East Tennessee Weather II

I hope you guys like rain, because the models over the next 10 days are showing ridiculous amounts of rainfall. The GFS is showing 12+ inches across most of East TN in that timeframe. I’m hoping that this ends up being wrong.
Wish is was snow!

I wouldn’t be surprised to see more honestly. Especially tonight into tomorrow, heavy bands setting up could have some areas 6+. Glad they are starting to close schools. Wish jobs would follow.

Knox County school system is getting blasted right now. They decide to wait until 10 am to go “ Uh, we’re going to dismiss students early today. Elementary schools will close in 30 minutes, while middle and high schools will close at 11:30.”

My wife was pissed. She got notified at 10:04 to get my son by 10:30. I know in my job no way I can get there in that time frame.

Their excuse was the roads became dangerous while the kids were being picked up. So, you go thru all of that then you send them home 2 hours later??? If you cared about their security would you not keep them at the school? My kid drives but they let them out at 11:30am in a terrible rain storm. She waited a while before trying but then ended up driving home in dangerous conditions. I looked on the WBIR radar the night before and these conditions were predictable. If their is any doubt just keep them home.

They also lied and said that they based their decisions on the reports from E-911 Thursday morning, and that most roads were ok. Lots of main roads were not driveable since the previous evening around 11:00 and there were plenty of Facebook pics to back it up. Knox County Schools stupidly risked kids lives to have school. There was a bus that got stranded in flood waters but the county said “it broke down.”

School systems are funded by the state for each day they are in session long enough.

They also get this money per pupil present. The more “seats in seats” (pupils present), the more funding they get that day.

They told the kids the previous day they were closing because several schools did not have enough teachers to supervise the students due to illness, but the actual order never came. Everyone was expecting it, teaches and students. So you already have a problem large enough to justify being off complicated by weather issues like flooding, hard to understand why they chose to have school.

But they have days to burn for planned snow/flu days as well.

East TN can experience some of the wackiest weather around. Flooding rains to a good dusting of snow in 24 hours.
Amen to that. The other weather board I follow was talking about the weather vortex that is Knoxville and the valley

Anyone ready for some surprise snow?😘 mainly areas south of Knoxville and yes, accumulating. How much? Hard to tell. Thinking between 2-4 with higher amounts closer to the mountains.
