We needed that rain but seriously, where are the good thunderstorms?! Are we going to have to wait until May?

The lingering El Nino has really kept the amount of bad storms extremely low. What's worse is that the transition to a strong La Nina will will have the same effect. We may see some stronger thunderstorms later in May, but it's starting to look like 2007 where we have a bad drought and very hot temperatures going into and throughout summer.

I was actually thinking about a drought given what little rain we've had this spring. It might end up being a brutally, dry summer. The kind where they try to encourage people not to shoot fireworks on the 4th of July because it's so dry. I really hope that doesn't pan out.

Bad news for the field at Neyland

I have some good news. May might not be as dry as I thought. The NAO and AO is expected to flip, which means for the short term in May we could see an increase in storms and a little bit cooler weather.

Thank God. You even referencing 2007 made me cringe. As somebody who mows yards and does landscaping, that is the most brutal summer I can remember.

What are the rain total amounts for the next few days looking like?

Todd Howell is saying about .72" by the time it's done on Monday.

You failed me today VK! I put off spreading some lawn treatment because I'd heard we were going to get a TON of rain.

I never said that there was going to be a ton of rain today, lol.

As far as this weekend, I think it will be between 0.5 - 1 inch of rain, but some locally higher amounts are possible.

No, you didn't say that but I was hoping you'd respond in time for me to make a decision before the sun went down. :)

Severe Weather Bulletin

There's a marginal risk for strong to severe thunderstorms for everyone in Tennessee this afternoon and evening. Primary threats include large hail up to Quarter size and Damaging winds up to 60 mph. A brief isolated tornado or 2 can't be ruled out. Localized flooding is also possible.

Funny you should mention that. I had this weird dream today that I was one this beach somewhere and this storm came rolling in. There were a few of us out there and we ran back to this beach house that had a covered patio. Well, I looked towards the ocean and there are these big splashes of water. I quickly realized it wasn't just a rain storm, it had giant hail in it.

Hearing a lot of thunder in South Knoxville.

In hindsight I'm not sure why they sent out that weather advisory at 2am. I guess it weakened before it finally got here because all I heard was rain.

What are your thoughts? Seems a little early to put out a watch until 10 pm unless they're expecting seriously nasty weather.
