The ship has not sunk. Look at the run we made in the NCAA's. I don't think ASU was impressive, and their genetics and style of play was tailor made for a Tennessee smack down. But we beat em soundly and they were a 2 seed. OSU was an impressive win as well. We got it together in the NCAA's and were very close to the final 4.

It seems like the team finally got it together. Does Holly get no credit for that? The regular season was repulsive, but the NCAA's for us was pretty good considering where we started.

Next year should be very interesting. I bet we start the season about #15 and if we play like we did in the NCAA's, will be a top 6-7 team by the end of the year. Given all that SC loses, I would not be surprised to see us and Mississippi State finish ahead of the next year. They may have A'ja but we have Diamond, Mercedes and T'ea. Not to mention I think Nared is going to be terrific next year too.

With regards to Elzy, no idea what to make of it. She may be on the short list for HC jobs, but she does not have one yet and to leave like she did smells fishy. Something else is going on. She may love Tennessee, but there's more to the story than has been reported.

No chance. They lose Mitchell, Imobviah and Sessions, but get Allisha Gray and Kaela Davis to replace them. Those two plus the inside game of Wilson and Coates is far, far better than anything the SEC has to offer. They will have multiple outside threats to go along with their dominant inside game. No team would be stupid enough to dare them to shoot from outside the way Syracuse was able to in the tournament.

The only way SC doesn't plow through the SEC is if Bianca Cuevas is a complete trainwreck at PG. At this point, she's about the same as Te'a Cooper, so it's not out of the question to expect that she will be more capable come next year.

I respect Kyra, but I think the team needs a big overhaul of asst coaches. After 4 yrs of Jolette Law, our guards are a hot mess and she's not reeling in any recruits from the Midwest. ANd I don't know about Lockwood either...Candace gave him credit for helping her, but I don't think he's done much to improve either Izzy or Mercedes. And I haven't seen him bring in the posts we need either. Good luck to Kyra as HC elsewhere.

As for SC, I expect Gray will spend a lot of time at PG, where she will excel.

You're nuts if you think that. Holly Dooley Warlick will never get it done...even if she had a Breanna Stewart. She should leave NOW!!! BTW take off your orange colored glasses.

One name to keep an eye on to replace Elzy is....Pillow at MTSU a former lady Vol who was a post player....cheap and won't challenge Holly like Elzy probably did

Maybe Holly can hire Luigi as an assistant. Offer him three million. It is the only thing that will save this program.

People are ecstatic that we "made a run" in the NCAAs ..... I saw the games..... we lack in the fundamentals..... we are not practicing adequately..... or not practicing on the right things..... it is like building a structure.... you have to start with a strong foundation that will not fail.... this is not the story of our basketball team.

Now she needs to part ways with Dean(I personally would get Alex fuller she has done a damn good job coaching post players at MTSU and most recently ole miss) and Coach Law(anyone at this point) find someone who can REALLY COACH and RECRUIT to take elzys place and then warlick needs to retire. At that point I think we're good.

Every change in staff is an opportunity to hire someone who can offer a fresh perspective and add skills that will make the team stronger. I'm sure all UT fans wish Kyra Elzy well and hope Holly capitalizes on the chance to bring in an assistant who can upgrade the offense and help develop players. It should be a desirable job, especially with all the talent coming back. Hope we reach high, instead of looking for a bargain.

I' thought I'd re-post it and not add anything to it.

They do need a new approach to practice. (( A practice coach, who can push the right buttons)) And someone who can see how to coordinate an offense to the strengths of the composition of players.

With Diamond, Meme and Russell they have a classic set up for a triangle offense. Dunbar could be the Steve Kerr (The weakside 3-pt outlet) and all we need is to develop a Horace Grant to clean up the triangles miscues.

Perfect for this group

Was Elzy the recruiting coordinator?

Also, who was/is the No. 1 assistant on this staff? You should have a comer in the position--someone who has chops and the potential to be a head coach sooner rather than later. Elzy might have fit that description but i don't think she was the No. 1. That's how you build a coaching tree: you hire crack assistants, some leave for head gigs and have the potential to return--or they have the potential to take over the head job if the veteran retires or gets sacked. PS never really created a good coaching tree because her assistants all stayed too long--see Warlick, and DeMoss was the No. 1 for a long time before eventually leaving for a head gig. Neither Law nor Lockwood are ideal No. 1s, that's for sure. The truth is, we need a top-to-bottom staff overhaul.

If Elzy was the recruiting coordinator, I have to believe there was tension about the debacle this year--HW might have been displeased. But then Elzy might have been equally displeased with the clusterf--k that was this team this year, and was probably not exactly thrilled with the entire situation. I suspect too that HW is a rather insecure head coach; in fact, that has been obvious since day 1. Lockwood and Law are probably loyal to her--because nobody is beating down the door to hire away either of them--but Elzy was different, and so perhaps we had one ambitious coach with potential on a veteran staff that's not been doing a good job. That might have been a volatile dynamic that precipitated this, and surely the recruiting situation was another factor. What was a weak staff overall is now even weaker, unless Elzy just wasn't good as a recruiter. But recruiting cuts both ways. The program needs a strong recruiting coordinator--and the recruiting coordinator needs a program that is going well and thus attractive to recruits.

It was a mutual decision. Kyra wants to be a Head Coach, and is currently on several short lists.

This gives Holly the ability to reach out and interview the best candidates before they are hired at other schools, and also gives Kyra the ability to interview without having to still keep allegiance to Tennessee.

Kyra loves Tennessee.

Can you comment on this article.

Lady Vols, assistant Kyra Elzy agree to part ways

Is Dan stirring the pot?

I don't know why Holly would go the trouble of saying as was quoted in the article "Kyra and I spoke this afternoon and agreed that it would be best if we parted ways," Warlick said in school release. "I have the utmost respect for Kyra as a person and as a coach. We have been friends for a long time and our friendship will remain strong." That statement reads like someone being let go as compared to you saying this is about her moving on to a head coaching position. If thats truly the case you wait on her to get hired and then the above quoted statement isn't even necessary. Is she that bad with optics???

Really folks, as long as Holly is THE coach at the top...... does anyone really think changing assistants is going to help/?? Well i guess maybe if it is believed that the assistants were the problem..... Personally I think it is akin to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
