Early Vegas Lines for the Big Games

Isn't OU starting 5 new O lineman? Surely that's a advantage for us.

Our D line should feast on that

The Sooners are starting 5 lineman that have not played together. However, they have a lot of starts (several are from the transfer portal), are very talented, and we have an exceptional OL coach. Of course, it's critical that the OL works together seamlessly -- so even though we're excited about the talent we see, we're expecting a period where they learn to work together. They should be a work in progress game 1, and a very stout unit at the end of the year.

I'm well aware of Tennessee's fine DL and the high expectations for Pearce. I noticed that Phil Steele had Norman-Lott as 3rd Team all SEC, and the Vol depth chart that I saw had him listed as second team. The big orange DL unit demands respect. Still, I wouldn't count on feasting on our OL.

Meant no disrespect and should be a good game. I had thought I had read somewhere that there were 5 new lineman.

Appreciate the insight

Could be totally wrong but I believe we take it to Alabama this year. Hype doesn’t play into the boo game and I think it filters down to the players.

I think we hang 60 on Florida.

@Concept, these are good points. Maybe my reading of the situation is off and most Vol fans do expect a close game. And even if most Vols expect to dominate Oklahoma in Norman -- what's the harm. We'll play the game anyway. August should be a time of unbridled expectations for all college football fanbases!

Good luck to the Vols in every game except the one in Norman. :)

Every fanbase has some fans with crazy expectations man, but at least 70% of the posters here are realistic and predict a 9-3 record this season, maybe 20%think 10-2 and then you have the 10% with wilder expectations whether 7 or 8 wins or on the other end 11 to 12. I think 9-3 is the most reasonable expectation with a freshman QB, with a decent chance at 10-2 or better which means a playoff berth. Thats the beauty of playing in the brutal SEC...10-2 is a lock for the 12 team playoffs these days. Nobody who really knows the facts about both teams should expect to blow out your Sooners especially in Norman. If we made a poll asking how many of us will be ecstatic with a 1 point victory there this season, only a fool would choose "No."

Glad to have yall and texas in the SEC now. Beat those stupid cows who just got told to quit dirtying up OUR name....UT. Tennessee was a University before Texas was even a state. Moreover, if not for Davy Crockett and 30,000+ Tennessee Volunteers that school in austin would be Northern Mexico University. Or more likely just another cartel controlled sheithole town near the US border. GO VOLS.

I believe you mean Davy Crockett.

If you think so, it's free money in Vegas. Now, Vegas does make mistakes, and that's when you bet.
Depends on your definition of a mistake. As long as there is approximately an even amount of money bet on both sides the books don't give a rats patoot about how close the final score is to their line. Probably figured UGA has beaten us so badly the last few years they have to give us 20 to get Vol fans to bet.

So they’re saying 9-3.

Gotta hold serve in the games we’re favored and steal one as an underdog to make the playoffs.

And UGA won’t beat us by 20.

I won’t say it as assertively as you, but 20 is a lot for that game IMO.

If he can zoom focus on some WRs and TEs like he is this sweet eye candy in the article,
We Will be Good.

Looks like he's considering a pass and thinking about going deep.

Everyone needs to understand how lines work. If Tennessee is +17 it means that Tennessee is a 17 point UNDERDOG.

If Tennessee is -17, it means Tennessee is a 17 point FAVORITE.
I'm aware of how the lines work. I am simply saying that Tennessee will win by at least 17 points

UF is trash
Florida has some real good talent, and we play them early in the year. If they get it going with a strong returning QB they could surprise some teams especially early. I think if they lose a few in a row their season could come tumbling down they have probably hardest schedule in the country. I think he's recruited some players that will quit on the team, if they start losing. They play Miami, A&M, UCF, Miss State & Samford. All at home except Miss State before us. If they come in 4 & 1 or 5 & 0 they will have MO on their side, they could possibly be 2 & 3 at worst in my opinion when we play them, but I really don't see Miss State or UCF beating them.

We have very high caliber players and elite OL coaching. I think we're going to be fine.

I'm trying to understand why Vols are so very confident that they will totally dominate Oklahoma. Frankly, I just don't get it. Another Vol in this thread predicted that Tennessee will win by 17. I looked up the stats to see how often that happens. Tennessee has beaten one P5 team with a winning record at the opponent's homefield by 17 in the last 10 years (LSU in 2022). Meanwhile OU has only lost by 17 points at home once in the last 10 years, and two times if you go back to the last 20 years. That's predicting a historic-level beatdown, and I think this OU team will be an above average team by even OU's very high standards.

Don't get me wrong -- I'll concede that Tennessee could get a win in Norman. I'm just saying that I'm pretty sure it's going to be a dog fight.
It should be a very tight game. Either side should be thrilled to get a one point win.

The portal has made CFB more unpredictable than ever and making lines is more of a challenge than ever also. A year ago absolutely nobody would have called Missouri a loss but we ended up losing by 29.

Maybe that will help some realize that OU and Bama aren’t shoe-in wins or even games we “should” win. They’re games we certainly can win though. I like that UF line. I think we beat the dog crap out of them this year. UGA being a 20-pt favorites is surprising. I bet that comes down some but I’ve seen a lot of people call that a toss up game. Not according to Vegas.
Who here has said that either if those are shoe ins? Other than that special needs guy D4H

Btw, hammer us at +20. Free money. It’ll be a one possession game.

You need to relax. Also you must have me confused with someone else.
No I certainly do not. You are the same one that said Saban was on the decline in like 2014. You are the same one that makes insane expectations every year and then when they aren’t met you complain. Everyone knows your deal.

Oh, it’s not just D4H, especially that OU game. I’ve seen quite a few say that should be a win or put that down as a win while calling other games a toss up. We’re all excited but that road game at OU will be a closer game than at UGA, assuming UGA doesn’t have injury issues like their QB going down. I don’t see a one-score game at UGA, not yet. Maybe once I see us play a few I’ll think differently. I agree 20 appears high (of course we don’t know squat about how these teams will actually play yet) but if it were 10, I’d favor UGA if forced to do so. We certainly can beat them but they would have to help us some as our depth just isn’t where theirs is yet.

I think our liens are as good as theirs, and I think Nico is better than beck. I like our receivers room more, and I like their linebackers and secondary.

In years past, they had the edge at every position just about. I think that’s different this year. It’s more split.

I do think we should be favored at OU. They have concerns on the OL, it’s their biggest weakness, and we have a top 3 DL in the country. Our biggest weakness is probably our secondary, and their QB needs good protection to take of advantage of that. That’s where my opinion comes from. But I do think it’ll be a battle. I admit there’s a small part of me that believes that Heup’s grudge against OU gives us a boost and we win by more than expected, but that’s probably just wishful thinking haha
