Expedition or Tahoe???

My cars are a 2005 Honda Odyssey with 180,000 miles, and a 2001 Nissan Xterra with 417,000 miles.

Xterra has always been a good looking vehicle. I am afraid Nissan will mess that up like they did with the Pathfinder.

I drive a 08 Rogue..its very unmanly. Always catch grief about it being a mini van in fact. But I didnt want a car and at the time I didnt want a huge SUV because of gas. Now I don't care about case and I need something bigger to accommodate the constant work I find myself doing on my house. And being a CVT towing is always a bit of a risk. So my future vehicle has to have a large V6, but V8 is prefered, and it needs to tow a couple thousand pounds. I like having the option of a good premium sound system and that is a turn off from GM because I don't think they offer anything decent.

In central Florida I see a TON of old rusty piece of sh#t toyota's and hondas. Some people will say they drive them because they are reliable. I say if you are driving a 1995 honda civic you probably have terrible credit and low income.

Wait, what?

As far as 'good sound systems' go...you are insane if you pony up for whatever is offered as an option. To say you get raped and pillaged on those is a massive understatement.

Rethink things if its truly a factor in what you buy. Get what drives the best and works best financially...then throw in an aftermarket sound system if its really bothering you.

GM used to offer Bose systems in their vehicles. Has that fallen by the wayside? If so, that's a real shame because I had a GMC Envoy in college and the sound system kicked ass.

That has been my position for awhile. There are dozens of better options than having to fork over for an SUV. If the people buying SUVs would just be honest with themselves and everyone else, they could admit that the only reason to buy one is for status. which is fine, just admit that it is the reason why you chose to spend $45k on an Expedition or Tahoe vs half that amount on a used minivan or $10-15k less on a new minivan.

This is true. Actually, since I have a bunch of kids and like to take long trips, I should have gone with one of these:

I had you figured for a 23 Window VW van, complete with surfboard racks and built-in bongs.

For a stock system, mine was great. The crap in my Honda Civic Si should not even be considered speakers. Sounds like soup cans rattling around.

I loved what was in my 2000 Acura integra GSR. I had an upgraded head unit though, but the factory speakers were good. With the mazda-Bose the sound is just mediocre and because Bose is strange I can't upgrade the speakers without great difficulty.

My parents had a few of these when I was growing up. It had a TV, VCR, and a couch in the back. It was good for traveling that was for sure.

Bang and Olufsen is what I consider premium, not Sony or Pioneer.. Not a fan of aftermarket systems at all. I always said I would buy a car that didnt require that.

Bose in my car is not bad. I would prefer a punchier base and bit more equalization control but its fine for now. The sub is sitting inside the spare tire which is not only weird but a pain in the A when you get a flat.

Its hilarious to watch the male minivan owners come out of the woodwork when an SUV is being discussed. Its like you have to say something to prove your manhood or tell us how smart you are for buying a minivan.

We get it, you like your minivan. Thats nice, but we are talking trucks here

My wife drives a minivan. Who else in this thread even owned up to having one?

Somewhere, an engineer deserves a swift donkey punch...

I had an 05 Town and Country

Ultimate stealth cruiser. Glide along at 90mph in a light blue minivan and cops don't even look up. I even managed 28mpg on long trips.

Spare tire subs are actually pretty common. Cheaper for the manufacturer to put in and design, plus they don't eat up any real cargo space. Mazda puts the sub in mine under the front passenger seat.

Also, I would absolutely consider getting the nicest factory radio I can in a new car. With the level of integration with cars and the entertainment systems you lose a ton of functionality if you go with an aftermarket system. For me on a 07 model, I would lose the steering wheel controls which I use all the time.

Stow and go seating?

I love a good stealthy car. My car is black and looks like any other mazda. Throw on a nice legal level tint so the cops can't see me, and you've got a good cruiser.

We have one which is my wife's daily driver, but I drive it all the time when I'm not at work (the Xterra is primarily a work vehicle). Nobody ever says anything to me about being a man driving a minivan. Of course, the ladies are too busy drooling. What can I say. I'm a good-lookin guy.

And I'm humble.

no, mine was the short wheelbase model, Stow n Go wasn't an option

FWIW, I didn't suggest Sony/Pioneer.

Its whatever floats your boat. I'm guessing I look at keeping a vehicle a lot longer than you so we're probably looking at different things.

Now that is well thought out.

I'll admit I'm jaded because I've seen people who couldn't afford the vehicle in the first place 'add a little more' to their payment to get what amounted to a joke of a 'premium' sound system.

I think most of my issue with them comes from replacing several 'premium' systems during the dealership years. MY LORD...just ugly cost wise.
