Edward Snowden: American Hero

Buddy, I'm going to tell you something right now, and it will hurt:

If you want to continue to be taken seriously (by posters like me, at least) in the anti-God, anti-religion threads, you're going to need to step up your game here.

If you seriously think Snowden is this infallible and noble of a human being, who then just decides to spend the rest of his life in a country that treats people even more like **** than we do, I don't know what to tell you.

Step up your game, son.

I've never claimed he's infallible. But if you outed the U.S. Government and people were calling for your head, you may end up in a situation where you have to give information to another country for them to take you in.

I've tried to be polite, but are you ****ing stupid or something?

Your post here may be the dumbest in VolNation Politics Forum history.

What valuable information did he give to Russia? Think about it. What department does he work for? Do you really think he knew some amazing things that Russia would really want that bad?

I'm honestly curious as to what was so dumb about that?

Our outrage shouldn't be with snowden for telling us the government was ****ing us. It should be with the officials who authorized it.

Russia wasn't his intial destination.

And if I were placing spy's in America, they'd have far more important government jobs than snowden.

Huff, you seem like a rather intelligent man.

How you're unable to connect the dots between defect from Washington to Moscow via Beijing, however, is beyond me.

You apparently have far more trust in our fellow men than I do.

I don't trust government which is why I like whistleblowers. You have far too much trust in government.

Nobody takes you seriously. Get off your high horse

He revealed that the U.S. Government was illegally spying on its citizens.

He could have done that without handing documents over to an opposing government. Yes he would have had to face consequences and probably been put in prison but sacrificing is what heroes do.

You act as if handing over documents to Russia (allegedly) was his first move.

He did release that information without handing anything over to Russia.

And no he would have been killed. And you do not have to be a martyr to be a hero.

Well said, hog.

And sacrificing is not what he did.

If he went to the press with all of the same documents, he would not have been killed.

That is an assumption on your part.

And you do know this is what he did, right?

On May 20, 2013, Snowden flew from Hawaii to Hong Kong, where in early June he revealed many classified NSA documents to journalists Glenn Greenwald and Laura Poitras, both of whom he had summoned to Hong Kong for that purpose.

He chose to travel to a communist country to leak his info.

He gave his info to US journalists. Let's make sure that's said. He gave his information to the U.S. media.

Yes, he fled the country first. Yes, it was a communist country he went to. But where would have recommended he went? England? They would have extradited his ass in a heartbeat.

Forgive me but please repost the link where any agency listed a deceased agent.

Does the CIA memorial wall count? If you are killed by terrorists, you automatically make the wall. We have 10 of the 16 names of agent deaths since 9/11.

Now hypothetically speaking, if Russia killed agents because of Snowden, why would the US government hide it? The only reasons I can think of is they don't want to confirm to Americans and Russians that we have operatives (dying) in Russia...but Russia already knows in this hypothetical. So they'd only be hiding it from us.
