Did anyone besides me take issue with some of the negativity towards UT during Saturday night's broadcast? Mike Patrick seemed bent on highlighting UT's lack of a running game and gave almost no credit to the defense, special teams, and passing game. Every first down runner or receiver seemed to only "pick up a few". They also claimed Steve Spurrier beat Fulmer with three different teams...he did not (Johnny Majors was coach when Duke beat us in Knoxville in '88). Svelle Newton was pretty much cast as the Tim Brown of the SEC. Lou Holtz picks SC consistently against UT. What's going on?

Lou Holtz blows Arkansas while being hit from behind by ND, and he still manages to give a reach around to S. Carolina. He always has and always will, espn needs to fire him.

Another "ESPN hates us thread." Wonderful. They hate us so much they've showcased us on their network three times this year. I can't believe they'd do something so awful.

I was fed up with seeing the Stat of Fulmer going 8-3against Spurrier, they must have run that graphic 30 times.

I don't know about firing him; it just seems to me that ESPN (although they televise UT often and make big $) consistently plays down Tennessee wins and highlights their losses and even "close" wins over SC and AL. I'd personally like to see a color analyst from the South, but Todd Blackledge does a decent job. Mike Patrick? I don't care for him...

Simple solution: don't go 3-8 against a coach. You won't have to worry about the graphic then.

They show Tennessee because they're a big audience program -- not because they like them. Remember how they over-hyped Charles Woodson in 1997 for the Heisman in the last 4 weeks of the season? They pretty much won the award for the guy.

From Vol Network saturday night....

SEC wins.

135-Fulmer
134-Spurrier

Really nothing to do with the hatefest, but still interesting...

The only reason they show Spurrier's record against Fulmer is because he's the only guy still around to show it against! The other SEC coaches are gone from that era. Now...they're starting to show Urban Meyer's 'dominance'! lol

I am just glad the Lou "sounds like he is speaking jibberish" Holts had to eat crow.

Mike Patrick was the same against Georgia...and your right, Blackledge is a good analyst. MP obviously dislikes UT (no matter what the money and his bosses dictate that he covers).

I have noticed this too, especially with CBS sportscasters (tv's worst IMO) The color commentator always portrays the Vols as the bad guy antagonists that need to be beaten. It's annoying as hell.:realmad:

I made similar comments about how the CBS announcers tried to malign Florida at the end of the UGA game and how all of the announcers on these broadcasts are trying to generate interest and controversy by making up criticism if they have to in order to keep people tuned in.

Face it, the UT fans are going to watch the game, anyway. So, might as well give fans of the other schools something to sink their teeth into in order to keep them on that channel.

I think the bottom line, sports fans, is that ESPN makes an effort to "balance" the chances of the underdog team by hyping up the coach, crowd, environment, food, beer, mascot, cheerleaders...I don't really blame them, but it does get annoying in the middle of a close game.

We got an ESPN hates us and ESPN won the Heisman for Woodsen in the same thread. Please give it up.

Just leave that to our conservative play calling with a lead that keeps the other team in it.

No can do, UTChatt...No way Charles Woodson was the best player in America that year. Peyton had A bad game...Woodson had A good game against Ohio State. Sorry...but I'm sticking to that one.

I'm not debating if it happened or not, I am commenting on the fact that years later some fans can't get over it.

I don't really buy into the whole ESPN hates UT theory. Living in Indiana I'm just glad ESPN is showing the game. Who cares what they say, we go on national tv and win. Enough said.
