Expedition or Tahoe???

In my time in the dealership parts/service world...we usually had 2 or 3 of each coming in or going out of the used dept.

They're close enough it'll come down to personal preference. We had marginally better luck with the GMs as far as dealing with them after a sale and fixing stuff when they came in used before going on the lot. They Seemed to hold a touch more value at the end of their retail lives...but just minimal.

At the end of the day, its really a coin flip.

Ask your wife just to try a van. Rent one for a day if you're even slightly tempted by the idea. She'd be surprised... (the gas and garage/driveway space savings are worth a lot to me)

If that's a no then go with what's comfortable.

Thanks for the info. I used to drive a minivan for work. She didn't like it then. I like the Odyssey, but tough convincing her when she has her mind made up against it.

My wife is the same way. We don't even have kids yet and she was convinced she wanted/needed a Tahoe.

Thankfully she borrowed her sister's for a week...one fill up was enough to make her hug her Camry for now.

Asks for opinions. Bashes guy for his opinion on Ford, yet he bashes GM because of the Traverse. Gotta love it.

This is the only reason to buy a big SUV

That has been my position for awhile. There are dozens of better options than having to fork over for an SUV. If the people buying SUVs would just be honest with themselves and everyone else, they could admit that the only reason to buy one is for status. which is fine, just admit that it is the reason why you chose to spend $45k on an Expedition or Tahoe vs half that amount on a used minivan or $10-15k less on a new minivan.

Good for you?

You didn't ask me, but we got a new Sienna last year and it was a HUGE upgrade.

Granted we went from 2005 Outback wagon to a van, but it has been great for both my wife and myself.

Nice leg/head room, sliding rear doors, lights, ride - basically we love it.

Probably a bigger deal for us because our kids are 2 & 4

I think you are correct, but it is nothing new or unusual. Status and 'exclusivity' play a big role in many purchases. I always shake my head when I see someone rolling in a basement Audi A4 with no seat heaters, front wheel drive, and a cvt. they could have gotten a nicely dressed passat for less and gotten a lot more car. People like that badge though.

I'm cool with a van but the wife just isn't having it.

I could agree with you when people buy Escaldes or Navigators. I don't see a Tahoe or an Expedition as a status symbol.

My wife likes to sit up high. When we only had one child she drove a 4 door F150.

No reason to drive a mini van unless you are old or a woman. Few things denigrate a mans manhood in the automobile world like a mini van. Smart car and modern VW bug are in competition.

Its hilarious to watch the male minivan owners come out of the woodwork when an SUV is being discussed. Its like you have to say something to prove your manhood or tell us how smart you are for buying a minivan.

We get it, you like your minivan. Thats nice, but we are talking trucks here
