Edward Snowden: American Hero

Who knows what is legal in domestic espionage these days? I personally believe that there is way more of it going on than we are told. Without jumping on the "Snowden is a traitor" bandwagon, I do not think the man is a whistle blower. He did not take his information to some Inspector General or to the Congress; he fled the country to Hong Kong. He over cooked his own goose, and it cannot be salvaged. It remains to be seen what information he will release, how the press will manage it, and what the American people will think about it.

Embarrassing, you sound like a New Yorker trying to fit in in the South. Your "goose is cooked" and you "overcook your grits". Please check for proper use of colloquialisms next time. That is all.

As leaker Snowden flees, defender and critics clash over national security risks - NBC Politics

This article includes statements of both the "100 lashes before we hang him" crowd and the Guardian reporter who is guilty of publishing Snowden's leaked material. According to Glenn Greenwald, “There’s been nothing...revealed that's been remotely endangering of national security.” Then he said that Snowden warned him to “only publish what Americans should know – but don’t harm national security...” Hum, it appears that Snowden leaked material to the press which could damage national security and asked the press not to use it to damage national security. So now the press is the judge of what is and is not damaging. That's not good. The alternative is our government's mushroom treatment, to keep us in the dark and feed us manure.

If Vlad Putin will steal an NFL owner's Super Bowl ring in front of his face(which he did) then what will he do with Snowden's laptop?

Now the Russians are saying that Snowden never entered Russia.

"He has not crossed the Russian border," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a joint news conference with Algeria's foreign minister. We consider the attempts to put blame on the Russian side ... absolutely groundless and unacceptable."

That denial did not last long.

This were my sentiments...

Obama is a joke worldwide. He's being snubbed by these leaders, and I'm sure they think it's funny. Weak.

They know he'll be back over there kissing ass at some point in the near future.
Bingo...we're the laughing stock of the world.Way to go Barry...

The administration working as smoothly as ever

U.S. says it didn't blunder when Snowden fled Hong Kong – CNN Security Clearance - CNN.com Blogs

On June 14, with Snowden believed to be hiding in Hong Kong, the Justice Department filed sealed charges. The next day, the United States requested the Hong Kong government to provisionally arrest him for purposes of extradition. But the State Department did not revoke his passport until almost a week later - although it stresses it did it before he left Hong Kong.

The United States also did not ask Interpol to issue a red notice to arrest Snowden.

Now they say he is in Russia. On his way to Moscow. And has no agreement with the USA. Says he has committed no crime on Russian soil and is a free man

That is what Putin says, but he does what he wants. How free is everybody else in Putinland? Only as free as Putin says they are. Snowden is a man without a country, and he has things Putin wants badly. So why wouldn't Putin take those things, one way or another? Isn't that what Putins do?

He might, but he probably will let Snowden do what he wants just to make Obama and the goon brigade running the government look bad.

What if the whole thing were a clever ruse by some other 3 letter agency? What if they liked the old cold war ways with the competition with China and Russia and wanted to spark some controversy? What if there was too much info in the database and we couldn't really track the terrorists as well as we wanted so we decided to leak the program and, thus, get them to change tactics and, consequently become more visible? What if Snowden is really a plant from one agency to the next?

The title of this thread gives me pause. Wouldn't a hero be someone who stayed in his country and fought the right fight, instead of running away and potentially doing great harm to his country?

Wat?

It is rather heroic to do great harm to a corrupt and out-of-control government. Every time.

The reason he went to the media is because every time someone like him goes to representatives it gets swept under the rug. So he does the right thing to get the program out, which should be available for public discourse anyway. What reason does he have to stay here, where he'd just end up like Bradley Manning in a torture chamber?

If the government wasn't so ****ty, we'd be able to have reasonable discourse and nobody would have to run for their lives releasing information that should be public anyway.
