ESPN hates TN. What now?

We all know ESPN hates Tennessee by now. That said, what can we as Vol fans do about it? (Protest, boycott, drawing attention to it via other media outlets, petitions, etc)??? What proof and evidence do we have to support our claim? Just thought it would be a fun thread to conjure up a plan of action and put ESPN's unfair treatment and passive-aggressive tendencies toward Tennessee to rest.

On the other hand, if you are of the belief that ESPN does not in fact hate Tennessee, feel free to flame away and bash me for my delusional stance. Either way, let's have some fun here and kill some time until the beatdown of Alabama tomorrow.

Just like any tale, some will believe and some won't. Usually, the ones who were around in 97-98 believe. Haven't watched or read ESPN since 98.

while i disagree with the statement that the sec is just a bunch of rednecks and racists......

the stadiums and schools are lily white.

finding black people in the stands (that aren't members of the players' families) is almost like trying to find bigfoot

Black people are free to purchase a ticket and attend the game just the same as white people. If they choose not to, it has nothing to do with any sort of racism or favoritism. The ticket prices are the same regardless of race and nobody is standing at the gates with a shotgun turning away African-Americans.

So what is the point exactly?

i didn't say anyone was not able to purchase a ticket.

my basic point was if some outsider came down to tuscaloosa, alabama, and didn't see very many black people in the stands or on campus when the state has a large black population, it might give an outsider the wrong impression.

especially, given the fact that because we are in the south, every school does have a few members of the fan base who embody the worst stereotypes of the south.

southerners have no problems identifying each other as a bunch of rednecks, but let a non-southerner do it and all hell breaks loose

I commend you for your stance, if you truly believe this but I just find it to be beyond ridiculous that a global entity has it out to screw over a single collegiate athletic program.

During So Cal recent struggles you could find USC fans who thought ESPN had it out for them. ...it's a lot of butthurt fans looking for something to be mad about.

Off topic: Speaking of 1997 heisman, is there any year that the three finalists had the success in the NFL that Woodson, Moss and Manning had?

i know it's become a running joke like the rod wilks thing.....

but, are there people that honestly believe espn hates tennessee?

Chris Fowler actually said, about TN playing in the national championship in 98, "This oughta make the trailor park trash happy". Had the network suspended or fired him, people would believe it was a single person issue. Given they did not and had previously pushed for C.H. over Peyton, they planted the seed then.

I typically would be inclined to agree with a seemingly logical statement, but this has been going on for the better part of two decades now.

I commend your research. Good job on that. But I wouldn't exactly consider Herschel to be poster-boy for NFL success

ESPN hates no one. They love winners and cinderella stories. We are neither.

i have been to almost every sec stadium for a game and it looks like the republican national convention.
I don't like anything about UF or it's fans. And I know of what I speak. Live in Florida now for 25 years. However I agree 100% with you on this issue.

It was definitely the case with Manning. There are a number of other things, but no need to bore anyone. Articles w/ research are on the internet to be found.

Peyton Manning's hijacked heisman trophy campaign of 1997. During midseason in 1997 Manning was the apparent and only candidate to win the trophy. Then, Lee Corso and the other minions on Gameday began their weekly campaign to get Charles Woodson into the race to make it interesting. It was disgusting as a Tennessee fan to sit and watch.

Anyone else want to chime in on other examples?

As a UT season ticket holder for many years I can truly say that there is an overwhelming caucasian element present in the stands for games.

Someone please post the Lee Corso College Gameday commercial with the pig. Not because it proves ESPN hates UT but because it is funny as hell and I can't find it online anywhere.

ESPN doesn't hate us. But not all Vol fans are good ole boys but there are plenty of them. I'm Black from Knoxville and have been to games and bars and other places Vol fans are and I have been made to feel uncomfortable several times. There are way more good fans than bad though.
