ESPN Anti-Vol Hype?

I never said they 'hated' us. As I said in an earlier post that followed my original...ESPN announcers are paid to maintain the large audience they have at kickoff, so they hype the underdog a bit. That's all I'm saying...but it gets stale in the midst of a close game. It becomes sort of "I told you so" victory commentary before the final gun is sounded. Nice pose by the way...

I love ESPN. I live in VA and thank ESPN for carrying the games. No Jefferson Pilot (or whatever its called now) up here. And games that aren't carried by a network or ESPN, are almost always available via gameplan.

I must have heard about 10,000 times Saturday about how SC beat us last year. It just about drove me crazy. Well, we went to Columbia and knocked them around on their own turf, so now we don't have to listen to that "15-16" talk anymore.

Nov. 11 will probably be the zenith of ESPN sychophantism. With all the puckerin' Holtz, Corso and Folwer will be directing towards the posteriors of Spurrier, Meyer, Tebow, Leak and Newton I'll be not the least bit surprised to see they get lip fatigue and wind up looking like Dumb Donald from Fat Albert.

No can do, UTChatt...No way Charles Woodson was the best player in America that year. Peyton had A bad game...Woodson had A good game against Ohio State. Sorry...but I'm sticking to that one.
Uh-oh....Hat must be on a bathroom break. No way this can go unmolested.:)

That's strange. A huge portion of voters had already sent in their ballots before the UM-OSU game. Apparently they thought Woodson played some pretty good football against other teams.

He did. Eddie George happened to be one of them, pointing out succinctly that Peyton Manning couldn't win the big one against Florida and that game cost him the Heisman. I was just wondering how many 0 TD, 0 Int games that CW had that year?

Ah, yes. Statistics, the Rosetta Stone for Manningophiles. Also, the last refuge of losers.

Ok, we're way off topic here, so I'll concede that CW had a good year and was a worthy Heisman winner. It's not like Peyton Manning is the only player to be 2nd in the balloting that could have won it without anyone questioning the decision. Nice posts...I enjoyed them.

Some more Loser Stats:

1997 = Charles Woodson- 47 tak (27 solo), 9 pass def, 8 int, 36 punt ret (8.4 yds/ret, 1 TD) Heisman Trophy

1997 = Dwayne Goodrich- 45 tak (29 solo), 10 pass def, 4 int, 13 kick ret (21.7 yds/ret, 0 TD) No Heisman Consideration

1998 = Dwayne Goodrich- 47 tac (26 solo), 6 pass def, 3 int, No Heisman Consideration

(Woodson did he catch 12 passes at rec in 97, 2 pass TD)

Manning was robbed. If you don't agree, your a Mich fan or a Fool (not mutually exclusive)

Did anyone besides me take issue with some of the negativity towards UT during Saturday night's broadcast? Mike Patrick seemed bent on highlighting UT's lack of a running game and gave almost no credit to the defense, special teams, and passing game. Every first down runner or receiver seemed to only "pick up a few".

That got on my nerves. When SC picked up 2 yards, it was "blah blah blah and he still managed to pick up a couple of yards, great effort", but when Tennessee picked up 2 yards, it was "and he only got 2 yards out of that carry"....

Annoying.

More proof that Chris Fowler was right. Everyone else is dumb, it's the Manningophiles who are enlightened. Right.

Just throwing some number out there. Just my humble opinion that if an SEC QB hadn't one the year before or if Woodson played anywhere but a lovable Big 10(11) school, Manning would have won.

Soo... back to the point of this thread.

I watched the game on Tivo last night, and I was struck about what they did not say about Hefney.

Did anyone hear them mention that he was from SC?

After the punt, the comments were, "yep, good runback. He looks tired." Nice job from the ESPN research department.

I guess they were way too busy researching the question of Fulmer being Spurrier's bitch. God forbid they actually concentrate on the players.

About the time PF catches up in their head-to-head meetings, SS will be off to yet another team anyway. Thus the reason ESPN only compares him to Fulmer anyway.

I have felt like UT is one of the media darlings this year. It started after the Cal game, and they have garnered significant praise ever since. People in the media even had ready made excuses for the near debacle against Air Force.

Now the longer the season goes on, the more defenses have learned to throw at Cut and Ainge. Ainge in particular has been slow in responding.

This week and next week they have an opportunity to earn the praise. I hope they are ready for the challenge.

Did anyone not hear them late in the game when we were up a little and trying to score again and they were like oh they must be going for style points now. Are you kidding me, in the SEC, no lead is safe. I mean, it's ok when the likes of other teams like Louisville, Ohio St., and just about anyone outside the SEC blows teams out 40/50/60 to nothing, but when we try to go up two scores, we're going for style points? Give me a break.

It's funny you are quick to call people fools who disagree with you, but you can't spell words correctly. Awesome job.

I don't really buy into the whole ESPN hates UT theory. Living in Indiana I'm just glad ESPN is showing the game. Who cares what they say, we go on national tv and win. Enough said.

i'm with rocky top. living in the hoosier state i could care less what they say about the vols just as long as i get to see them on the tv every week
