Elite Men's Basketball Coaches

in no particular order

kansas
duke
kentucky
north carolina
connecticut
michigan state

name another program that has been a better basketball program than florida since donovan took over other than these programs.

all things considered.......wins, final fours, national championships, etc, etc, etc.

then, consider that florida doesn't bother to even fill the damn arena and that ......it's F-L-O-R-I-D-A.

yeah, i would call donovan elite

And I still don't consider him elite.

It's quite hard to do when other than the three teams that made the finals only two have advanced past the second round of the NCAA tournament.

you know if you take away all the years the patriots went to the super bowl, bill belichik's playoff record really isn't that great

Self can continually taken teams deeper into the tournament than billy d and every stop. He may not win it all but he's on average going to go farther than donovan. If anything the argument should be self shouldn't be included more than donovan should.

If you even want to try to compare donovan to the other four I listed then go ahead.

Donovan is a great coach but he's not elite. I doubt many outside of Gainesville would even attempt to argue otherwise.

they missed the tourney two years when the back to back squad left and made two straight tourneys since, almost making it back to the final four

After Self's team won the title and his guys went pro (Rush, Chalmers, and Arthur), he went out and won another Big XII Championship (and a handful of Coach of the Year awards).

I think Roy has proven at UNC that he does belong in that category.

Bill Self, IMO, still needs a few more years and another National Title. He will certainly be tested next year.

I think Roy Williams is the most overrated coach in the country. My goodness, look at where he's coached: Kansas and UNC. He's had a pick of the best players for quite some time.

Yes and as has been said, it's kansas.

At kansas, ky, nc, etc, etc, you can replace 5 guys going to the nba with 5 guys going to the nba.

You can't do that at florida.

Billy rode a team that MHF could coach to the title game. The titles are his only significant argument, but IMO he is in that next tier of coaches right beneath those 5 or 6.

BS. Same could be said for John Wooden. Actually it couldn't. Wooden had a lot more talent than everyone.

Donovan is elite. Just as elite as Roy Williams in my book

Just look at the people who are saying Billy D isn't elite. One a butt-hurt Kentucky fan, and another that thinks Kevin O'Neill is a great coach.

Please link to where I said O'Neill is a great coach. You must be confusing me with someone at the frat party you saw Kiffin at or one of your daddy-in-laws employees.

:lolabove: Sounds like you keep up with me well. Even hinting that Kevin O'Neill is a good coach is laughable.

Especially well since I've basically determined that you are full of BS.

I'm still waiting to hear details about the frat party Kiffin was at. You've never supplied them.

Maybe you should've come up to Knoxville. It was no secret, but apparently it is to you. It must be orgasmic for you to know that Kevin O'Neill and Lane Kiffin are at the same school.

Billy Donovan can't do that at a beautiful school that is just a short drive from beaches, bikinis, and palm trees.

FYP

Florida wasn't exactly a historical powerhouse in football until Spurrier took over. He was able to convince NFL talent and speed to choose Gainesville over places like South Bend and Norman.

I really could care less about Kiffin. He was here. He's gone. It was a fun season. He got his salary doubled. Can't say I blame him for going. We're probably all better off he is. I have my reasons for liking O'Neill and will leave it at that.

bill self is one of the few basketball coaches in america that can have a roster with 6 future nba players and get consistently knocked out by bucknell, bradley, northern iowa and vcu.

Tournament wins aren't the only thing that makes a coach great. And at least he consistently makes the tournament.

We get it. You think Donovan is better than Self. Congrats.

I guess you and I measure success differently. You measure it in how far a team gets in the tournament, regardless of whether or not they win the championship. I measure success in hardware. Bill Self wins a major conference championship almost every single year; and, if he won one NCAA championship every ten years, that would be more than acceptable by me, as well as most of the KU faithful.

I saw a record of the Big 12 standings since he took the helm at Kansas a while back. Absolutely unbelievable how much he has dominated that conference.

A lot of that has to do with the next dominant program is coached by Rick Barnes. Coaching in that conference took another big hit with Haith replacing Anderson. No doubt a good run, though.
