Vaughn Reeves on the TE reverse pass for a TD against Florida when we blew them out in the early 90's.

Second is probably Phillips against Florida in the pouring rain.

By far my favorite play is Peyton Manning's naked bootleg against Alabama. He faked the whole defense out and walked into the endzone then through his hands in the air. A quarterback with passion, got to love it...

1989 - DB Preston Warren stretches out Duke WR Clarkston Hines around midfield. Poor blue ba$t@rd didn't know what planet he was on the rest of the game!

Jeremy Lincolns ass...(look it up kids.)

Tony Thompson dive in the Sugar Bowl

Jay Graham vs Ohio State

Webb in Dallas.

Thanks for the memories...

What about Jeff Powell? Remember him? He was William and Mary x-fer who played RB in the 1986 Sugar Bowl against #2 Miami. Miami shifted into a different defense to cover Tim McGhee and the TE. D Dickey (QB) audibled at the line and Jeff Powell split the safeties for a 60 yard "thing of beauty TD" with 2 Miami DBs with "all world speed" trailing behind. It was incredible.

Reading the post about the 96 Bama game made me remember one of my favorite plays in UT history. Manning to Kent on the 1st offensive play for a TD. That set the tone for sending the Tide home in tears.

What is your favorite play. Some that come to mind immediately are:
  1. Manning to Kent - 96 Bama
  2. Clint Stoerner Fumble
  3. Eddie Moore destroying UF running back
  4. Tee Martin slips and throws to Peerles Price in NC Game
There are many others, what comes to mind?

Manning to Kent was 95'

Jeff Powell was a beast. He played softball in a law league in Nashville in the early nineties.. he was so big compared to those little dorks he plays playing against

Al Wilson forced and I think recovered a fumble to set up the game-winning FG vs. Florida in 1998. He refused to lose. Also, Dale Jones snatching a Mike Shula pass out of the air to preserve a victory over Bama.

Let's do this right. Von Reeves' 47-yd. strike to Carl Pickens for the touchdown occurs at roughly the 21:00 mark of this video clip (1990 Tennessee 45 Florida 3 (2nd Half) - YouTube). Incidentally, this clip provides coverage of the entire 2nd half, beginning with Dale Carter's 90-yd. kickoff return for a touchdown and concluding with a 45-3 final margin of victory.

As good as Manning to Kent was against Alabubba, my favorite play will always be Dale Jones blocking Mike Shula's pass and then intercepting it to seal the victory against Alabubba in Birmingham in 1985.

I'm a little biased because I played fb with him at Bradley Central--and no one I have ever known worked harder than he did--and has stayed as humble as he is.

He is the epitome of a TEAM leader and player--and THE example of what's been missing in UT football for a while!

GO VOLS! :salute:

Jeff Powell td against Miami in Sugar Bowl. I was in end zone behind the play and saw the hole open up for Powell to run through and slam the door on the Canes.

Some of you may be old enough to remember.

It was January 1, 1986, in theNew Orleans,Louisiana Superdome. UT had shocked the Miami Hurricanes, and taken a 21-7 lead, early in the 3rd quarter. With the Hurricanes barely clinging to life, UT's OC called Johnny Major's favorite play, on 2nd and long. The Sprint Draw. Darryl Dickey took the snap, appearing to drop back to pass, then quickly handed the football to a little known track man, Jeff Powell. Powell, who was a transfer from William & Mary, took the hand off, and cut hard to his left, as Bruce Wilkinson ferried George Myra(Miami MLB) into Jerome Brown(Miami DT), effectively removing both All-American defenders from the play. Powell was through the gaping hole too fast for LB's to touch him, and into the open field, where he turned on the afterburners, and blew away 2 olympic sprinters, in Tolbert Bane and some guy named Blades. enroute to a 60 yard TD. I believe Keith Jackson called it like this. "This is Powell.....POWELL IS GONE!!!!! GOODBYE!!!!! TOUCHDOWN!!!!! I get chills up my back everytime I watch that play, and listen to Keith Jackson's call of it. That play effectively ended any thought of comeback for the Hurricanes. It was the proverbial dagger in the heart. It also announced to the entire NCAA that Tennessee is back!!!! I have never been so proud of a football team, in my life. They were too slow, too small, not deep enough.....you name it. But they were winners. That was the best defense I've ever seen at UT. That was a "TEAM". I'd put that team, and it's heart, against any team I've seen since. Including the NC team.

The 51 yard field goal by Wilhoit to beat UF in front of 109,400 in 2004. That is a moment that will never be surpassed.

I was at that game as a senior, what a memory, the best game I have ever been to as a fan anywhere. God how I long for those days of old to return. I can't wait to be back in the top ten every week beating up on the rest of the SEC and having their fans dread the thought of having to play the orange and white, kind of like how we dread playing UA every year now. I remember back then we didn't go to many of the UA games because we crushed them most of the time. (00-04).

those were the days, i've never heard neyland that loud either. 109,400 screaming and jumping up and down at the same time!! amazing!!!!!
