Fear the Walking Dead

Well obviously but I meant they thought he was a loon based on staying there. They were acting like leaving on a boat is the most sane thing ever when in reality they have no idea where they are going or it will end up being a good idea.

Haha. I was just playing around. I get what you mean. And I agree. The island was a decent setup for sure.

So forcing his family to commit suicide was a good idea? He kind of was a loon imo. Lol

I think the pills were an all else fails plan only, otherwise they would have already been dead.

As for the island they could have stayed there only if they never wanted to see the yacht again. Strand has an agenda and was leaving so them staying would have meant stranding themselves on the island with no guaranteed way to get off. The other problem is it's a pretty small island so whatever supplies are there would be limited and being on an island gives you no real scavenging footprint. The chance that there was either ample ammunition or even a gun shop on the island was also pretty slim.

The island was probably too good of a spot. What I mean by that is it was going to be pirate bait sooner or later, a group of killers with guns would love to clear out the zombies and humans alike and own that island. Ol dude and his son may have been able to fend off the zombies possibly indefinitely or at least a real long time with their set up, but they weren't stopping armed people.

A smaller, far more secluded island would be easier to defend and avoid bad guys.

The ratings are down so far this season. First episode was a 6.67 and Sunday's episode was a 5.58. Having said that, they're still high compared to everything else, so not really a bad thing, but interesting that the series seems to be embraced by only roughly half the main series' audience.

I've found that I have to check my TWD knowledge at the door when watching Fear. It's unfair to expect any of these characters to be as hardened and badass as Rick, Daryl, and the rest.

Most characters still have varying degrees of their humanity still well intact; this season has wasted no time, however, in showing that humanity dying quickly in some.

I don't think anyone on that island is in the proper state of mind to "just go kill a couple 100 zombies"; it's too early for that. Walkers are still former people to them.

I agree. It's easy to forget how timid most of the characters on TWD were in seasons 1-2 and even a good portion of 3. Remember Rick arguing with Shane for 2-3 episodes about killing the kid they had tied up?

The characters in this show are in a completely different mindset. It's still just a few weeks into the outbreak.

I guess that makes me Shane...

Not cutting my hair like that even if Otis pulls a handful out ... :)
Different than Shane, woulda figured a way to keep Otis alive and get away safely from the school.

The second Rick showed up, woulda let him have Olive Oyl (Lori) back
Started chasing Andrea and Amy :)
Very Shane like ...

That's what I've been saying.

Anyone else notice a difference between the walkers in TWD and FTWD early on? In season 1 of TWD, we saw walkers turning door knobs, climbing fences, or using rocks to break glass. Even running some I think.

In Fear, they're pretty much like the walkers we see now in TWD. Slow and stupid.

I guess this was just a production decision in season 2 of TWD to make the change.

With the door knob you're referring to Morgan's wife in the first season when she allegedly tried to get into the house? I think that was done more out of scare factor than it was sticking with the continuity of what really is a walker. I don't recall them climbing fences or using rocks.

I don't recall the walkers ever running or climbing.v There was the one instance with the door knob that coug mentioned.

For some reason I do see to recall one walker having a rock and breaking a window.

I only remember seeing them break windows with their hands.

First season a walker broke the glass to the building they were all in. That's what caused them to leave in a hurry leaving merle on the roof

I think one conveniently had a rock in its hand already. I don't remember it picking up the rock.

In the same episode, the dead started to climb a ladder after Rick and Glenn. One used a rock to break the glass door to the store they were in and the dead ran after them en route to the truck...more of a fast shamble, but sprinting compared to later seasons...

I remember them grasping at the ladder and maybe grabbing the lower rung but not actually climbing it.

Of course it's been 6 years since I watched it.

If I'm not mistaken the original show runner wanted to stick to the Romero zombie rules slow and lumbering.

Same here... If the Zombies are fast, they win, no fun. Prefer Romero style myself.

I don't mind the fast "zombies" when they are 28 Days Later style, where they aren't really dead just all infected.

Which I know that may get into splitting hairs because technically the WD universe zombies are infected, but if they are supposed to be dead, then be slower.

I'm kinda OK with quick moving zombies IF the body is fresh before rigormortis sets in. Not running like in Zach Snyders Dawn of the Dead (which I did enjoy way back when) but let's say a hastened pace and quicker reflexes.

This episode was pretty good actually. I feel bad for it having to go against GoT. But more episodes like this. Surely the asian chick has to come back into the show somehow though?
