Elite 8 rings

Sick of these Debbie Downers who come out of the wood work whenever someone gets some nice, free jewelry. Anyone who isnt a complete A-hole would congratulate someone who gets $3K+ worth of jewelry. These have Diamonds, you should say "Gee Thats nice". Instead you poo-poo on their party by saying they dont deserve them because rings are for only champions. In professional sports, rings are only for champs becuase they get paid massive amounts of money to win or lose. Since the kids are amateurs, they deserve gifts when they have a sucessful season.

Its outrageous to talk bad about these kids and their acheivements, but whatever makes you feel better about yourself and that hunk of scrap metal that you earned from pinning some dude from Sweetwater in 1985. You rep that HS ring into your 50's and tell your stories of "Glory Days".

I think the rings have more meaning here as well since that is the first time UT Men had made it to the Elite 8 before in the NCAA Tournament. So in a sense these rings represent UT Mens Basketball history.

Congrats VOLS and hopefully we'll see many more Elite 8 rings and maybe a Final 4 ring very soon.

I doubt WE just decided "Hey, let's go get us some rings for making the Elite Eight." Traditionally teams have done it in the past. Bro, they make rings for the Music City bowl in Nashville every year. They may as well make rings for winning rivalry games.

Baylor had Elite Eight rings made last season also. Seems to be something the players expect and something recruits take notice of. Aggies on texags.com seem to think the ring idea is bush league...so in other words the rings really work.:bow2:

This was pointless on both sides. If someone feels that rings are reserved for championships, that's cool and I respect that. If someone feels that they want to celebrate something that has never happened in school history before with a ring, that's fine too.

+1

I can see both sides of the argument, really.

this is the difference in uk basketball/ut basketball (and the same can be inversely said for ut football/uk bball). what ya'll consider a great run we consider an epic failure.

Anyone with half a brain could tell you the difference between the two bball programs. Clearly your intent was to take a subtle shot at our program. We get it....

Yeah, because during the year that Gillispie had us sitting at home for the month of March with our finger up our arse, I'm sure UK fans would have scoffed at an elite 8 had we made it there.

I hear your point, but its slightly overkill.

no, if i was taking a shot i wouldn't have said the same was true about utfball/ukfball

i should have prefaced with the word historically, my bad

Kat... you have no idea what you are talking about. Your argument is weaker than the last knee you worked on before the first treatment.... I'm just messin, everything UK does with that talent short of a NC is an epic failure... unless they keep firing 3's because that is a recipe for success with all Cal coached teams... historically :)

They are a great commemoration for the greatest team in school history who were lead by the greatest basketball coach in school history.

Those are not diamonds. NCAA limits ring value to 300 or 400 bucks per player.

And they also say "ELITE 8" on them so I'm still confused on how we are supposedly acting like champions like some of the women on their period are saying we are in this thread.

LawVol just stirred up all the arguments on this thread by saying (something to the effect of) "we shouldn't get rings because we didn't win any kind of championship." Obviously, we all know this, and most of us probably feel like they deserved the rings anyway. There are always a few posters (sometimes including myself) who just want to go against the populace, or are just flat out against it. The arguments lasted so long because LawVol refused to say to anyone "I understand the rings only say 'Elite 8' on them, but I still don't think we should have gotten them because we didn't win any kind of a championship." This is why I stress the importance of being clear in your posts, especially if you're looking for trouble.

Give me a break. If a person was literate, they would have known exactly what I was saying.

I'm going to have to disagree with you because there were at least 3 people who did not know what you were trying to say. That's why it went on for so long.

I've stated my point about 15 times in this thread. If you haven't figured it out yet, stop and consider what that says about you.

I just found this post. If you reword it a little, it shows how you can be unclear:

"My point is so vaguely stated that even after 15 times, no one know what I'm trying to say.

That's exactly what's being done. Rings are synonymous with championships not celebrating being eliminated.

Yep. That's just so unclear. I see what you're saying now.
