any breakthrough will result in new battery plant tooling obsolescence
tens of billions flushed on something not ready for prime time
exactly why the premature gov push is misguided

LOL. Most people these days recognize the abilities of Toyota --

On July 3, the company said it had simplified the production of the material used to make solid-state batteries and hailed the discovery as a significant leap forward that could dramatically cut charging times and increase driving range. “For both our liquid and our solid-state batteries, we are aiming to drastically change the situation where current batteries are too big, heavy and expensive. In terms of potential, we will aim to halve all of these factors.”said Keiji Kaita, president of the Toyota research and development center for carbon neutrality.

Toyota Has a Game-Changing Solution for a Common EV Issue (yahoo.com)

The Japanese automaker said it has made a breakthrough that will allow it to cut the weight, size and cost of batteries in half.

Solid-state batteries can hold much more power and are able to charge quickly without getting hot, making them much safer.

Your reading comprehension sucks

what were you referring to, regarding prime time ?

what were you referring to, regarding prime time ?
I was talking about current investment in battery plant tooling and processes that are now obsolete
obviously the current batter tech was not ready fir prime time and just became obsolete as well

Biden electric vehicle push might stall out due to new legislation

Cobalt mined by child labor or electric vehicles . Your move Joe.

Have you listened to Joe Rogan's podcast with Siddharth Kara? This guy goes into great detail about Cobalt mining in The Congo using child/slave labor. About 75% of the world's Cobalt supply is in one little section of the Congo. Cobalt is toxic and these guys are in there using rudimentary tools, wearing flip flops, no masks, etc. coming into contact with that stuff, breathing it in all for the low low price/wage of $1 to $2 a day so that cell phones and EV's can be mass produced. The video is just sad on so many levels. Guess who rushed in and bought those mines up early on? Our buddies over at the CCP.

The current batter tech has fulfilled prime time just fine.

Retooling is a natural process of technology breakthrough. e.g. The old Saturn tech is out, and Lyriq EV is in.

what you refer to as "obsolete" others view as "investment"

You don’t invest in tooling and 2 years later scrap it. you receive no return on your investment

battery makers (mfrs like Toyota) most certainly do

"Just one problem — the liquid electrolyte in most lithium-ion batteries can burst into flames. Gerbrand Ceder, a materials scientist at the University of California, Berkeley, has developed a solid electrolyte that contains nothing combustible and that could last longer. “A solid-state battery would be the ultimate battery in terms of safety, and probably in terms of lifetimes as well,” he says.

"A solid-state battery is a battery technology that uses solid electrodes and a solid electrolyte, instead of the liquid or polymer gel electrolytes found in lithium-ion or lithium polymer batteries. Materials proposed for use as solid electrolytes in solid-state batteries include ceramics (e.g., oxides, sulfides, phosphates), and solid polymers."

Biden's green agenda could be at risk as labor groups enter Electric Vehicle contract negotiations

President Joe Biden's green energy agenda could face significant roadblocks as unionized auto workers prepare to strike over the hazards and lack of benefits in electric vehicle production.

The president aims to have 50% of all new vehicle sales be electric by 2030 and achieve a carbon-free power sector by 2035, and he has his eyes on several other green policies. However, labor unions argued that there are not enough worker benefits to convince them to move to electric vehicle plants or factories, which could halt Biden's attempts for a green U.S. auto field.

On Monday, the UAW released a paper called “High Risk & Low Pay: A Case Study of Ultium Cells Lordstown." The union said it highlights the "dangerous working conditions" at General Motors's joint-venture battery cell plant in Ohio. Several aspects of the report detail hazardous working conditions involving contact with chemicals combined with low pay and benefits.
