For you guys that have just started playing recently like I did.
One thing that has helped me tremendously is to watch the waiver wire...guys panic and drop very good players...two players I picked up recently are Carlos Lee and Rual Ibanez, now both are struggling at this point but eventually I see both having decent seasons, they don't start for me...I have only used them when guys have been hurt thus far.
Point is, your draft may not have went the way you wanted it to but other guys will panic and drop players and pick up the guy who is on fire at the moment...see Renteria...guys starting picking him up like he was a stud...the guy is a mediocre hitter at best, everyone gets hot over a 162 game season.
Just picked up Konerko last night and he got me two bombs today. I'd pick him up if you're looking for power.
His last 9 games he's hitting .400 with 6 hr and 10 rbi
Just picked up A.Hill off of waivers...people are strange...he will ride the pine until he gets hot, which if he stays healthy, he will.
The guy hit over 30 HR's last year...his injury should prevent numbers like he put up last year but not a bad pick-up considering he won't start everyday.
He was a "stay away" according to Yahoo Sports before the season started. There was an owner who dropped him, just to be picked up after he got activated from the DL.
Just traded Zack Greinke/Andrew McCutchen for Evan Longoria/Ryan Ludwick.
Pretty happy with it, can't believe that he gave up Longoria, I hated to give up McCutchen though.
did you have a surplus of pitching? i usually won't let pitching go for anything less then 2 great hitters. your trade based on point per week in my league is a push until you look how the points split. Points are just a way to normalize stats so i can compare players. Your players are worth 30 points per week. His were worth 28. However the 30 point were split even between Greinke and McCuthchen. The 28 you just got from him are pretty much all Longoria. He accounts for 23 of those 28. I like making sure that none of my players consistently is the only source of my points. Spread them out equally and slumps/injuries/rests don't hurt as much.
Yeah I still have Halladay/Haren/Jimenez/Nolasco/Liriano/Hanson...I had to get rid of one of them, may have to get rid of another because of limits.
I play in a 5x5 roto league.
Obviously my piching was stout but my hitters were struggling, I figured I could get rid of Greinke, he will give me similar stats to the rest of the pitchers I have...I don't see him winning a whole lot this year because of the team he plays for.
I think I made out pretty well, I was not too happy about giving up McCuthen and getting Ludwick, but he didn't have any other OF that would have sufficed.
That is one solid pitching staff but just passing the word to you is that Haren is strictly a first-half pitcher. Now he seems to be having the ups and the downs this year thus far.
