NCAA tournament decides the NC. In theory, the 68 teams that make it would be the top 68 teams in the country. Winning the NIT would put you at 69th. Now, there is no arguing that 69 is a great position, unfortunately, just not in basketball.

No, because winning your conference tourney gets you an automatic bid. I don't believe that a 16 seed is going to be a better team than a bubble team that gets a 1 seed in the NIT and wins the thing. Bubble teams typically get 13 seeds, treating them in the 49-52 range.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this has only happened two times in the history with the current format. However, I think it will happen this year.

i'm talking about the opportunty to make us a better team with more game and practice time. your talking about what people think about us. sure going to the ncaat gets your name out there. i still remember how people talked about us getting our a$$ kicked.

If you make the ncaat you can practice until the tournament is over even if you lose. Recruits watch ncaat, they don't watch nit games.

Obviously you missed my attempt at humor.

Honestly, rankings mean jack squat to me. I'd rather make the NCAAT than the NIT. People can argue all they want about how winning the NIT would be better. I call BS. When a coach is sitting in a recruit's living room, throwing out you made it into the NCAAT is much more impressive than telling him you won the NIT. Being in the NIT just means you weren't good enough to make it into the real tournament. Winning the NIT doesn't change that.

Anybody who thinks an NIT run is better than just one game in the NCAAT, go ask the players which one they'd rather have. Ask Coach Martin which one he'd rather have.

This "winning the NIT would be better" talk is beyond silly.

"Elizabeth honey, i'm coming to join you"
We agree on something.:)

Wow homie! I was wondering would slide a NIT is 69 in.

so last years ncaat loss was better for out program than winning the nit would have been. you ask the team that.

Yes, why is that so hard for you to understand? Saying you went to the NCAAT sells the program; winning the NIT isn't bringing in the players genius.

my response was to the statement.. it would be better to go one and done in the ncaat vs winning the nit. not goning to the nit vs going to the ncaat.

Getting to the NCAAT is a better accomplishment than winning the NIT. Again, ask any team across the country, any coach what he'd rather have. Not one player or coach worth a crap would ever suggest they'd rather have an NIT championship over an NCAAT bid.

Some people don't get it bro. It's like would you rather be the best player on a minor leauge baseball team or the worst on a major leauge roster. Cream of crop wants to compete at highest levels. These folks that think winning the NIT are probably those kids who couldn't make their little leauge team so tried out for kids that are 3 years younger just to say they won.

It will be the NIT. Maybe we will get a rematch against Ole Miss. Hope they don't choke again.

Not to be a negavol... but do we really deserve it this year?

Won 8 of our last 10 games and finished 2nd in the SEC. I would say yes we deserve it. THis was a completely different team once Stokes came on board. We would give any team a run for their money in the NCAA tourney because of our defense.

n i t bound. anyone hear of joe lunardi ? 99 % right. he says we are OUT !! we need to be playing. what is the use of going the ncaa and losing in the first round, when we can go to the nit and maybe win the thing !!!!

Win the right to be called the 69th best team in the country or make the NCAA tournament......are you kidding me?

The Vols would have an equal chance of being ranked in the pre season top 25 in football this year to us making the NCAA tourney. You can't lose the first game of the SEC tourney if you go in as a 50-50 bubble team. Not rational.
