Edward Snowden: American Hero

What would you do at this point? Just accept whatever the US government does to you?

If Obama is worried about what Snowden can tell our enemies, couldn't he just...you know....pardon him?

If he is a hero, he is the biggest ***** of a hero I have ever seen.

Will the American Public still owe him a debt of gratitude when his information is used against us, either domestically or internationally?

And yes IMO. The govt has clearly overstepped it's boundaries and he let the world see it. Any and all blame should be placed on them.

Well, it used to mean you valued the right to privacy. You didn't strike me as the unprincipled type who roots for 1) Party of the D and 2) Big government above all.

Again, I am all for protecting the rights to privacy for the American citizen. I am not for a guy who releases the information to the wrong people. People who think his motivation was purely innocent are delusional.

What are you expecting to happen to the American People as a consequence of the leak? Most likely scenario? Worst case scenario?

What are his motives then? Now he wants asylum because his hand is forced, but initially what do you think he was after when he gave up a cushy job in Hawai'i (I think I saw he was making like $200K)?

200k a year, versus potentially millions selling information?

Domestically? Likely nothing major. Abroad? Who knows. But you cannot deny it weakens our security efforts.

I don't know that it does in any impactful way.

I am under the impression that half of what we do in the name of security weakens our security, or if it does strengthen security, the cost is too high.

I think that was the point. Our security measures are so tight they infringe on the 4th amendment rights of every US citizen. He is seeking asylum as his only way of survival. The US Govt would surely see his life ended if/when they get the chance.

Or you know, letting the world know that scumbag US govt has been unlawfully spying on its citizens and probably snooping too much on her "allies"

What has he sold? And how much?

Snowden has publicly offered Brazil information on NSA spying in exchange for asylum. If he's willing to do that, what do you think he's said to Russia and China? If those countries intelligence agencies haven't, at minimum, spoken to him then they are completely incompetent at their jobs.

I don't know what he has said, and neither do you. And if the USA is spying on Brazil, why shouldn't he tell them?

The fed got busted. Period.

And I'm glad for it. Hopefully a few more people wake the hell up and realize it's not all candy and roses.

Asylum =\= selling information.

Fact is that he wants the hell out of Russia and is willing to give information to achieve it. I might have given him some respect had he only released domestic surveillance documents but that hasn't been the case. His actions have harmed US national security whether you want to admit it or not.
