Epic Qb Battle 2013

Why is everyone so high on Dobb's? I know he's smart..... Does he have a strong ARM? Mobile? Was he just ranked really low or what? Is he a pro or duel threat? It say's pro on his profile... I've only seen his Jr highlights so maybe his Sr film shows more of his capabilities.. don't know much about him so just wondering why everyone's very excited about this guy. Thanks for any input.

The starting job will go to Worley or Peterman this year. The edge is to Worley. However, I am excited that we have 3 freshmen QBs who will grow up with all of the excellent freshman/sophomore receivers for the next 3 years. The downside is the OL is gone after this year and talent and depth of the defense is a big concern. An elite RB next year would be great with the crop of receivers and QBs. I just hope CBJ can manage the OL this year to give reps to the backups in preparation for 2014.

I believe I read somewhere that he has 4.3 or 4.4 speed. That is elite enough to get him on the field somewhere if he doesn't start at QB this year.

Compared to what? What does Peterman have to do with Worley's physical attributes?

Worley played well when he was forced into action. That doesn't mean that he fits the offense that Jones wants to run. Peterman fits his offense much more than worley does, or at least his past offense.

We don't know if jones will change up his offense to fit the personnel, but looking at this recruiting of Dobbs, it seems unlikely.

I can understand that as well. Good point.

I don't care much about the battle or who wins, just as long as someone is a clear cut winner.

I don't want to see a 2 QB system.

Am I the only one who is completely stoked to see the qb battle we have coming up? I mean I've never seen one so up in the air with seemingly 4 different guys all with a chance to take the reins. I think we've got a pretty darn strong group of guys and the competition will only make each of them better. In fact i think these four guys have the potential to be one of the strongest groups of ut qbs ( across the board mind you) that ive seen. No theres no proven star yet but i think all have that capability. My prediction is peterman starts, Worley transfers and the two freshmen battle for the two spot.

I just hope 1 guy wins the job solidly, and plays well. We don't need a qb controversy.

We have four QB on scholly and I think I heard the QB from Josh Smith's HS became a preferred walk-on. Could be, and probably am wrong on this but I wouldn't be surprised to see Worley transfer. From the games I've seen him play, I just don't see him running this offense.

I think Peterman will surprise a lot of people. Worley should be given a fair shot though. It may take some time for the best option to surface. I can't expect Dobbs or Ferguson to play this upcoming year until this staff gives us reason to believe they will.

I think Butch's offense is going to be much more about short throws to players in space than the QB running the ball 15 times a game, which in my opinion Worley will excel at and will have a great year.

I'm so confused why people think Peterman is going to start over Worley. Worley has an excellent arm, some wheels, and his accuracy is above average at least.

Now that we have a talented staff that has won games in the past he will blossom into a great QB that we were all begging for when Bray starting being Bray. Heck...some wanted Simms to play over Bray at certain times during his tenure.

All I'm saying is that a QB that throws for over 16,000 yards and for over 160 TD's and one that won the National Gatorade Player of the Year award is not something to write off.

Is it good to have quality back ups, absolutly, but to completely write him off and assume that Peterman, whom has never seen the field yet, is a little premature for my tastes.

I'm counting on #14 as I have counted on that number before, we all know who that was, to lead us back to be a respectful team that opponents have to prepare more for.

JMHO :hi:

Probably because CBJ recruited peterman heavily so I think everyone assumes he will be Butch's guy. Also we've seen Worley play and it has not been impressive. Like at all.

Um... Worley has an average, at best, arm and isn't mobile at all. His best attribute is his accuracy and touch on passes.
I thought so, too...but in one game later this season, he came in and after the commentator had just finished gushing about Bray's arm strength, he made a statement about Worley not being as bad as some had perceived.

I think they may have had something on the sideline to measure the MPH on throws, cause the commentator seemed to allude to it, saying "that was just a 55mph throw." Anyhow, Worley put some mustard on one of his passes, and the commentator mentioned that it was above 50, which is usually considered NFL arm strength.

I think the main reason we took Dobbs and invited Charlie High to be preferred walk-on, was because the staff may expect Peterman to win the starting job this fall = Worley transferring so he has 2 yrs to go where he can start.

If I'm not mistaken Butch recruited Woulard too, but then didn't when he came to UT, so that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I believe that you HAVE to put what you've seen of Worley into the context of the situations he was put in. I could be swayed by the Peterman enthusiasts a little more if he'd ever stepped foot on a college field. But to say he will win the starting job as a RS freshman based on....nothing essentially is hard for me to digest. But I also realize that I could be wrong. Maybe Peterman will be the next Manziel.

Barring any injury, I really can't see our starter being anybody besides Worley or Peterman. Our freshman qbs are talented, but Worley and Peterman will have had much more time in the system when the season rolls around as well as much more time to build chemistry with Croom, Pig, Bowles, Dallas, Harris, etc.

Unless there are some injuries or Worley and Peterman both turn out to be awful, I think our freshmen will and should redshirt. IMO the real QB battle to watch will be next spring unless Worley or Peterman are lights out this year.
