ESPN now making fun of us

It is comical to really believe that Gruden is going to coach at a collegiate level. I hope most fans are not the unrealistic clowns that post on this site so they are not crushed when Tennessee is lucky enough to get someone like Al Golden.

If you are so stupid that you think Golden will be lucky for Tennessee, then I bet you thought Dooloey was good for us too because they are basically the same person. Losers, both of them losers. What makes you think that all of a sudden coming to UT will make him a winner?

Chris Fowler has become a joke, a sort of caricature of himself. I don't think any self-respecting fan of college football takes that clown seriously.

edit: I say "has become" because, I'm sure at some point in his life (i.e. shortly after he was born), there was a chance that he wasn't a joke. All downhill from there.

It is a pipe dream. They should be laughing at us.

^^^^^^This. Gruden mania is funny and totally unrealistic. He would reel in a lot of good recruits at first, but the question is having the patience to coach college kids with 20 hours of weekly practice and to cope with the likes of Susan Martin, Jimmy Cheeks, etc. The people who are Grudenites now will be calling for his head in 2 to 3 years, but his buyout would be way too expensive to fire him.

If getting Al Golden means we are "lucky" then we have truly sunk to the bottom. Maybe we should leave the SEC and join the Big East.:banghead2:

I hope this is a f'n joke! If you are .0000001% serious you need to have your Vol card revoked! If Al Golden is hired they should string Hart up by his man parts.

Well check this out, an anonymous loser who went through the effort to create a username to post his uninformed opinion on the matter.

Only thing comical is you thinking anyone on this board cares if you even existed.

ESPN should make fun of people who thinks they have a crystal ball, or themselves for constantly being wrong with their 'breaking news'

Golden won and built the foundation at a place that is brutal, Temple. He has a **** storm around him at Miami and still gets his kids to play hard and he recruits well.No one in their right mind would think Dooley should still be in Knoxville. As part of a family full of UT alums, not a barely literate truck driver who frequents this place and thinks he deserves something from UT because he bought a giant orange T for the back of his thunderbird and then shows up in the upper section of Neyland once a year , I think the educated UT fanbase knows better than to trash a hire like Golden.

If you are so stupid that you think Golden will be lucky for Tennessee, then I bet you thought Dooloey was good for us too because they are basically the same person. Losers, both of them losers. What makes you think that all of a sudden coming to UT will make him a winner?

I agreed with you until you typed Al Golden.

So you took the time to respond to someone that no one cares about. Makes sense. Not posting much doe not make you anonymous. If I posted without a username I would be anonymous.

Continue to think UT is getting someone as big as Gruden if you want. Im sure you will be stunned when it is someone like Butch Jones.

HART should also be strung up if SAL is retained by the next HC , for any position

ESPN is the one that looks bad. Before the first ball is ever kicked, they are picking a Heisman Winner and a National Champion. How many of these have they actually been correct on? Not too many. I was looking through Athlon's, Lindy's and Phil Steele(who by the way, I have regarded as the worst pre-season mag the past few years but have recently found him to be the most credible) Out of those three, Phil Steele is the only one who mentions Johnny Manziel. ESPN is a firetruckin' joke. They know it, we know it but for some reason, the big money doesn't have a clue. Let ESPN make the jokes, laugh at our expense and talk down to the fan base. Remember these times, and then, when Gameday comes around, put it on a poster and hold it up. There are ways to get back at these networks.

As Vols fans, the list of coaches you need to stay away from are Golden, Patterson, Briles (4 years ago you didn't have a clue who this cat was), Bob Stoops, and Charlie Strong. You can criticize all you want for this list but think about each and every name I just listed and give me 5 good reasons, without doing an internet search, as to why you would want any of them. Charlie Strong is a good coach at the level he is coaching at, but what makes you think he can replicate that in the SEC? Bob Stoops cannot win the big games any longer. He has target rich Texas, Oklahoma and the surrounding states and only recruits head cases at key positions. Art Briles...Not going into it. Patterson? He has a gimicky offense that may work for a minute in the SEC, but, it wouldn't last. Yes, he has won some big games, but when you play someone once in a bowl game and they don't expect your game plan, it will work. In the SEC, that will work week one, maybe week two, but week three, your a$$ is grass. The productivity will drop into the abyss and you will be calling for his head by week 7. This is the nature of the SEC. The running game is key, great defense is key and a balanced game plan is the key to winning. I know what has worked in the past with some teams, but when SEC teams figure out the unbalanced approach, teams adjust accordingly and win that battle.

The next question is: Who do you want? You want a coach that will be committed to the program for a number of years and a proven winner. What makes the Vols think they can't have anybody they want? If you want Gruden, then you will have Gruden. If you want a Brian Kelly, you will have a Brian Kelly (maybe not this year). If Hart is too stupid to set the standards high, you will always fall Dooley short. Don't go after a mid-major guy...this only worked out for Meyer and Kelly in recent years. Kevin Sumlin is having some short term success but as soon as the teams in the conference do their homework on Manziel, he will not be a factor. I saw someone mention Manny Diaz. This guy is off the charts but he has not had a good season with his defense this year. Is he an up and comer? Absolutely, but do you give him the keys to an elite program at this stage? Hell no. Kirby Smart? Yeah, on the surface, he appears to be a defensive mastermind, but none of us know how much control he has over the defense. We know that Saban is a control freak and with that said, he probably doesn't let these guys make serious calls on the field. His coordinators act as advisors, not coaches. Be careful what you wish for. You can look at a guy on paper and think he is the key to success, but in reality he is the main ingredient for failure.

Winning football games, selling out the stadium and virtually all of the negative BS about and against TENN. will disappear. ESPN needs TENN. a whole lot worse than TENN needs ESPN. Just remember all of those years that ESPN didn't exist. We did just fine. Remember when the University decided what time the game was to be played and we didn't cowtow to the networks? There are other networks, who will gladly televise TN games, if it ever comes to that. Like I said earlier, if we consistently win games, the networks will be standing in line to televise us on prime time.

First it was Chris Fowler and the mule comment. Then, over the years, they have made it major headlines out of something minor such as the "cheating scandle", blasted TN and kept the news popping about Fulmer and the Alabama saga-really played up that win in 05 and every team they feature that has played us they ALWAYS show that teams highlights against us. Now, this morning they were actually chuckling when talking about Gruden and the Tennessee fan base constantly talking his name and basically said Gruden coming here is a pipe dream!

Anyone here who thinks Gruden is coming is just making fun of themselves.

I noticed this year that every highlight of an SEC team came at UT's expense. I was less mad at ESPN then I was at Hamilton for destroying the program.
