Everybody seems unhappy that we beat Florida.

If stars matter, I don’t understand the argument there is parity.

Bama has 15 5 Stars on roster
Vandy has 0 5 Stars on roster

I’m also going to assume Bama has a much richer NIL budget than Vandy.

This is not you but the poster you responded to. I love it when a poster throws out a challenge of "you won't say such and such to this guy" like every one posting is a scrawny keyboard warrior. I also am a 240lb ex-college football player with several UT football players in my frat. Anyone watching last night saw an inept performance at home. Stating that is not telling someone "yo mama".

Assuming any game to be a "gimme" is one problem. Not appreciating winning would be another. It is far too easy for complaining people to complain nowadays. Which is another problem.
But really people are just mad that it wasn't a blowout that they could brag about at work tomorrow. That's the real issue behind all of this whining. Bunch of ungrateful armchair offensive line coaches and qb gurus. As far the next game goes (which is what's really important), a point win is all it takes. Anything else is extra. GoVols 🍊

What an idiotic post. The AP poll dropped us to 11 and we are not in playoff conversation. The close win mattered and the media polls showed it. Blow out Florida, and that would NOT have happened.

Look for the offense to bounce back against BAMA. Their defense is not as good as OU's and this will be the first time , unlike UF, their defensive coordinator will playing against a Heupel offense. If we have early success running the ball, we'll put some points on the board.

Too bad they don't vote for who actually makes the college football playoff. AP poll is like the popular vote. It's irrelevant. Electoral college elects the president. And the playoff committee picks who makes the playoffs.

What is this? We have like 3 wins in the last 19 games against Florida? Something close to that? And some fans are so unhappy that it feels like we lost? Or is it that you didn't cover your bet and you lost money? I think we were favored by more than a TD. Well, I really have NO sympathy for you. Me, I loved the win and will all year. Enjoy your betting.
Look here brother, who you jivin' with that cosmic debri?

I actually bet that we’d win and beat the spread at the half. My 3 dollars won me 3 more!

I like beating Florida. I don't like that there has been zero passing game threat for multiple games now. I fully understand that the Florida game is one that never goes like it should for us. But Nico is not playing like a winner, even as a redshirt freshman. He is missing wide-open receivers at the worst possible times and did the same things we gave up on Joe for. What sucks is he was expected to play like he was ready. That's why no other experienced QB was brought in. He is expected to be the answer; right now, it looks like he can only destroy cupcakes. I really don't like that Napier was able to coach into OT against our team.

The committee definitely pays attention to it. Most historically websites track the AP poll for teams all-time achievements. It is still a serious poll even if you want to disregard it.

Stupid thread. I haven't seen anyone who is unhappy that we beat Florida.
Not stupid at all Opie, not tat All!!

Speaking for myself Hack, I was more "relieved" when Dylan pushed his way into the end zone on the last play of the game. My expectations were that we could/should beat the Gators, esp at home in front of 100 million billion screaming UT fans. Happy, was not a word I could use at that moment - as my stomach and brain were soooo discombobulated. I feared another loss when Gators scored to tie game and just could not believe this was happening again to the legions of UT fans and Volunteers.

In hindsight though, even though it was a win, I don't reckon that a lot of players necessarily felt it was. Yes we got the W, but my guess is that there was/is a gaping hole in their bellies, and I am hoping that this will keep them humble and realize that they beat a very mediocre team by the grace of God and through the play of our Stallworth Defense. This team knows that they have to step it up to even compete with Bama, and if we had beaten the Gators soundly, the players may have wound up thinking that they are better than they are - and Lord knows, you cannot think that way going into Tuscaloosa. Every second, every block, every tackle, every pass, every run, every punt, every return, every play called, every penalty, every time out, every every thing, must be performed perfectly in line to compete against the Tide. They are beatable (see Cocks and Vandy games) and we can do it providing we execute everything to perfection. We certainly have the talent and the coaching. Just needs to come together for 60 beautiful minutes. Go Vols!

First of all, the premise of the thread title is just plain silly. Nobody is upset that we beat Florida. I can't speak for everyone, but I was looking at this game with the hope that this would be a "get right" game for our offense. It wasn't. The Oklahoma and Arkansas game weren't flukes which is a cause for concern with the schedule that we still have ahead of us.

What you don't get is that people get unhappy when our team doesn't play up to expectations. Are we relieved and happy to win, yes. But Florida is not a good team, and if we had an offense and offensive coaching performing up to it's "supposed" talent level, then we should have destroyed them, not eek out a win in OT at home. It upsets people, because it doesn't bode well for the rest of the season to eek out OT wins at home against crappy teams, or lose to mediocre teams like Arkansas on the road.

Don’t be silly.

The disappointment isn’t in beating Florida. The disappointment is in the offensive downturn since halftime of the OU game. This a bad UF team with even worse coaching. Should have blown them out. The concern is real.

I think you and I agree almost 100%. It wasn't a win that we would call satisfying. But I don't think either one of us is "unhappy" that we somehow avoided losing.

Humans are capable of complex emotional responses. One can be happy that we beat Florida, and unhappy that it took going to overtime with a Florida team this bad because our offense was anemic again for 4 more quarters.

It was satisfying for me. I was tired of all the we can’t beat Florida we are jinked we won’t win crowd talk. Well we have won 2 out of 3 and 2 in a row at home. We are 5-1, we have a talented but young quarterback and that light is going to come on soon. We have a defense that hasn’t given up more than 19 points in a single game. Everybody doubting us going into Bama but I feel better about it after the Florida win than I did before. Bama has had their own struggles. Monroe is a great player, but Bama has struggled passing some and Monroe has been getting it done with his legs. If we can make Monroe uncomfortable and stop him I like our chances. We’re 5-1 and we are still capable of playing better offensively which will only help the defense more as well. Would love to see our offense get on track this week. GBO

Not really. Playoff committee always does their own thing. In 2022 they ranked us #1 in the initial playoff poll despite the AP having us #3. The AP cares more about perception and historical relevance while the playoff committee just look at your performance that particular season. We had the best resume in the country that year by that point in the season but the media didn't believe in us as much as Georgia and Ohio State who had a better track record of recent success. So despite our play they rated us behind them. Playoff committee looked at just our performance that season and rated us #1.
