Eating and Drinking in Knoxville (merged)

So I noticed activity (renovating) inside the old O'Charleys on the Strip for the first time in years.

Anyone hear anything about this?

I drove by earthfare today. i have never seen so many people at a grocery store in my life. probably shows the need of more quality grocery stores in knoxville

The parking lot is packed everytime I've been by that place. Is it just a newer version of fresh market?

Yes, it will be a new bar called Tin Roof... They have 2 in Nashville and 1 in Louisville... Not sure how it will do in a strictly college market, but the ones in Nashville are a blast none the less..

Stay away from Peerless Steakhouse on N. Peters, they are a huge ripoff. Claim to use a much higher quality of beef than what they serve among other things. They should be closed within a year.

I have never had a good steak at Peerless. They thrive on big-money business dinners in the meeting rooms. I'm surprised that Fleming's and Ruth's Chris haven't run them out of town.

From the service or the economy? I would imagine that a high end steak house in a small market would struggle, but I have not been to the one in Knoxville so I don't know if that is the case.

Yeah Peerless sucks for the price I ordered some stuffed puff appetizer (premeal) and I swear I believe I could have got better out of a great value box at Walmart.

Haha ya you definately could have. The spinach cheese puffs (5 for $7.95) come straight frozen from Sysco the food distributor and we stick them in the oven for about 2 minutes. To the guy that said "they have been open for years".. yes they have been open for 3 years and are losing their shirt financially. This is coming from someone that has been working there for 2 years. My only point is that there are far better values in Knoxville. As far as high end steakhouses (Flemings and Ruth's Chris) they are both hurting in the recession but should make it through as they are both chains.

FYI: both Fleming's and Ruth's Chris have a few "price fixe" specials, where you pay a set amount for a pretty decent 3-course meal (salad/meat+side/dessert). It's not a bad way to enjoy some pretty darn good food if the price point has been too high for you in the past. Info is available on both websites.

It wouldn't be the service. I've been three times, including New Year's Eve, and I have had no complaints about any of the staff.

ate at carabba's sat. the smell in that place was bad, and the food did not make up for it. my last trip there.

Unfortunately the only reason to visit Carabbas in Knoxville the last year or two is if you know the bar tender. I've been friends with a few over the years they have no problems taking care of the regulars and their friends.

I would guess there might be some at the Sunspot. But it might be in the bottle

Thanks... Bottle would be just fine too... I'll have to check it out, searching for a place to eat and have a few beers to pass some time after the game.

if it's not too hot, the patio in front of OCI/old tap room looks nice... no idea what they have beer-wise..

I'm told the place in the old Charlie Pepper's building on the strip has a food challenge. Something like a 2 or 3 lbs burger and fries with 30 minutes on the clock. Anyone here got more information or tried it? I'm not personally looking to try it, but I always find these sorts of challenge interesting and amusing.

went to Ye Olde last week for the first time in about 3 years, what a great place. Now all i just need is to go back to the Fox and the Hound

i don't know when the last time you were there, but it has went downhill bad in the last few years. it's still good, but nowhere near what it once was.
