Euro 2012

England couldn't have even had 2 minutes of possession in the second half of ET. Hopefully they'll make it happen here in the shootout. History says they won't. Maybe being up against the only nation who even comes close to having such an abysmal record in shootouts will play to their advantage.

Oh well. The team that deserved to win moves on. England can't really have a lot of complaints, and Germany would have demolished them.

England losing in penalties is like the sun rising in the morning or Bama cheating. Somethings you can always count on.

I guess Portugal is now my only hope for a desirable outcome to this tournament. I don't even really like them, but it would be nice to see CR win something for his country.

I normally hate watching the Italians play. But they have been a joy to watch this tournament. Good for them.

I think the four best teams of the tournament are the ones left. Should be a great last three games.

Because normally they spend at least half the game rolling around on the ground after flopping. They are going to have to step their game up significantly if they want to beat Germany.

1-7 now. Although it would have been better for Germany for Egland to win I am not at all sad to see them gone.

Germany won't have any issues methinks. They get 2 extra days of rest, as pointed out numerous times during the game.

I have a feeling Italy is going to park the bus because of UEFA's crappy scheduling.

Props to Italy, England looked horrible and shouldn't have even made it to PKs. Will cheer for Portugal, but would like to see a Germany Spain final just for the quality I would expect it to produce.

I have to agree that Italy has been fun to watch this tourney. They stand a far better chance vs Germany than England would.

Always a good day when the English bow out. There's nothing funnier than being in a pub full of drunk and depressed Eng-a-land, Eng-a-land supporters.

There's no point even rooting against the diving, flopping Italians on principle anymore, because it works so well that everyone does it. The flopping was pretty even on both sides today. My seven year old was making fun of both teams.

I think it's just become such a pervasive part of the sport that we all just take it for granted now. Because it works. If you're not diving, you're deliberately leaving an advantage for your team out on the table. It's a shame.

Completely agree. Often times, if you don't go to ground, you will not get any calls your way.

By the way, not sure if anyone mentioned. Pirlo was absolute world class today. That penalty was so beautiful.

Surprise, a Barça fan defending diving. :)

I really wish they would start reviewing games and carding players who dive. That would solve the prOblem.

I don't really know what it is, but I haven't enjoyed this year's Euro nearly as much as I thought I would. I used to look forward to, and watch, either live or on DVR, basically every second of both the WC and the Euro. This year, with the exception of the England and Holland games, I've pretty much just had it on in the background and will rewind and watch the goals,. I think it might have to do with the fact that 5-7 years ago, the WC and Euro were basically all the soccer (other than MLS) that came on TV here in the states, and once they were over, it was going to be 2 years until you got to watch again. Now, with the easy availability of most EPL games, that's not the case. Or it could be that Spain, a team I really don't like, have dominated the past 3 international tournaments. Or the fact that my favorite team, Holland, were pretty much done on the second day of this Euro. Whatever the reasons, it seems I've come to like the club side of the sport more than the international over the past couple years.
