Fear the Walking Dead

A lot of forced drama/action in this one... the group waiting on the beach to do battle with walkers instead of easily retreating to the boat.... Chris slipping over the cliff and landing right on crab walker... it was kinda annoying. Plus, they beat us over the head with Chris's zombie guts discovery.

Regarding Strand, they dropped a few not so subtle hints that the boat is not his; he clearly had no idea what was wrong with the boat or even what to do to diagnose the situation. Further, he's always seemed uneasy when piloting the craft... like he's winging it. I'm fully convinced that Strand is a con man and that the house/boat and his persona are all a ruse.

The boat is great for the group for the reasons you listed but it's not good for the entertainment value and that's what counts. If they start making more frequent stops or pulling off some really good water/boat scenes it would help. As for the characters, I don't totally disagree with you as I've mentioned before that as of right now they're simply not as interesting as our TWD characters. As for the characters current demeanor I think you're getting a little deep too quickly. We're still in the early stages of the apocalypse and character development.

Yeah, they're going to have to continue to put into some docks or make it to Strand's place in Mexico which sounds like a boat on land to pep up the show.

This next episode looks like it has potential.
Sneak peek has piqued my interest.
Hopefully this will signal a crescendo to a peak in the action
:hi:

Anyone watch this episode?
Thoughts?

Another good episode I thought. We got our first flashback for character building. Strand punked out, and proceeded to jump into an inflatable rowing raft only to have it deflated where we find out his dumbass can't swim. Someone is going to have to explain to me why Mexico would be blocking the border and where they got the people to form a flotilla. That makes little sense to me honestly. As for the homosexual relationship, Strand simply doesn't fit the mold for a gay guy nor does he give off that vibe.

I agree. Good episode. And strand didn't give is any vibe of being gay. But I like that. Because not all gay guys act or give off the stereotypical vibe we think of. So good job to the writers imo

The gay thing was reminiscent of what the Black Sails writers did. It seemed totally out of character and manufactured for motives that have nothing to do with the internal story line. It nearly sunk Black Sails; I wonder if it will affect the viewership of this show.

I'm not sure how it's "out of character" for him to be gay considering how little we know about him.

As far as losing viewers, doubt it. The only thing making it lose viewers right now is Game of Thrones.

Well what I said is that it "seemed" out of character. In both cases (Black Sails and FTWD) they present a character who is very macho/manly/alpha/etc. and then later add the "surprising" twist that he is gay. I.e., create a character that nobody would ever think is gay and then - gotcha! - he's gay! It just comes across as gimmicky and motivated by reasons that have nothing to do with the internal show story.

You realize that macho/manly/alpha gay men are a thing right? Not all act feminine and girly of whatever. Its not a twist that he's gay. It's not like he was hitting on any women at any point in the show and this was the first time we've seen his back story. So how is it a twist? It's not. Lol

No, I think all gay people, all black people, all white people, in fact all people, fit into precisely-defined stereotypical molds.

Look, I haven't said that the scenario they have presented isn't possible, only that (to me) it seems forced and motivated by ulterior motives. It's not like the TV/movie industry has no history of such shenanigans.

Or maybe they're trying to say your stereotypes aren't always legit. Not all gay men are like you apparently think they are.

Seems like they can't win. If they present a gay character at all, they piss off someone, if they present a gay character and make him/her stereotypically gay, they piss off someone, and if they present a character that isn't stereotypical, they piss off someone.

If this makes fans mad, then those that don't read the comics (and assuming they follow them) are going to be mega-pissed about a character in the main series.

I think the problem is.....you.

Clearly you are partly correct. As I've said, to me the maneuver seems forced.

At the same time, you seem rather annoyed that I feel that way.

Life goes on and nobody cares.

Obviously you do care, or you wouldn't have brought it up.

I'm not even trying to hide that I find your complaints annoying. As I said, the writers can't win, because someone gets offended.

And then someone else gets offended that the first someone was offended. And then the first someone gets re-offended by the second someone being offended. A never ending and escalating cycle of meaningless offenses.

Now you've really offended me. :)

Hollywood goes overboard anymore making sure they have a representative of the "minority o the day". These days it seems to be that the LGBT community is getting the exposure, so we see men kissing men, women kissing women, kids with lesbian moms and gay dads.

I get tired of it, but whatever.

Exactly. We know next to nothing about this guy, so it's hardly a twist. Also as I said, some of these guys who are fans of the main show are in for a surprise if they don't follow the comics.

Since it was brought up a second time I'll respond to the comment. I've met quite a few gay people in my life and I even have a couple friends who are gay. I've YET to meet one gay person who isn't flying the gay flag in some way. Even the gay females I've met are flying the flag. There is always a tell.

Getting back to the story, there is a small chance Strand is merely pretending to be gay to continue working on/with Thomas.

Seemed more like a conman doing what he needed to make the mark comfortable.
He appeared uncomfortable when obligated to kiss Abigail

Regardless of his sexual orientation, he is a conman first and foremost. He is using Abigail.

The raft was a panic move. Only happened when his ammunition was missing.

I find it a tad humorous you guys say Strand doesn't fit the mold as gay, when Colman Domingo is gay in real life.
