Electric Vehicles

26 states signed up, 7 stated have issued conditional permits and 17 are in bid process.

Part of this is perception. The anti EV media and interests throw out scare stories of people not being able to find charging. That myth will fade in time as more and more people get them and have no issues and overcome the scare stories.

Well, once the EVs all catch fire and burn to the ground, there won't be any need for the chargers.

My company supplies security equipment for the federal government. Lately we have been doing installations which require major civil works and the process is painfully slow. These news stories don’t surprise me a bit. The government can issue contracts for the equipment, but it takes years to deploy.

Small Illinois Town of 9,000 Approves $2 Billion Chinese-Owned EV Battery Factory - despite protests from local residents who say the company is 'un-American'

A Small Illinois town of just 9,000 people has approved the construction of a $2 billion Chinese-owned electric vehicle battery factory - despite protests from local residents who say the company is 'un-American.'

The village board in Manteno, Illinois, approved a zoning change that clears the way for constructing the Gotion Inc. manufacturing plant - but the decision has divided locals.

Gotion's plant is set to bring $536 Million in state incentives, creating 2,600 local jobs and will push forward Governor J.B. Pritzker's desire to make Illinois an EV hub.

The company is a California-based subsidiary of Gotion High-Tech of China. It has been operating in the US for nearly a decade, and is 30 percent owned by Volkswagen.

The issue was voted 5-1 in favor on Monday, where dozens of locals came to protest in opposition of the project - holding signage reading 'go home Gotion.'

Many were fearful of Chinese influence that may seep into the town.

When did Mississippi and alabama switch spots?

Hybrids aren't the same as EVs, though of course EV battery packs are a huge part of the overall cost of the car.

I considered one as I got my Tesla, but they have more things to go wrong, I figure.
It’s the same technology with the only major difference being the hybrid battery is smaller and thus should cost less. So yes a hybrid battery costing $20K is freaking ridiculous.

When I bought my truck just over a month ago, I passed on the hybrid because I wanted the AWD version. I didn't do the homework on the hybrid because it was out of the picture - only the regular turbo engine with AWD. I'm open minded about hybrids, but knowing more about battery replacement would have made it a non starter for me. There were very few of the truck I had in mind on lots, and I did have to get one trim line lower to find one; I'm pleased with it, but a couple of the options on the higher trim line would have been nice. Most of the newer trucks the dealer got in later were hybrids.

I thought you bought a Maverick?

I did. I comes in a hybrid with a CVT or the EcoBoost engine with 8 speed automatic. The AWD is an "on demand" thing that kicks in when the system senses slippery conditions and it's only available with the EcoBoost engine. I have to look at the manual to verify, but I think you can select AWD manually - it's normally disengaged to give better fuel mileage. When I got back home a couple of days ago, the mix city and highway mileage was right at 29 mpg - about 580 total miles so not really broken in yet.

It threw me off when in your previous post you mentioned buying a truck… 😎

Several companies that you can have your battery replaced and warrantied for 3 years for around the $5k window are out there. Basically all new hybrid car batteries have a warranty for 8 years/100k.

So after 8 years an EV is absolutely worth 0$.

If you own a Tesla, then Elon Musk would like you to pay attention please. His company is recalling nearly all of the vehicles it sold in the U.S., upwards of two million units across its model lineup, to address defective software designed to ensure drivers are engaged when they use Autopilot.

I'm not quite sure that sending out a software update is the same as a "recall," but OK.

Pretty awesome they have the tech to fix an issue like this without having to bring in the cars at appointments for a day or two each.

Don’t Tesla’s auto update their software when they are charging?
