Amen Brother.................:lolabove:

I hope he stays regardless of what the NCAA does and I hope it pisses the Pearl Haters off so bad they become Alabubba Fans.I think most of us are not so self righteous and believe people deserve a second chance. He certainly has done more good for UT basketball than bad and certainly more than the posters that spew their disdain for him.He also does good things around the community that is not expected or known by a lot of people. He is not perfect but in my 46 years I have yet to meet the first person that is.Most people that love to tear down others are usually either jealous or hypocrites.I hope he goes to the tanning bed and paints himself orange when the Lady Vols go to the Final Four................:clapping:

You have nailed it. Excellent post.

Bruce has made UT basketball something we can be proud of. I remember the Buzz days where we were lucky to draw 10,000 (except the UK game where UK fans outnumbered us). If these sanctions were going on during Buzz's reign then no one would care and it wouldnt make the news.

Sure Bruce has made mistakes, but the man has a passion and love for this school and deserves to stay. He has taken this program further than ever before, and if we let him stay we will continue to make progress. Bruce IS Tennessee basketball. GBO

Yes, another point we must remember is that the downward turn of the economy has had a huge impact on our state and the University of Tennessee system has suffered as well. The financial resources of the athletic department has been beneficial to the university in several areas. Before Bruce Pearl arrived, I am sure the only source of that financial supply was through football. I can't help but believe that sellout crowds at TBA has certainly been helpful during tough economic times. I personally don't see sellout crowds at TBA without Bruce Pearl as our coach.
Boosters love him and a majority of the fans love him.

Because you put the coach ahead of the program, and while Bruce has done a good job here, he's isn't John Wooden, or Adolph Rupp, or Dean Smith, or Coach K. He's a good coach that can be replaced. I don't want to waste a season because our idiot coach lied to NCAA investigators and tried to lie about it. Plus it would look terrible on the program.

Buzz Peterson, Jerry Green, and Wade Houston called.

They think your assessment is spot on. :good!::crazy:

You're right. Those are the only three coaches that we could get. Bruce isn't even the best coach in our history...but that's a different topic for a different day.

Pearl's 6 years at UT about 140-60. Coach K's first 6 years at Duke about 120-60. Not comparing the two completely, just saying....

Coach K also had a NCAA Finals appearance by then.

1) Right now, I'm actually embarrassed of UT basketball.

2) Doug Dickey isn't making the hires anymore.

3) Bruce doesn't care about the university. If he did, he wouldn't have lied in the first place, then four days later commit another violation. Bruce cares only about himself.

4) He has taken one game farther. Let's not make him to be a two time NCAA Champion.

5) Bruce is not, nor will he ever be UT basketball. The absolute crowning of Bruce Pearl as UT basketball is sickening for a coach who has ONE damn elite eight appearance.

Ray Mears was at least just as good as Pearl, imo.

In terms of what? Coaching or accomplishments? If you're talking about coaching, I can't comment as I'm not old enough to have watched his teams play, but there certainly hasn't been a better 5-year stretch in program history.

Much different time then. Mears would have been in the tourney basically every year he was at Tennessee had the tourney set up been the same as it is today.

So then we're talking about coaching then? Were you old enough to watch his teams play? I'm just wondering what you're going off of to say Mears was at least a good a coach as Pearl.

Yes. I go by his career stats. I've watched old games of his and have a general understanding of his philosophies but I'm not old enough to have seen them live. His conference winning percentage is higher than Pearl's, and that was over a 15 year period.

Jerry Freaking Green had 90 percent of the resume at UT that Pearl does, and everybody thinks he sucks.

I bet that if we didn't win the Ohio State game, or Tyler Smith never had a gun, 75% of the fanbase would want Pearl gone.

If Pearl can win these last three games, their conference record would be a push. Their overall record is a push. Mears gets the advantage there though because it is over a 15 year period. At the same time, as much as Pearl is dogged for his lack of tournament success, 60% of his years has ended in Sweet 16 finishes. That's pretty good. Mears has only 1 (I believe). I know you'll say we can't compare post-season success now vs 30 years ago, but I don't see another way of evaluating coaches based strictly on results.

I really don't think you can compare the post-season records, but I think it is safe to say that Mears underperformed when he made it to the dance. Of course, at the same time, making it to the dance was a significant accomplishment then, much more so than now.

That is true
