Eight Million Dollars

For everyone thinking we are going to lose CJH, who do you think is going to buy out his contract?

For everyone wanting to pay Saban like money before we lose CJH, who is going to poney up $8 million to buy out his contract?

History is a great example to pay attention to. How many coaches have had an excellent first year or two then receive a major contract only to have it bought out. We can see it is about to happen with Jumbo and the Charlie Wise deal at Notre Dame, among others.

How about.............Alabama. Or Texas A&M. Maybe Auburn. Those first two schools have the money. If they want someone, they come up with the money.

Texas A$M could outbid us if it wasn’t for Jimbo’s buyout but to put it in perspective, last I checked there’s not a billionaire in the state of Alabama and Tennessee has at least 3 billionaire boosters. If college football comes down to money and nil, the state of Alabama is in a world of hurt.

Don't know how many contribute, but Tennessee has 8.

$8 million ain’t s*** to an NFL team or any other big time P5 team*

*TN can pay just as good as any other P5 school

I have not looked at his contact specifics.

Usually though, the buyout is the buyout-regardless of who pays it.

The hiring school usually pays the buyout or in other cases, makes the coach paying the buyout part of the salary negotiations.

Realistically, it's not a matter of just more money at some point. It's a matter of where you want to be.

If Heupel is happy in Knox, has an AD he trusts, things are going well, and his family is happy-why would be leave for another "unknown"? Now realistically if tOSU, ND, stuff life that came calling he may leave. You really thing he's gonna leave UT at this point in time to go rebuild Nebraska or some crap though for an extra $500K a year? Not gonna happen.
No , I don’t believe he will leave.

Heup is on his way to building the next Elite program at a place that has history…The SEC is the league that all top coaches come to minus a few schools like Ohio St, USC etc. His bud is running the Athletic Dept and will have no reason to leave once they drop a $8-10m deal on the table. We got us a diamond in the rough and he’s been able to move the program to top 5 status in less than 2 years. Nobody saw this coming and it’s the real deal now. He has no reason to look elsewhere. Great things still to come!

I’m with you he ain’t going no where.

He’s got things rolling. Things are looking great and just getting started. This could be good for a while.

However if somehow he does……..him or White is getting sucker punched.

Who else saw the thread title, and assumed it was another discussion of Nico Iamaleava's Name / Image / Likeness deal with Spyre Sports ?

Well I guess Nebraska can afford an extra $8 million, no matter how stupid it is

A recently signed Big Ten television agreement of more than $7 billion is set to pay member schools each between $80 million and $100 million annually after the deal begins in July 2023.

That article also mentions that
Wow. That's egregious. AD has to go.

A recently signed Big Ten television agreement of more than $7 billion is set to pay member schools each between $80 million and $100 million annually after the deal begins in July 2023.

Well. I guess they can afford $ 8 million for sure, though it seems stupid.

An interesting nugget in that article is that Nebraska has not been to a bowl for a longer period of time than any P5 school other than Kansas. Wow. At least Poot, Jones, and even Dooley got us to bowls. As bad as we were the last 15 years, Nebraska was worse.

He followed his AD here. Let me repeat that. He followed his AD here, the AD he likes, trusts and has a wonderful relationship with and by doing so went from a mid profile program to a high profile program with all the program perks needed to compete big time.

After being scapegoated by Oklahoma and having to deal through those repercussions how many boss types do you think he actually trusts?

Heupel is the 11th paid coach in the SEC (out of 14). The only coaches making less are at Mizzou, SCar and Vandy. Let that sink in.

7.5 million would get him to 4th assuming no other coaches get raises. Jimbo is 3rd at 9 million.
7.5 million would make him 5th behind Fisher, Saban, Smart, and Kelly (not in that order). It would put him just slightly above Kiffin. The first three have national titles. Kelly has made it to the playoffs and a national title game. I would agree that $7.5-8 million a year is the figure to keep him here.

At some point, I think $$$ becomes a non-factor. CJH will earn generational wealth coaching at UT...I think he really loves his job, the school, the atmosphere in Neyland. I remember back when some of you Nancy's were so worried about UGA trying to poach Doofus Dooley.

He walks on water and in 2 years has put us in striking distance of a NC. There are very few programs in the country that he could duplicate that level of turn around at. The probability of him doing it twice is slim. Why leave here when he could extort Jimbo Fisher levels of money out of UT?

He gets paid as much as Eli Dinkywitz and $2 million less than Lane Kiffin. Alabama estimates that Saban is worth $25 -30 million a year so they are getting a bargain.

The amount of excitement Heupel has brought to this program is worth a Top 5 salary, and definitely Top 10.

Worried about paying it? Tell Bill Lee to adjust the budget. It’s worth it. Raise my damn taxes I don’t care.

If Barnes gets bounced in first weekend again fair his butt and give Heupel his $5 mil. Promote the freshman fB coach to head basketball coach & move on. Blue font

8 mil is a rounding error in the NFL.

Now, I want to keep him, but an NFL job wouldn't be 24/7 365 chasing recruits.

Great coaches are very rare and scarce these days. We have a lot of positive momentum with the program from everywhere including news media (even ESPN) and especially in recruiting. PAY THE MAN WHATEVER IT TAKES TO KEEP HIM HERE!
