The NIT is no gimme, unc was there 2 years ago didn't win it, Kentucky also there a few years ago with the drunk billy g and lost before finals as well. But no matter this team has proven that they belong playing with the big teams and CCM has them absolutely on the right track! A little more consistency which will come! GBO

Shawn said he will do a final look over tomorrow am and really look deep into all the numbers one last time. Said he could possible make a change to the bracket at that point...

Anybody who thinks an NIT run is better than just one game in the NCAAT, go ask the players which one they'd rather have. Ask Coach Martin which one he'd rather have.

This "winning the NIT would be better" talk is beyond silly.

so last years ncaat loss was better for out program than winning the nit would have been. you ask the team that.

Revisionist history, but if had won last night I would 100% guarantee our tourney bid no matter what happened today.

zj I agree with a lot of your post, but, if we won last night we would still have had to beat vandy, beating georgia would not have done it because of our rpi. It may be fun for some posters to think we still have a chance, but, its a pipe dream, nothing more.

For one, you're assuming we win it all or at least make it to the NIT finals, which is a silly assumption to make.

Two, there's pretty much no concrete evidence that some long run in the NIT means greater success in the future. South Carolina won it twice and still sucked.

And three, if I have to explain why one and done in the NCAAT is better than winning the NIT, then you're clearly a casual college basketball fan.

in other words you cant:good!:

Getting blown out in NCAA still gets you on tv that folks watch. Noone outside fans of 2 schools in game tune in and watch NIT games. Kids like to be seen. Plus its fun having your name on all the brackets.Plus its too easy to say if you are going to lose in 1st round. All thes kids want is the oppurtunity to make a run for a National Title.

The NCAA tournament is one of the most exciting events in sports. Nothing tops having your name called on Selection Sunday. I can guarantee you the team and university would rather be attend the NCAAT than go to the unexciting and unnoticed NIT.

it wouldnt suprise me if they did make it bc the bubble is so weak and it wouldnt suprise me if they looked at the tn olemiss game as a play in game.i think the sec gets 5 in and i dont think miss st gets in.

i'm talking about the opportunity to make us a better team with more game and practice time. your talking about what people think about us. sure going to the ncaat gets your name out there. i still remember how people talked about us getting our a$$ kicked.

my response was to the statement.. it would be better to go one and done in the ncaat vs winning the nit. not goning to the nit vs going to the ncaat.

I would seriously consider traveling to watch the vols play in the NCAA tournament if they are selected. It would be a blast and I can't even imagine what it would be like if they won.

I really don't think we're in. Even in good years, we're gotten lower seeds than we all thought. We needed to win last night and couldn't do it. I'll hold out a small bit of hope though. Maybe UT will get lucky.

Check out the comment and response from Shawn in his 7pm update bracketology. UT fan asking whether we should get in and references the way we lost the Ole Miss game. Shawn gives his take on the blown call. Gives some perspective on how non-UT fans might have viewed it. SIAP.

With the way the bubble is? We are still on some brackets with the loss. The bubble is awful this year. This is not a normal year.

I can completely understand that idea. I'm pretty sure we won't get it in, but it's still nice to read we have a chance.
