No hire they could have made would have dropped to the level that fans like the OP deserve.

While I am disappointed with the way things apparently went.... I am far more disappointed at the way many supposed fans have behaved throughout. They are a MUCH larger part of the problem than they want to believe. If this hire really could purge some of these people from the fanbase.... it would be a success for that reason alone.

So why bring in Strong or Gundy if they are all playing "inferior" defenses? Also you do realize that the point of conferences is generally to group together colleges that are on the same talent level.

give the guy a shot, if u want to be mad, be mad at hart and cheeks...and from reading your post you really don't have a clue do a little research about coach jones and u will see he has a winning record,his players love him and hes got the fire and drive to win...with the right staff this guy could bring us back to the top!! so either back him or take a hike and follow franklin or saban!

p.s. your comment about dooley signature win kinda makes me laugh for the fact jones was 2-1 against everyone dream boy charlie strong...take it for what it's worth!

If Gruden really wanted to be here, he'd be here. I think Butch Jones will turn out to be a good coach and a good hire. I don't know if he can get us a NC, but I'm certain that he can at least have us winning again. The more I learn about the guy, the more I like him. I don't think his hiring was a knee-jerk reaction as it is coming across in the media. I believe he was on UT's radar the whole time.

Last, my biggest problem wiht the hire was the process...I think Dave hart and company tried to make the process to open and to public. I would be interested in knowing how many offers Gruden, Gundy, etc. actually get each year at this time...there are coaches out there that everyone just is going to reach out to...you have to. My problem is Hart made it to public, so UT looked like it was missing on every person they called.

We've been unfairly mocked precisely because too much information got out. Inquiries should be done quietly, so that when you call Mora or his agent and ask if he might be interested, if he says no, you say, fine, and move on. When that gets public it is interpreted as Mora rejects the Vols. The process was flawed--and all the idiotic Gruden hysteria made us look like a bunch of goobers, TOO (two o's, man).

I am neutral on this hire. I am not going to support it or bash it. We have just been let down so much by recent up and comers that I want to see results before i endorse another one.

florida won two national titles with the spread---and kicks our ass with it every year. I'm fine with the spread--though you either are committed to it or you aren't. It means getting a different type of QB, and I'm totally fine with that, too.

1. Ok the signature win crack was funny, mainly because we've spent the last two seasons talking **** about how we destroyed them lol.

2. We should all relax-we wanted change, we got it. We wanted them to hurry and get a coach, they did. We wanted a HC with a winning recored, he has.

3. If we are all being honest, if you had told us that at the end of this we would be hiring the HC from Cincy (when it could be ARGUED that Kentucky, Auburn, and Arky may have hired better), we would have all been disappointed. But that doesn't mean it can't work out in the long run.

I hold nothing against Butch Jones.... seems like a good guy and I would have taken the job were I him as well.

I will as always support my team, the players and the new coach, and will of course hope this new hire works out for us all. I will not support any AD who thinks this was a move up to improve our program. It may work out, but we are by dam Tennessee, and we deserve the best.

This proud program once stood out in the NCAA as one of the elite and première of the county, today we are a head scratcher, and a curiosity. We are brought to this lowly state not by a fan base, or players or even a coach. We come to this lonely spot by an incompetent former Ad and now a former Bama, and former Gator troll...who has created an atmosphere where less than perfection is not only accepted but tolerated and now expected by our fan base.The same fan base who only a few short years ago dared to dream we could be the BEST in the nation...because we were. Today we simply fall in line as understudies of the Bama's, Ga's, and LSU's of the world ask ourselves why we every believed to start with.

How are the might fallen from their former state.... I lay it all at the feet of the Ad and Chancellor now presiding on the once “mighty hill”

My stand as a Grudenite was based on a simple belief, one that says we COULD, SHOULD and WOULD be Great again. Was I believeing something that did not happen, Yes I was, and today I wear my banner not in shame, but in pride..... of not a coach who turned us down, but of a dream of excellence that in my heart lives on till I breathe my last breath.

