Fear the Walking Dead

Strand is an A1 douche. I get the whole not trusting people but instead of leaving them remotely close to shore he drags them out to sea and cuts the rope. That's super cold hearted ish right there. What were some little Asian chic and dying elephant boy going to do to them? I'm officially done with Strand, he's on my *hit list.

His "acting" bothers me so they can off him at any time

Agreed! I would have shot him, kept the yacht and stayed at the island.

I'd have pushed him off the boat as soon as I saw him walking to the stern with the knife.

He's kind of smart in a way but yet completely stupid. Is being a jackass really a good idea? Doesn't he realizes he's outnumbered if the group decides they've had enough of him. I'm not sure why the group is letting him boss them around to a degree.

Pretty decent episode. Lot of weird cuts trying to make you think characters were hurt.

Chris' screen in the plane wreckage was good. Having to decide and execute a mercy killing for him had to be tough.

Nick's realization that walker guts hides him was a bit much.

I don't really know what to make of Strand right now. He seems douchey but at the same time we as viewers know how this world changes people.

The girl was actually an asset in my opinion. She helped them fight off the sand dune zombies and had skills doing it.

That plane scene wasn't shocking until Chris stopped for a split second and the guys eyes were moving around as he was still alive. I wonder if that will be similar to how they play out the Negan killing?

Shocking isn't how I would describe it either but we have to remember these aren't hardened veterans like on TWD. Chris is still just 19ish year old kid who had to make a tough choice on his own. It's one thing to take some frustration out on some walkers behind a fence. It another to look a living person in the eye and then smash their head in.

I was surprised that the El Salvador dude didn't step in. She saved his life completely and he essentially turned his back on her. I kinda liked Daniel's character, but that was not admirable in the least.

This show is so dorky so far. "Let's all stand around and let zombies surround us and we can fight them off with a piece of seaweed." There are better ways to introduce drama than to make your characters so stupid and dorky.

It was the best episode so far this season IMO, but I did find the part where they kind of stood there and the walkers were coming towards them was kind of silly looking. There was no reason for them to stop right there like that other than for dramatic effect for the scene. I know they didn't know where Nick was, but lumping up and stopping right there didn't seem like the best idea.

My guess is the numbers drop for this show since GOT starts at the same time

And they did. A 4.73. While that's still good for a cable show, it's almost a million drop from the previous week, almost 2 million off from Episode 1, and by far the lowest rated episode of the series.

The next 9 weeks are going to be tough on this show ratings wise methinks.

I like it so far but not as much as TWD when it came out.

It's nice to see people talk to each other normally in Fear as opposed to the TWD where the writers try to make almost every conversation between characters a super emotional or dramatic sequence. That gets old.

As far as ratings go I'd think there may be some burnout with fans. What it will come down to is they have two zombie survival shows. Will they have enough good writing and story to keep FWD interesting since they're already wearing out the zombie genre.

I do think overall the acting is better on FTWD than TWD.

If I had to choose one thing that's really hurting this show, it's actually the boat.

Get these people off the boat and back onto land sooner rather than later. I think the two most interesting episodes so far have been the one on the island and the plane wreck in the sand dunes.

I wondered about over saturation when the show was announced.

Also this season picked up right after TWD season ended. And considering they way it ended I could see a lot of fans taking their frustration out on Fear.

And yeah, going up against GoT doesn't help.

It's already been picked up for a third season though. If the rating drop by half again we may see this story have and end point by season 4.

I kind of like the boat. It is the one place that as long as you have fuel you can still have all the creature comforts such as water, electricity and HVAC as long as you have a good mechanic. So for me the setting is good. It is the writing that sucks. So far how do they portray men? Either as drug addicts, weaklings, indecisive or psychos. How do they portray women? Level headed, strong, insightful, judicious, heroes. They're even headed that way on TWD now. Typical Hollywood.

Um, the daughter is an idiot, the old man's daughter is useless, and I wouldn't call the mom level headed. It's clear they are showing her as someone who is letting some emotion lead her.

Travis is the one getting his hands dirty and actually fixing things, the old man is right to not fully trust Strand, Nick had proven to be useful because of his knowledge of drugs, and Strand is cold but also not driven by emotion and while tough, someone has to be that guy. The teenage son is an emo annoyance.

Seems like you're taking this way too seriously and looking to be offended.

Not really offended. I wouldn't get offended by a TV show. Really I'm pretty hard to offend. Travis is a wimp. I can't stand him. I mean who is the "Rick." You're right he can fix things but this is the typical Tool Time view of men. "Just give me a wrench and duct tape and let me at it." Also, they're all idiots according to the writers. However, the women so far are the strong ones. Even the one on the raft.

Want an example of good TV writing? Breaking Bad.

LOL, sure you are hard to offend, that's why you've spent 2 posts whining about how men are portrayed on the show, and you've completely ignored most of the points I made. And the woman on the raft is the "strong one" because the dude she's with is about dead.

I just don't like wasting my time on poorly written shows. I like TWD for the most part as most of the episodes are written pretty well. I muddle through the poorly written ones. But, I haven't seen one well written FTWD episode yet. What insight has this show given you so far about the plague? You're not very observant are you?

Considering how you described the characterization of the men and women on the show, I'm a hell of a lot more observant than you are.

The boat is great for the group for the reasons you listed but it's not good for the entertainment value and that's what counts. If they start making more frequent stops or pulling off some really good water/boat scenes it would help. As for the characters, I don't totally disagree with you as I've mentioned before that as of right now they're simply not as interesting as our TWD characters. As for the characters current demeanor I think you're getting a little deep too quickly. We're still in the early stages of the apocalypse and character development.
