Several of our players have mentioned our fans at Neyland as a big difference maker on 3rd down D. Is OK known to be a tough/loud environment? Never had the experience of a game there.

On ESPN college football daily Todd Maddox says this is a statement game for stoops. Says that TN better look out because "Stoops will hang 100 on them if he gets a chance."

Man I hope we come out swinging and give them a fight. I'm tired of hearing how my vols are going to get steamrolled!

:popcorn::finger3::rock:

Stoops better watch out. Just remember Oklahoma will come to Knoxville next year. And Oklahoma will be in the same place we are now having to replace both the O-line and D-line.

I'm shocked ESPN isn't saying UT would score 100 points on OU because SEC! SEC! SEC!

OU won't score 100 points. I doubt they even score half of that. It's going to be a good game between 2 storied programs. There's no need by anyone to disrespect either team. At least they had the **lls to schedule each other when teams like Baylor are scheduling low tier FCS schools.

Besides, ESPN said Bama would beat OU by 20+ in the Sugar Bowl. Look how that turned out for them.

Exactly!

They couldn't put up 50 points on LA Tech and barely put up 50 on Tulsa. Tulsa...

But yeah, I'm sure they're going to drop a 100 on us...

Also, our opponents have been head and shoulders above Oklahoma's and we have a much, much better 3rd down conversion ranking than them. We're ranked 13th in 3rd down defense and they are ranked 44th... 44th

They are going to come in and think they'll be able to walk all over us. Good. Let them think that and overlook our defense. They'll be looking like Keeton by the 2nd quarter. Dazed and confused about what hit them...

Discount those 2 games. The coaches were working on packages and timing. They never opened up the playbook, just played vanilla, just as UT did in their first 2 games.

Stoops had a chance once to 'hang a hundred' on Texas A&M. He called off the dogs at halftime the second and third string still scored 3 more touchdowns before they were ordered not to score again.

Stoops doesn't hate the SEC. What he hates is the media making it look like the SEC is unbeatable. He's done a pretty good job of beating most of the SEC teams he has coached against at OU.

Stoops may regret SEC bashing!
He is catching the Vols when we are an average/low average SEC team due to the rebuilding and coaching carousel that we have been through.
He however will very likely get a chance to play another more developed/experienced team in the playoffs.
All of this SEC doesn't dominate us crap will be perfect pin board material.
I have a feeling that if he runs up the score and talks too much trash, the favor will be returned in the playoffs.
Yes he beat an uninspired Alabama team in their consolation game last year, but the game implications will be different in the bowls this year.
Watch out big mouth Bob...you will reap what you sow!
That being said, I hope we sneak up and kick him in the stones!

If Stoops runs the score up on our young team I'd say Butch will have some heated words for him at the midfield handshake. Butch should just punch him in the mouth and shut his smart azz up for a bit. Stoops can say what he wants, but he knows that OU plays in a weak azz conference compared to the SEC. At least A&M had enough balls to come play big boy football even though it logistically didn't make much sense. OU plays like 3 tough games a year on average and most of the time they can't even run through a very mediocre schedule. I give them a little credit lately though for taking on bigger non-conference teams, but they still play a weak schedule compared to all SEC teams.

Bobby Stoops is a smart coach. Let's just say OU is up 41-13 early in the 4th. He sees the big picture, he isn't going to leave his best players in the game and risk injury just to embarrass a team from the SEC that hasn't had a winning season in 4 years.

He is sitting #4 in the country, if he just covers the spread and gets the heck out of this game with no injuries he will be a happy coach.

Sure, I'll discount those two games. Let's also have a look at last year, unless we need to discount those games as well...

Our offense only converted 36% of their third down chances last year. This was with, what the pundits were calling, "the best o-line in the country". This year we have improved to 47 percent with, what the pundits are calling "the youngest o-line in the country".

Last year Oklahoma had a .395 third down conversion rate with a strength of schedule listed in the top 10 of only 2 out of 6 final strength of schedule statistics.

While Tennessee had a .358 third down conversion rate with a top 10 final strength of schedule in 5 out of 6 final strength of schedule statistics. With 3 of those being in the top 5. We had the 2nd toughest schedule vs. FBS schools according to NCAA stats.

Oklahoma has a good football program. But to me it seems like the majority of your fans on landthieves.com look at us like another lower-tier school which they will simply roll over. We haven't been in the top of the SEC in a while, I'll grant you that, but Tennessee is on it's way back and if you look at Jones' history between his first and second years, history would say this is the year we make huge strides.

Also, do you think the Vols had their playbook open? Don't look at what you saw the first two games TN played and think, "Welp, this is going to be easy". We also played back-ups in our games, too. It's not like we just had our starters on the field for 4 quarters. Some of them were... But, that's because they are beasts and refused to come out.

I'm looking forward to the game and I'm not going to go all "we gonna whip dey azz" on you, but to not expect a hard fought game for 4 quarters is a mistake.

Not going to happen! Against current SEC schools in Norman, Stoops is 12-0, but has only out scored them 531-194, an avg of 44-16. Will be closer to this than 100.
I guess you guys really racked up a lot of wins against A&M and Missouri when they weren't in the SEC (and weren't very good pre-SEC). I may have miscalculated but I think Stoops only is .500 and has been outscored by SEC schools at all locations.

Then we'll just need to score 101 for the win! GBO!

I agree, fans don't realize they are being played by media to drum up interest for this game. Other then UGA/USC, there are no big games. In theory and tradition ours is a big game but not in reality. They must find someway to create storylines for ratings.

Stoops wants to win the game, get out with no injuries to his star players and continue with the goal to play in the NC game.

Now I will say this, if this was a bowl game or NC game against SEC, yes if in the position to he would run it up.

The reported was using the number 100 as a far fetched figure to make the point that Stoops will run up the score if he can. He did not say OU would score 100.

I have no problem with what he said, it is the truth. IF Stoops can he will score as many points as he can against an SEC team. IF is a very powerful word in the English language.

"IF" Stoops had wings, he wouldn't bumpeth his butt on the ground.

Oh, now you want to bring out last year's stats. Of course OU had a low conversion rate. The starting QB for 2/3 of the season is now a TE.

Since you are being a jerk about it, the only real way we can do a comparison is based on competition each team played against. Based on UT's 2013 schedule, that would only be Alabama. OU won quite convincingly. How did UT do against Bama last year?

How many of those are against mid level aTm and Mizzou? In the early 2000s?

Can't think of any other SEC teams with the stones to make the trip if they did not have to.

That's the best thing Johnny Majors gave this program, IMHO

The UT played an inspired Bama, not to mention a long time rivalry.

OU played an uninspired team. Anyone who watched the game could see that.