VOL FOREVER….Go Vols

It's done get over, join in and support, or get out. It's beyond belief folks immediately start bashing. This hire fits the state of the program. Give the man a chance. He wanted to be here. I'm in 100 percent.

UT could have had filet mignon but instead the AD has forced horse meat on us. I for one will not support this Administration nor will I support this football hire! Frankly, I question Dave Hart's motive; his ego proceeds him in a room and his buffoonery rivals that of the recently dismissed Derek Dooley!

Wake-up Vol fans.... Dave Hart just hired the guy who was Derek Dooley's signature win!!! This is simply unreal - Vol fans we do not have take this laying down. We must let the UT Administration, the UT Athletic Department, and any boosters who supported this hire know that we do not support them nor this hire!!!

The hiring of Butch Jones is simply an EPIC FAIL.

I think we got a better coach than Ky for sure. Stoops is an unknown quantity as he's never been a head coach. The Malzahn hire was a done deal before Cheese Nips was fired. Malzahn was up to his ears in questionable recruiting at Arkansas and at Auburn. He'll have them on probation in no time. The Wisconsin coach may do OK but he's in the SEC west.

If you don't like what I have to say you do not have to be here. You can gloat that JG wasn't hired but you really have no idea what transpired in the last 24 hours. You don't have to believe me but soon enough the information will be brought to light and you will not be happy. Your AD who made a hire that according to you is a "solid" hire. Tennessee deserved a great hire not a solid hire. This AD did this deal under the cover of night and gave boosters and fans alike a big FU. Hart will not be here long prob no mre than 6 months but we will be stuck with a coach that got beat by Dooley. Butchy is a third tier coach. And you are already seeing how strong his staff will be. He hired his own recruiting coordinator. Well heck that's a home run!!! Right not at all.

about tired of whiners and complainers. dooleys gone. we hired a football coach who has actually won games and championships. can he win in the sec. who knows, but i do know he deserves a chance and i am behind him. first he has to put a top notch staff together then close out recruiting. there are still some great players that can be reeled in. these babies that call themselves fans make us all look bad nationally. coach jones has not done one thing wrong. stay off him until he does at least.

I agree that this whole coaching search process has been made of fail. Don't misconstrue this as bashing Coach BJ - with initials like that, he better darn well be good at what he does and have a very thick skin. I wish him and his family well personally, and hope he proves all his doubters - most certainly including me - completely wrong. But I have a sad feeling that after next year (I'm saying 4 - 8 right now) and the year after (maybe 7 - 6 if we're lucky) we'll be looking down the barrel of another coach on deathwatch and people will be dreaming of another home-run hire that probably won't pan out.

Makes me sad to be a Volunteer fan.

As boro as said if I say what I know, then posters will just flame away like they have during this whole coaching search. The fact is Tennessee could have and should have had JG however instead we have Butch Jones. Not blaming him for taking the job that he was offered.

The fault is not with him rather Dave Hart. An AD who had no intention of being at UT for the long term. There are so many things wrong with this hire and jones does not even meet the criteria that Hart laid out as his requirements for the next coach of the Vols. There have been very few coaches that make a successful jump from the Big East to a power conference. I think that a poster listed two coaches out of seven or eight coaches who were able to duplicate the results that had in that weak conference.

Knowing what I know I cannot and will not support the actions that Hart has taken. That is the only way that I can show my disdain for all things Hart. To do otherwise, would in my opinion be acquiescing to the subversive tactics that Hart has used in this situation. I guarantee you that Hart is convinced that Vol fans will go on like it is just another day and that we will take whatever we are given without questioning the hire or the methods or the back room bs that had occurred.

Jones is not the best that UT could do but Many Vol fans are doing exactly what Hart expected... They are accepting third best when they could have had the best. Hopefully the big $$$$$ boosters will send a message to Hart! The media has already begun talking about how good this hire is. I guess it is true that if u say something enough people will believe whatever it is. And Jones staff will not be all stars. Tiny Richardson did not even know who Butch Jones was!
