You mean this season where they were an overtime away from yet another final four with a roster that has 1 nba player on it (patrick young) while kansas was getting its rear end handed to them by vcu with a squad that has several future nba guys.

I never claimed Self was a great coach.

Back to the point. How many seasons ended in the Not In Tourney between the NC and this past season? I forgot.

Also, Boynton, Walker and Macklin will at least get a look by the league. In addition to Boynton, Walker, Macklin and Young you guys fielded a veteran squad including the SEC POY(apparently) in Parsons and Tyus, who wasn't a slouch.

Don't act like Eddie had a bare cupboard to work with this season or the last few for that matter.

I'll take 1 National Championship and 7 Conference Championships in 8 years over 2 National Championships and 4 Conference Championships in 15 years.

Self is at kansas. It's a different deal.

Everyone who coaches at kansas wins the conference every year. Nothing new there.

There has been no coach have greater success at a football school with the exception of tom izzo

Florida isn't a basketball big boy and that has to be taken into consideration, imo.

Self wouldn't sniff jack squat at florida

Macklin has no knees and walker and boynton are so small they have to sit in a booster seat inside a motor vehicle

You are correct, because he did so terrible at Oral Roberts, Tulsa, and Illinois before Kansas.

Since the SEC has been so much harder to win than the Big 12 lately.

Everyone who coaches at kansas wins the conference every year. Nothing new there.

Roy Williams was there from 1988 to 2003 and won the conference tournament 4 times. Self has won it 5 times since then.

Pretty big exception. And this matters why? Pretty sure Ohio State's football team didn't get in the way of a 32-2 season.

Florida isn't a basketball big boy and that has to be taken into consideration, imo.

Neither was UConn pre-Calhoun or Arizona pre-Olson. The difference is that Florida STILL isn't (and will never be under Donovan) because they have a hard time consistently making it into a 68-team tournament.

Self took Tulsa as far as Donovan took Florida this year. Might wanna rethink that part.

If it is taking just coaching into consideration, Billy Donovan is superior. You won't get much debate in that from any respected basketball poster.

IIRC, you've made a big deal that Kevin O'Neill's NBA coaching experience meant jack. Playing both sides of the fence now are we?

Except one had two respectable GMs/Franchises come after him while the other had the Raptors and their moronic GM.

I think Self is a habitual under-achiever.
He's had a lot of talent to only have one final four.

I also don't think Cal is there until he gets a championship.

I think Donovan should certainly be considered. People say he rode a team to 2 championships but why should he be penalized for recruiting good players then coaching them to a title. Isn't that what you are suppose to do as a coach?

Someone still doesn't like Billy because he turned yall down multiple times.

I prayed to Christ, Allah, Buddha and Hitler that the Munster would stay as far away from Lexington as possible. Furthermore, the idea of you making any reference to respected posters is laughable, when you yourself have Zero respect around this joint.

in no particular order

kansas
duke
kentucky
north carolina
connecticut
michigan state

name another program that has been a better basketball program than florida since donovan took over other than these programs.

all things considered.......wins, final fours, national championships, etc, etc, etc.

then, consider that florida doesn't bother to even fill the damn arena and that ......it's F-L-O-R-I-D-A.

yeah, i would call donovan elite

And, Billy D took over a Florida squad that was two years removed from the Final Four.

Bill Self took over a KU team that was coming off the heels of a National Championship loss.

Their situations were not as drastically different as it would seem.

Billy D has been at UF for twice as long, yet, has half the hardware (and, earned most of it with one set of five guys).

i was there. i know what florida had. there is a reason rick pitino told donovan not to take the florida job.

florida's talent level when donovan got there makes the tennessee baseball squad look good.

lon kruger left an empty cupboard. we started a walk on cancer survivor against the kentucky team that should have been playing the chicago bulls that season.

And, his talent level the other years that UF has failed to make the tourney is whose fault?

he missed the tourney his first two years at florida.

then, they went to 9 straight tourney's, with 3 final fours and two national titles.

they missed the tourney two years when the back to back squad left and made two straight tourneys since, almost making it back to the final four.

so, since he built the program he has made the tourney 11 of 13 seasons.

in case you missed it, connecticut, syracuse, north carolina, and kentucky all missed the tournament in the last 10 years.

he accomplished this at a school that made the ncaa tournament 5 times in the history of the school before his arrival.
