely didn't offer him a scholarship. If he goes to Kentucky and becomes the next Emmitt Smith than we can all eat crow--but whom around here would like to take bets he does not? Who offered this kid? Kentucky? Toledo? Mississippi State? One theme in common is those schools will never have BCS Championship aspirations. Every circumstance and every kid is different, but ask yourself one thing: why would you burn a scholly on a kid that doesn't run a 4'4? Wouldn't you focus your recruiting in the states of Florida, Georgia, and NC. Yes, a local kid is nice here and there but it's like rewarding kids who participate in the race. Not everyone gets a trophy--sometimes it needs to be about the best of the best!

That is one big difference between Randall Cobb and Mobley...Cobb was speedy. Kid will definitely have the same chip on his shoulder when he plays UT, but four years will determine if he ends up being another superstar.

The best way for him to show the staff that he can ball is to come to camp and do it, in person. If he didn't do it, then he has only himself to blame. If he did do it and didn't make an impression on the staff, then that settles the matter as well. Look at Cody Blanc. I keep asking myself why he is in this class and hasn't been asked to "look around." The reason is, he showed out at camp. He didn't need Rivals or Scout to be impressed. He just needed to do so in front of the decision makers.

If 4.4 speed was necessary to play tailback, none of us would have ever heard of Arian Foster, Peyton Hillis, Frank Gore, Montario Hardesty, Toby Gerhart, or Ray Rice, to name a few.

But Gunny is correct...the summer camps have somewhat become a "tryout" for the local kids. At last summer's camp, Blanc performed. Mobley struggled. That was where the decision was made to select George Bullock over the other in-state kickers.

I'm not here to defend that method as a good approach versus watching the actual games. But that seems to have been a strong factor in our selections.

 Okay - I realized in the middle of the night I wrote Reggie Cobb instead of Randall Cobb - oops. Forgive me for having a flash back of a great running back for UT

Plus the all-time leading rusher in the NFL Emmitt Smith. Smith ran a 4.6 or 4.7 at the combine.

If you'll notice, this was just an update on Mobley and not about him going to UT. There are several in this thread that would like an update on the offers he's had. If you are not one of them, then ignore the thread. :p

I haven't always agree with your posts in the past, but this one sir, was right on the money.

Just note that he played almost the entire game on both sides of the ball so on one of those runs he was tired. I agree he does not have world class speed but I think he has enough to play at UT.

How do you know that the DB that caught him did not play both sides of the ball? I watched the game as well. Mobley is a good HS football player and I wish him the best, but I don't want KY and Candy recruits. How about lets try to steal recruits from Bama, LSU and the other "good " teams in the conference.

He's not going to UT--get your nose out of his jock
