ESPN reports that a source close to Pearl says he has no fear of being fired

Long time reader, first time poster. This is really very simple. The most influential booster family at UT now also occupies the most powerful office in the State - UT is an entity of the State.

The Governor was behind the bench at the game in Nashville. Pearl, who publicly endorsed Haslam, was in fact looking for him after the game. If the Haslams support Bruce, which everything shows they do, then he will be the coach. Now I'm not saying whether it's right or wrong or that they may not change their mind. It is what it is.

Also, if anyone thinks there's no dealing going on behind the scenes between the most influential boosters and the NCAA, they just don't understand politics, Knoxville culture, and what really goes on at UT.

Great first post. Spot on. Post more often.

Pearl's a smart man. He has chosen his friends wisely and now won't be going anywhere despite the NCAA.

According to ESPN, Pearl is secure in his job and has no fear of being fired. Guess that settles all the speculation about his future. Apparently UT told him he would not be fired if no new findings came out of the investigation.

I found this interesting:

The one new charge revealed in the notice of allegations was that Pearl and associate head coach Tony Jones were cited for a secondary violation of "bumping" 2012 recruit Jordan Adams (Lawrenceville, Ga.), on Sept. 14, 2010, during Adams' junior year when the two visited Adams at Oak Hill Academy.

According to the report, Pearl and Jones had a two-to-three-minute conversation with Adams prior to the start of basketball practice. The violation with Adams came shortly after Pearl and Tennessee held a news conference announcing the self-imposed penalties. Pearl was allowed to recruit on the road for two-plus weeks before he was shut down for a year on Sept. 24.

Wish they would just give us the punishment and lets us begin to move on.......Pearl made a mistake...let him pay for it...But he is stil our coach

Because you put the coach ahead of the program, and while Bruce has done a good job here, he's isn't John Wooden, or Adolph Rupp, or Dean Smith, or Coach K. He's a good coach that can be replaced. I don't want to waste a season because our idiot coach lied to NCAA investigators and tried to lie about it. Plus it would look terrible on the program.

Does it not look equally unsavory that we are standing beside an admitted liar?

I am conflicted and have not made up my mind about this, before you call me a basher.

It cracks me up when people act like he killed somebody. I am sure he had no idea the NCAA had the picture, and he assumed there was no way to prove the bbq actualy occured.

Of course he would lie, because he didn't want to incriminate himself.

Not that it's okay, but it's human nature to do whatever it takes to survive if you are backed in a corner. He probably panicked, and thought he would never get caught.

Amen Brother.................:lolabove:

I hope he stays regardless of what the NCAA does and I hope it pisses the Pearl Haters off so bad they become Alabubba Fans.I think most of us are not so self righteous and believe people deserve a second chance. He certainly has done more good for UT basketball than bad and certainly more than the posters that spew their disdain for him.He also does good things around the community that is not expected or known by a lot of people. He is not perfect but in my 46 years I have yet to meet the first person that is.Most people that love to tear down others are usually either jealous or hypocrites.I hope he goes to the tanning bed and paints himself orange when the Lady Vols go to the Final Four................:clapping:

Good post.:good!:

Will you cheer for him after this is all over and he's back on our sideline?

Why would they cheer for him after its over and back on the sidelines? They don't cheer for him now and some of them have been hoping he would fail ever since he has been here.

Thanks CBP! You have done a magnificent job coaching the UT men's team. Hope you stay in Knoxville for a long, long time. I especially find it humorous that all the legal eagles are hating on you for "lying"...talk about hypocrisy!

Very true. For some folks here, I don't think it would matter who the coach was. They would still hope he fails.

This is far larger than the basketball team or the athletic department. When Pearl lied to the NCAA investigators and then attempted to get the recruits and their families to cover for his lie, he crossed a line that should have gotten him fired when he disclosed the lie to Hamilton. A lie that he couldn't escape because of the picture. Hamilton should have been fired along with Pearl. The Kiffin debacle combined with the Pearl fiasco warranted a pink slip for Hamilton.

UT needs an AD like Pat Haden. Someone who is knowledgeabe about athletics and highly respected by his peers and the media.

Good argument except for the facts. The NCAA showed him the picture and he didn't recognize his house or his assistant coaches' wife he has known for 10 years. You really should get current on the facts of the case if you are going to try to defend his actions.

With no new major violations, Pearl will be safe for sure. AD MH has made it clear he wants Pearl at UT. The self-imposed punishments have saved UT and Pearl in this case more than people think.

Not true, there are several posters here who have claimed to never lie. Or was it that they didn't lie when it was important? I forget.

Anyone that has ever had a boss or manager, has lied to that boss or manager, whether big or small. If they say they haven't, they are lying again. If you haven't held a job yet, I bet you lie withing the first week of employment. Problem is BP admitted a lie. Most others plead ignorance or deny till the end.

Correct. UT would be completely stupid to keep Pearl if a show-cause is issued.

There isn't a scenario under which UT would be smart to keep Pearl at this point. I mean, how can a guy that picks up another major violation after his tearful "admit I was wrong" press conference be retained? It would just prove that we place Bruce Pearl over the program, which is wrong.

Someone didn't read the report.
