Electric Vehicles

I'm not quite sure that sending out a software update is the same as a "recall," but OK.

Pretty awesome they have the tech to fix an issue like this without having to bring in the cars at appointments for a day or two each.

Did you actually expect him to read or think for himself?

Software updates for a car..sheesh. Privacy issues, hacks..ridiculous.

I liked simpler times..roll down the window, manually move the seat..the horror. You could maintain the vehicle yourself.

Dude, all modern cars operate with ECUs. Engine light? Plug in the magic purple cord.

The feigned outrage about anything EV is hard to understand.

It isnt just about EVs and it isnt outrage. 100 ECUs is over the top ridiculous.

GM’s Cruise Laying Off 900 Employees, or 24% of its Workforce: Read the memo here

The layoffs, which primarily affected commercial operations and related corporate functions, are the latest turmoil for the robotaxi startup and come one day after Cruise dismissed nine “key leaders” for the company’s response to an Oct. 2 accident in which a pedestrian was dragged 20 feet by a Cruise self-driving car after being struck by another vehicle.

Since the October accident, Cruise’s robotaxi fleet has been grounded, pending the results of independent safety probes; its leadership has been gutted; production of a new robotaxi has been halted; hundreds of vehicles have been recalled; and local and federal government officials have launched their own investigations, among other concerns.

Cadillac Reveals three-row Vistiq to round out Electric SUV Lineup

DETROIT — Cadillac plans to round out its upcoming lineup of all-electric SUVs with a three-row vehicle called the Vistiq, a replacement for its current gas-powered XT6.

luxury brand on Thursday released images of the Vistiq, which is expected to be its fifth EV, and slot between the company’s current all-electric Lyriq and upcoming Escalade IQ.

With confirmation of the Vistiq, Cadillac’s forthcoming EV lineup now matches its traditional internal combustion engine vehicle lineup, aside from an extended ESV version of the Escalade.

Why EV drivers SHOULD have Range Anxiety: Half of Electric cars fall short on their official range by as much as 50 miles - here are the vehicles with the best and worst

Bad news for EV owners with range anxiety - a half of electric cars go don't even go as far as makers claim.

A real-world test of 22 of the most popular electric cars has found that 10 fell short of their advertised range.

The biggest difference between quoted and actual ranges was observed in a 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat Extended Range, which starts at around $70,000.

i could see a CAL just like VW. 15-20% of range for Ford.

Major Automakers Tell Biden To Reconsider Rule Propping Up EVs That Would Kill Gas-Powered Cars

An alliance of top automakers urged President Joe Biden to reconsider rules that would prop up electric vehicles at the expense of gas-powered ones.

The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, representing General Motors, Toyota Motor, Volkswagen, Ford Motor, Stellantis, and other major manufacturers, took issue with three new proposed rules by the Environmental Protection Agency, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the Department of Energy, Reuters reported. One of the three rules would force automakers to make 67% of new vehicles electric by 2032.

In a letter to the White House and agencies behind the rule changes, the AAI reportedly warned that the proposed rules "could prematurely force abandonment of many internal combustion engine vehicles and their associated revenue, reducing the availability of capital necessary for automakers to fund the EV transition."

Waiting for the very sensitive Tesla owners to refute battery range.
I assume I'm in your target audience. Not sure where "sensitive" comes into play.

I've been measuring using my odometer and comparing to battery charge and predicted range. Normally, 90% charge predicts around 270 miles. In the warmer fall months, I was calculating roughly 280-300 miles per 100%, and I drive pretty hard, always in sport mode with tight steering, generous AC use, and plenty of audio and map/spotify/network time.

I would call it very accurate at this point, but I'm looking forward to testing in colder weather. I have a charge/mileage count running this week.

Same issue I recently discovered when I decided to purchase battery powered lawn equipment, blower, weed wacker.
Most come with one battery..if you want a second battery ( you'll probably need a back up) the extra battery is more expensive than buying another tool ( blower with battery and charger).

For example if you purchased a blower with battery and charger and later the battery lost its ability to hold a long term charge it's more cost effective to buy a complete new kit and scrap the old one.

You do have to be cautious when buying the second tool, not all batteries have the same capacity despite being the same physical size from the same manufacturer

You're sensitive because you didnt fall for the headline and you actually read...

3/22 were -20 or more of their advertised range
11/22 were betweeen -19 and +19 of their advertised range
8/22 were +20 or more of theie advertised range

So 19/22 were materially within or better than the advertised range

My wife's hybrid range in warmer months is spot on with estimates on all electric mode. Come winter and it's about a 20-30% reduction

Official Leading Biden's EV Push Steps Down in Surprise Move After Heavy GOP Opposition

A top federal official who helped craft regulations aimed at pushing future electric vehicle (EV) use is departing the Biden administration in an unexpected move, according to an internal agency memo obtained by Fox News Digital.

Ann Carlson — who is currently the acting administrator for the Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) — will step down from her role on Dec. 26, 2023, and depart the agency entirely at the end of January. Patrick Lally, who heads NHTSA's governmental affairs office, made the announcement in a memo circulated among agency staff late Friday.

Carlson, though, had garnered strong opposition from Republicans over her past climate activism, support for regulations targeting gas-powered vehicles and how she continued to lead NHTSA in an acting role even after failing Senate confirmation for the post in a permanent capacity.
