Election Night (or days, or weeks, or whatever) 2022

Anyone saying they are going to eliminate the entire debt is a moron. No, I'm dumb but not dumb enough to fall for that. He's never shown to be a fiscal conservative in his life

He never held office before so where was he supposed to set an example?

That's the number 1 problem with the GOP. They've spent 20 years running on being "Not quite as irresponsible as the other guys".

Then once in power turn out to be just as irresponsible as the other guy.
They just named it neo-conservatism and people lapped it up because the red team was winning. Eventually, you look up one day and realize the other guys have been running to the left and you've stayed right behind them.

You could look at my finances and the way we live to determine I'm conservative with money. Most people don't change. He is who I thought he was

He's been a pretty successful businessman.

It's ok to admit that you didn't like him so his personality overrode any policy he could have proposed with you. I didn't vote for him either for 1 reason. I didn't like him but at least I'll admit it.

I've said I didn't like him but his policies sucked too. I can vote for policy

His life has been built on debt with gifted money. That's how he ran it with govt money too. My read on him was correct but I didn't realize how bad a leader he would be. He's all marketing

I guess I'm too cynical to register surprise at something like this. Between genuine ignorance and terribly worded ballot items, 20% seems within the margin of expected outcomes.

That's an understatement. I am by no means ignorant. I read fully the TN "slavery" ammendment on the ballot, and voted yes. I read it again this morning on the election results and it says TN voted to limit "slavery" for incarcerated inmates. Which I do disagree with. I support putting inmates to work, voluntarily or not. So, now I'm not sure what I voted for. I felt at the time I voted on the slavery referendum I knew what I was voted for. In reading the ballot, I could have sworn it was for putting the language into the Tennessee Constitution that slavery and inoluntary servitude, other than persons incarcerated for criminal offenses, was against the law. Maybe I voted for that language and it lost since TN as of yesterday will now limit involuntary servitude of inmates. Who knows. I also believe in right to work, So I'm sure I voted for shooting down mandatory union dues, etc in that referendum.

Georgia you can't really blame on Trump. If not, Herschel then who? I don't even remember who else ran. In Pennsylvania there were at least two other good options. The governor candidate seems like he was downright awful which also dragged down Oz.
GA and PA I don't blame Trump per se. If you're the GOP and it's voters, you have to recognize the silliness of putting up Dr. Oz and Herschel Walker. They aren't serious candidates. Neither is Warnock or Fetterman but the GOP is tossing an unneeded wrench.

That's not true at all. If he would have had any fiscally conservative values I could have

He's just such a poor communicator
So you also vote re your taxes? My husband and I too, since it is really the only thing (except inflation) that actually has an impact on us at all… we paid 14k less a year under under Trump due to filing under a 1099.. I don’t really give a sh!t about anything else to be honest.. I just like to mind my own business and keep as much of our money as possible… everyone gets distracted by the dumb stuff imo

NY slowly shifting to purple? Seems alot of pickups and a Governor race that was within 5% and closest previously has been 20%. Key win by Mike Lawler.

"Independents/moderates" overwhelmingly vote for whoever is promising them free chit and that's usually the Dem candidate. They don't vote 3rd party like they should if they were really independents.
This independent votes for the best candidate that match my values. I'm not interested in being bought by free stuff that isn't free at all. 3rd party people are usually equally crazy as dem and rep.

Values in politics to me are policies.

How many Dems have you voted for? How often do you vote party line?

The other GA candidates were okay, just got swamped by (1) Trump's support of Herschel and (2) Herschel's celebrity.

Look I know Herschel does not speak like a Harvard graduate. The personal accusations (were they ever really proven or just Kavanaugh-esque type attacks?) were troubling. But I supported him financially because he would not vote in lockstep with the Dems like Warnock. I've also followed him over the years and he is not the ogre he was portrayed to be by some. He's actually a pretty decent fellow. I'm sure Warnock is not the equivalent of Jack the Ripper and Mao either, but he'll vote with Schumer and that I cannot abide.

It is what it is. There are a lot of reasons for this failure and regardless of how the Senate turns out, it is a failure. The GOP lost the midterms for a number of reasons and credit to LG for doing a pretty fair job of summarizing them earlier.

If you paid that much less then you likely could have done better before Trump. His policies greatly contributed to the current inflation mess plus he promised to double down if re-elected. So you give one about that or just pull the maga hat down low and ignore it?

The establishment Republicans fared far better than the Trumpistas.

Let me rephrase what I posted so that we are clear.

So you think the GOP estabishment candidates would have been better instead of Trump populists? I don't think this means there is a hunger for more Mitch McConnell/Mitt Romney types.

The argument you are making is that it appears that the GOP establishment "fared" better in the election, which is true to an extent. Not really going to debate that. My point is that these establishment GOP candidates are likely no better or worse when they get to Washington. They are not going to significantly change the status quo for working class Americans, which is what @GAVol was commenting on. Working class Americans having to be convinced that we need to go back to the old GOP pre-2016.

I voted Obama twice. Regret the second time. Ever since 2012, Democrats have quickly gone away from my preferred policies so it's been a minute.

I'll also admit my policies have become more in line with conservatives as I get older. At 34, certain things matter more.

No we made the same amount lol… it’s bot about what you make, it’s about what you get to get to keep.. those who work under LLCs get the shaft under Dem policies lol
