Although I'm not a Mariners fan, I was a big Martinez fan. I almost said Rob Deer just because those Tigers teams were so fun to watch.

Dude used a 30lb bat and ran like he was hauling 12 more of them to 1B.

Some favorite swings of mine that I don't think have been mentioned:

Eric Davis
Ruben Sierra
Darryl Strawberry
Andre Dawson
Brett Butler (not so much the swing, but the gamesmenship... really interesting player at the plate)

Davis had heat comparable to Sheff. He wasn't quite there, but he was close.

I like the idea of big league players who swing as hard as they can all the time, no matter what the count or situation.

One of my best friends was able to pitch against Strawberry on one of DS's minor league stints. DS still rolled up his sleeves and looked like a giant in the box. Threw him a change a little outside the plate and he flicked it over left centerfield fence with ease.

The plane of his swing was one of a kind and he had neat hitch as the pitcher would deliver the ball. I hated those Mets teams but always secretly enjoyed watching him.

And when my unborn son grows up, he'll be viewing video of Stan the Man's swing. That and he'll be slinging the pill left handed. That right hand will be tied up.

Mine will be a switch-hitting catcher, watching Charles Johnson defensive drills ad nauseum.

My son will be a switch-hitting ambidextrous pitcher/shortstop.

I have a friend that throws baseball left handed, bats right handed and throws football right handed..weird.

Fwiw, when my oldest started feeding himself, I put the spoon in his left hand whenever I was able and when we'd toss the ball, I'd have him use both. His left arm for throwing is strong and I/wife have no lefties in the family.

Mark Grace had a pretty swing

I like the look of Evan Longoria's swing from the right side

Grace was greatly underrated. Could scoop it with the best of them at first. especially considering Dunston was slinging it from short.

A .303/.383/.442 line is pretty good. Not too mention a very good defender. Dude was also a doubles machine.

He was a very good player.

That's how I am. Throw left, bat right, write with my right, punch with my left.

I'm with you with everyone except Ruben Sierra. He's a no go.

How 'bout Julio Franco? '88 All Star game vs. Rob Dibble, Wrigley Field. A great day in baseball.
