Eating and Drinking in Knoxville (merged)

you can get chorizo at any of the mexican markets in town. I get it on the corner of washington pike and whittle springs. cheap and good.

Try a hamburger and milkshake at Long's on Kingston Pike, you'll forget all about the chorizio

There are a number in Lenoir City, for those who live in West Knoxville.

Is it actual Spanish chorizo? Some of the chorizo you get is made in Mexico and is actually Mexican Chorizo (totally different taste). This product is called Palacios and is made in Spain. I think they are the only ones allowed to sell it in the US. I'll try to get by that store and check them out.

Well, seeing as how sausages are kind of "homemade recipes" for each region there can be differences. For the most part Spanish style uses spices distinct to Spain like spanish paprika (shocker) and that may be the spice you enjoy. I would try the different mexican markets and see if you like those as well...any way you slice, chorizo is great.

Your right, I've had both and chorizo is good no matter where its made. Thanks for the information, I'll definitely have to get up there and check out one of those Mexican stores. I love to cook but for some reason I've never been to a mexican market.

Does Tennessee Pride or Jimmy Dean's make Chorizo?

I don't think so. Johnsonville (I think) makes it but its not as good as authentic mexican/spanish chorizo (IMO). You can sometimes find authentic mexican chorizo at walmart though. Best bet would probably be a mexican market.

Have you ever mail ordered spanish chorizo? I read somewhere that there is a company that imports it. I wonder how good it would be coming all the way to knoxville

La Tienda is the company. Their products are primo but they are expensive. I shop there for stuff I can't find anywhere else.

awesome, thanks. I used to live in Northern New Mexico and I really miss the food. Fresh hatch green chiles are the best. Not quite the same from a can

I can't afford to go to Spain so I am content with experiencing their country through their food (if you know what I mean).

I know this has probably been posted but I'm too lazy to scroll through all this stuff. I've heard there is a fresh seafood market in Knoxville that is very good. Has anyone heard about it?

Coastal Connections on Middlebrook Pike is good, as well. They supply stuff to Copper Cellar Corp., I believe.

We ate at the new Mexican grill in Turkey Creek and had a great meal (it's in the site formerly occupied by Vinny and Me. My wife and I had the mega fajitas that were served in a lava rock bowl -- complete with beef, chicken, shrimp, pork, chorizo, and cactus. Good margaritas, too.

There was talk about pig burgers on the "markeith ambles oci" thread a few weeks ago.. I stumbled across this link to get the original sauce... not sure if it's authentic or not? or if this is the same place that ppl were talking about....

buy the sauce.. BRO. JACKS BBQ SAUCE 1922

Info about bro. jack's bbq... Swank Pad's Best of Knoxville

Knoxville has its own barbeque tradition which is perhaps the best there is. I was introduced to Brother Jack's barbeque around 1986. I used to hang out with Tip Jackson on Thursday afternoons waiting for the first pigburgers to be ready. For a long while I was there every Thursday, and often Friday and Saturday too. I got to know him and Eugene "Jeep" Jackson and his son Sonny.
