ETSU suspends Randy Sanders

Why is it that we were made with just enough delay in there to go "oh **** this is going to huuuuuuuuuuuuuuu......."

Because our bodies evolved in such a way as to give us just a moment or two to try and get away from the danger of it. Same reason we take more pain and get stronger in extreme situations. Release of noepenephrine to the body.

The number of people in this topic saying "Its totally fine he hit a kid because its football" is insane.

My dad was a tough SoB, but if another man hit me or any of my siblings when I was a kid he would've kicked their ass within an inch of their life.

Now if he wanted to whip my ass that was a different story, and acceptable.

really so in this case its ok to beat children, but when pads are on its not ok to beat children?

and I would never conflate a slap on the head with a beating.

Very awkward hypocrisy here. We don’t know what kind of “hit” it was for starters. But you arguing a hit from the coach as completely unacceptable vs your dad doing it as ok is weird enough. Your dad almost killing someone for a hit is also incredibly awkward.

It's always ok to beat children, it's your duty. They need it.

Not that it’s ok but most of us who played at least competitive high school football and are 40 plus were hit by coaches on a regular basis in practice. It was common and expected. We also think kids now are too sensitive and need to toughen up.

40+ isn’t the window for that. Much younger. I’d say it still happens. Not a big deal. Just a kid crying and his mommy and daddy came to the rescue.

Apples and bananas

Sanders is a brilliant offensive mind and has installed his scheme at ETSU with the help of 2 excellent qb's fighting for the starting job, one a 3 year starter and a transfer from Temple with 12 career games. I was at the spring game and 1 went 14-19, 154 yds, 1 td and the other 14-20, 158 yds, 1td. Wish Tennessee could have gotten an offensive coach which is lacking in the SEC. My guess is Florida will become the offensive juggernaut. Word is he will be returning soon.

Reminds me of when Woody Hayes punched a Clemson player in the gut because he tackled one of his players during a Bowl game a few years ago.

This doesn't sound remotely close to what Woody Hayes did. This sounds like your typical football coach hitting someone with their helmet on.

Your dad could whip any of our dads?

Not a big deal. Just a kid crying and his mommy and daddy came to the rescue.

Where’s your evidence that’s what happened?

Sanders then slapped the player's helmet. According to the report, the player became "visibly upset," took off his helmet and pads and left the field while some of his teammates attempted to console him. Sanders said he tried to speak with the player but let him walk away after seeing the player's reaction.

Heard the part about the parents pushing for a suspension on 990.
.

The incident happened when the team was running an end-of-game “Hail Mary” drill where the offense throws a deep pass into the end zone trying to score a last-second touchdown.

The player in question, identified as freshman defensive back Tyree Robinson — ETSU has not confirmed the player’s name — intercepted a pass and tried to return it out of the end zone.

The report stated that Sanders said something to the effect of “What are you doing? That’s the dumbest football play I’ve ever seen. Just take a knee and we win the game.”

The player, according to the report, “responded sarcastically something to the effect of “I will, in a game.”

Randy Sanders' statement, "Last week, I responded to a situation with poor judgment towards the end of practice. I immediately apologized to the player directly involved and to my team, and contacted my athletic director to explain everything that happened. Since that time, I have cooperated freely and fully with the university and its review of the situation.

I accept the decision by the university and recognize that through my role I have an obligation to lead by example. As I said back in December, I am truly grateful to be your coach and I am thankful for the opportunity given to me by our President Dr. Brian Noland and Athletic Director Scott Carter. I look forward to returning to the sideline."

I hate it too, always did like him.

It sounds like a sexual harassment complaint to me based on this statement.

"East Tennessee State coach Randy Sanders has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the results of an investigation of a potential violation of university policy, the school announced in a statement Monday."

Just pure speculation on my part, but I hope that I'm wrong.

That will teach coaches to self report.
